So funny, you were literally parked outside our old house at the end when you got the pizza in Crossmolina. I recognised the Thatch pub where he had the Guinness and of course where you were parked up. Wonderful part of the world.

Love the trip! In a twist of things, a travel tip (if you're interested) - to mitigate on the laundry issue while traveling, get yourself a Scrubba bag. This little $50 bag, that folds down to nothing, is a great washing machine on the go! AND as a side benefit (once you dry it out), it makes a great compression bag for packing keeping your gear in while on the move, saving time AND space. I've used mine for conferences for work, trips bringing just a backpack or my carry on bag. I take mine everywhere. And I'm not sponsored by Scrubba, so this is a complete, uncompensated opinion from someone who like clean laundry! Just food for thought. Safe travel!! :)

Hari OM Yeah, there's often an autumn calving too... particularly for beef cattle; dairy herds are in a continuous roll of calf/dry/calf/dry... My granny used to swear by seaweed baths. I don't think they are particularly Irish, but clearly that is one of the few places left with that Victorian vibe - and it looked proper rejuvenating!!! Scary about that oven though. Time to do the compost toilet and go all electric, kiddos!!! YAM xx

Majority of calves are born in the spring, for some reason I have 75% in my head. But dairy cows are impregnated 3 months after they give birth to ensure near continuous milk supply. Cows cycles is I think about 21 days so they can be bred mated pretty much anytime of year. The scenery looks amazing, itching to visit northern Ireland again. I didn't get the opportunity to see much when I went before.
@highlands2hammocks2 жыл бұрын

Those weren’t dairy cattle but you can have caves any time of year. Most people try not to have them much later than midsummer because they do better in the winter if they’re a few months older when the temperatures drop.

Ahhh congrats on conquering the mighty Nephin Hill! Awesome job guys! I'm now convinced that no munroe , hill, mountain whatever is a match for you! Yeah I like your second story behind it 🤣 OMG sorry for the oven mishap. Not long ago I was heating up a pouch of rice in the microwave..and I heard a rather disturbing POP. Ruh roh. Scared the bejeebers out of me. Turned out the bag exploded..courtesy of yours truly forgetting to tear open a notch in the top (clearly in the instructions), so it can vent. I did salvage most of the rice anyway. LOL Haha that seaweed bath...I was thinking the same thing, where's the magician? 😆

I'm not a farmer but I'm a Tom Pemberton subscriber so I must therefore be a farming expert. He has calves all year round because a cow needs to have a calf before it produces milk. The cows then dry off before getting into calf again. All year round means there's always cows producing. Maybe there will be a real farm expert in the comments shortly to correct me.
@highlands2hammocks2 жыл бұрын
Ah that would make sense actually! Thanks Graeme!
@Dreyno2 жыл бұрын
Those cattle were Aberdeen Angus cattle and wouldn’t be used for milk. They produce milk, obviously, but not in the quantities preferred by dairy farmers. But you don’t have complete control over when a cow will conceive so you can have them all year round. But most people will try not to time it too late in the year because young calves and lambs survive better if they’re at least a few months old when the winter hits.
