The issue is the time was passing. If the immortals were real, that will be the time of the gathering , after that computers and universal surveillance make it totally unviable. It could be a prequel on the other hand, but then changing Times could easily make the series simple video game format fail.

Methos is the type of personality that would last thousand's of years. He never gets too attached to anything/anyone, is constantly learning, isn't obsessed with heroics like Macleod is, is incredibly adaptive, and knows when he can't win. Duncan was a warrior, Methos was a killer. THE killer, really. An executioner. Death on a Horse. The Pale Rider.
@deaddudegaming2 ай бұрын
I don't agree with this. There no way in times Methos lived in and they kind of man he was then he wasn't a warrior. I think Methos never really ever showed Duncan what he was truly capable of. Everything with him was about tactics and strategy. I think a big part of why he doesn't come off as warrior is because he was just trying to survive and lost his reason to be a fighter like Duncan. It would have been awesome if they had done a show about Methos. Man the stories they could have done.
@robertphillips2132 ай бұрын
@@deaddudegaming Warrior as in honoring their enemies, seeking to gain glory and improvement through a militant path in life where non-combatants are never to be targets nor ate the allowed to be targeted, and all indulgence in the spoils of war are forbidden, save 98% tax on any gold/silver/spices claimed in enemy territory so a fighter is compensated yet not rewarded or made more prosperous in any way. The perfect good guy knightly hero of our unfailingly ethical modern times that people seem to somehow believe had actually existed in a significant number among the ranks of knights during the dark/medieval/mid-middle ages. The PG version of modern interpretation. Methos did not apply fair play, mercy, compassion, or show any respect during combat. He is clever and calculating with the world divided into enemies and amusements where genocide was his bread and butter. It was Methos vs the World with Methos winning that conflict between them by maintaining a slow, steady pacing during His Ride during the Bronze Age. He had no respect for enemies, no matter how wise or kind: they died to him or to his brothers, serving as a more challenging type of sport to the Horsemen with sieges, sackings, and the overall annihilation of larger population centers being their holiday vacations. He respects Duncan as a personal friend, respected Rebecca and Darius for their self-discipline and choices at odds with their nature as people. Death is far too easy in Methos' mind for him to feel impressed or respectful of another Immortal because they are good at killing or fighting. I think he respects those that choose their own path, holding to their family and/or their principals over their own life/wants/desires but never cease learning, loving, suffering, and growing to become more. He is practical at heart, the ever adaptable and cunning survivor, but if you were not previously a dear friend, then expect no mercy, no limits, and no empathy from Death on a Horse, just a very sick sense of irony and dry wit.

It kind of depends. The show was always a little vague and inconsistent on the concept of “power” in the Immortals. In the first season or two, age pretty much guaranteed the victor, with Duncan barely beating a few of his older opponents. As the series moved on, the power of a handful of quickening’s was also implied to be a big deal. Other examples has quickening’s from newborn immortals as being a coveted and valuable resource when the absence of their own power should have really minimized the effect. As the series progressed, skill and training was made to be as much a factor as overall power. Duncan fought on equal terms with the 4 horseman, (not counting methos). After the death of Tess, Duncan was portrayed as someone who was training nonstop and fighting a virtual gauntlet. The implication being that this state of non stop combat and focus combined with his skill is what allowed him to compete against the older immortals.
@bensonen6855 Жыл бұрын
I always felt that the Methos we meet is very out of practice and usually very low on motivation and aggression so it's hard to k wo how good he'd really be. It's what makes him interesting that when you see him fight and actually in the zone he's lethal and can win very quickly. When he fights Kalas he admits he hasn't fought in a long time and spends their duel retreating the whole time

You're not accounting for the Quickening. Every person Duncan kills, transfers is power to him. Including the power of those that person killed, and the power of those they killed. One person who is 500 years old that kills five other people that are 500 years old each. That's 2500 years worth of practice, skill and knowledge gained. A combined 3000 years. People like to point out how old various characters are. But their combined age from quickening can greatly change their "age". Afaik Mythos is only 5000, and Duncan could be 30000 by comparison.
@robertphillips213 Жыл бұрын
@@Gofex1337 You are assuming Methos hasn't killed other Immortals. In truth, Methos was incredibly deadly with unmatched experience who has litterally evolved with swordsmanship. He just liked to pretend he wasn't quite as dangerous as he really was so that Duncan wouldn't feel threatened by him. It's hard to be friends with someone you fear and Methos wanted Duncan as his friend. Otherwise the knowledge that Methos could kill Duncan at any time, any place whenever it was convenient for him would always haunt the younger Immortal. So he could never come close to Duncan or to Kronos, how did he last so long? He obviously was more than enough for a few small timers, though.

He's cunning and was one of the watcher, meaning he knew which immortal lives where and can easlily avoid them.
@proximashining7763 жыл бұрын
Because his favorite technique was to avoid the fights altogether and when someone challenged him, he would simply leave, as he did with Morgan Walker. When he absolutely had to fight against a skilled opponent, he would cheat with an extra weapon if necessary and use any dirty trick he could come up with.

Duncan says to Methos after they killed the horsemen that Methos could have killed Kronos and asked him why he did not. Methos said he was his brother and he could not be his judge. Methos was very very good.

It's a short sword technique usually for close quarter fight in tight spaces popularized by the Zatoichi blind swordsman movies.

I was a bit annoyed with the character of Kalas. While he was a good villain, his fencing form was terrible. I mean who hunches over when they are fighting with a sword? I suspect he had vision issues, so he did that to avoid accidentally getting hit.
@kimrogers48652 жыл бұрын
Smaller targets are harder to kill or inflict damage. That's why he twisted his body up.
@glenisterm2 жыл бұрын
I have taken fencing. You turn your body sideways to reduce your target area. Hunching over exposes your back and neck, and reduces your mobility.

Him dying happened in the series finale, which was a take on "It's a wonderful life". Duncan got to see what his friends looked like if he was never born, and that's where he killed Methos. Didn't actually happen in the main timeline, so Methos didn't die until that abomination known as "Highlander: The Source". If you haven't seen the two final episodes of the show, you REALLY need to . One of the best series finales of all time.

That would kind of ruin the point of methos though. His skills lie more in being clever and deceitful as opposed to extremely skillful with a sword. He’s the Loki to Duncan’s Thor.

I still can't believe that he sacrificed himself for Duncan in Highlander the source so Duncan can go and kill the guardian and save Kate . Even when they lost their immortality before his sacrifice Methos even told Duncan you always stayed true to who you immortal or not that's why you are the one it was always you:( We don't know the closer you are to the source the more you lose your immortality When I first watched Highlander The Source when Duncan defeated the guardian I was saying to myself that's for Dawson you bastard

Kronos is comical. He's a great example of show don't tell, except they told and forgot to show. He was extremely underwhelming as a character. Grayson, Horton, Kalas and Xavier are all over him by leagues, not to mention other throwaway villains of the week. Yes, the actor could wield a sword, but the character was absurd.
