In this video, we will review the beautiful Highlands Hammock State Park just 4 miles west of Sebring Florida. The park has a rich history as a park since 1931, two years before the Florida State Park system was established. Highlands Hammock State Park contains 9,000-acres featuring 15 distinct natural communities, including some of the more interesting and varied hiking of any Florida State Park we’ve visited.

This is a brilliant review. Especially liked the comment on the road from the west. Knowing that the sites and roads are close and narrow has made us decide it would be easier not to take our cargo trailer.

Spot on about the line at the dump station. We left on a Sunday (probably the worse time) and had to wait almost an hour to use the dump station. Even with that, I really enjoyed our time there and even though the sites were a little closer together than I would prefer, thankfully we camped near very nice neighbors. Also, a lot of the sites are pull through (we had one).

Stayed there Memorial Weekend 2021; 15 mins after camp set up we saw a bear closer to the entrance which is a rare sight here in Florida.

I liked your review. I would like to respond with the camp ground is old and does need to be updated. This campground is the same campground that was designed back in the 1950's. Please complain to Tallahassee and the Florida State Park System about the updates that need to be made. This is the responsibility of of them and not the individual park. This park has wanted to update for years for Tallahassee won't give or appropriate the monies for this project. The only way that the campground will get updated is if people complain to Tallahassee. Thank you

Vicki thanks for the comment. If anyone knows who to email a link to this video to in the Park system feel free. The amazing natural beauty of this park should be accompanied by an equally upgraded campground. Thanks again for commenting!

Yeah, I didn't care for the campground either. There are a few older ones, O'Leno State Park comes to mind, that must have been built without privacy being regarded. Thanks!

@@JohnMarucci Koreshan State park next to Fort Myers I camped at every year. Koreshan was designed with a lot of buffer between campsites. To bad it most likely won't open anytime soon because of hurricane Ian
