Love your channel! Yesterday I negotiated a deal on the new 2020 XC- W 300 tpi. So, now we have the 2018 EXC500 F, 2008 KTM XC200, and bringing home the new XC W 300 end of the month. I traded in a '17 HD FLHXS. Feels great to have choices, and a wife that rides too! Thank you for your help/opinion and helpful maintenance videos!

i like the fact that it drips onto the exhuast. i actually route all my bikes that way so i know while riding if it gets hot and i can save it...

I live in courtenay on Vancouver island where we can ride 365 days a year. It kind of drives me crazy that everyone thinks we all live in a frozen wasteland but at the same time I don’t mind because I want to keep it all to myself. I’d love to come and see some of that beautiful area where you live.

Quick question please on the 525 RFS cylinder head, with titanium valves do you just slide them in and just fit the collets or is there more to it ?

Depends on the fit. If you install and they don’t leak you can just run them (but you need to be sure the seats are good. If the seats are rough at all you need to re cut them.

I rode my 450 in a super dusty environment. I had like 4 filters. Every ride. Clean once a month. I was amazed when my wife started riding her 125. Her filters never looked dirty. That 450 huffs the air for sure! Still I can see a difference between my wife's 200 and my 300. My filter is always more caked with junk than hers. Also, I found that when you put that bolt back in clean off all the old loctite out of the shaft and off the bolt. It wades up in the bottom and does not put the proper pressure on the dome washer. I had to figure that out the hard way with a new kit and it was still leaking, but the kit I had didn't come with the washer. Actually I found that my 450 and my wife's 125 used the same seal kit. I have one in the garage..... they are pretty cheap. IF I not mistaken my 300 has the same set up as well. Just no dome washer. Only a clip. Same o-ring and spacer. I call the overflow on the KTM the idiot light... .a face full of steam lets you know your overheating!

Morgan how do you like the cheap pre oiled filters? Would be beneficial for those who are dirtbike cleanliness challenged. I prefer my twin air!

I think those are great for traveling to have in your tool box in case you need to swap fast. But the good ones last so much longer and end up being cheaper down the road.

The question is grease or anti-seize on the axle. Either way you should slather it!

why not clean first? Heat Shrink would have been super sano. No torque wrench for the CS? Guess it isn't necessary?

If you meant clean the bike, it’s because it was cold out and didn’t want to freeze when I started on it. Heat shrink would have been good but I want to be able to get back in there easier if I need to replace that switch and the shrink we use has a glue that really seals it. And no torque wrench in CS is needed. That cupped washer and loctite will keep it on there. And it’s a big steel bolt in a steel shaft so it’s pretty hard to break it.

@@highlandcycles No, just meant around the CS before removal and all. Always thought it was a cardinal sin to work on a dirty bike or at least the specific area. Regarding the torque, I hear ya and always thought that may be the case, but scare mongers make you think otherwise, I don't always torque everything either. Lastly, I hear ya on the heat shrink, was mainly a thought that I had as everything that can look factory with me usually does, but maybe that is why it takes me longer to do things or often just a waste. What I like however is that what you show is things getting done and working, almost like a normal Joe.

Aoki Gahara for sure. I would normally have blasted the CS area with the pressure washer but like I said, it’s winter darn it. But I got it super clean where it needed to be before I went back together. And on the heat shrink, for sure on the OEM look but I like to be able to un plug parts that can easily be replaced and fail or break pretty often. I always heat shrink connections that I solder together for the long haul. And thanks for watching. I’m trying to keep this channel for the normal person so that people will actually do the work to keep their machines rolling.

Aoki Gahara oh and since I was changing the oil AFTER the CS seal it is way less important to keep it super clean and sano. Any little micro stuff that got in will be changed out.
