HIGHLIGHTS: 2018 TRC Rd1: South Africa v Argentina
Line-out troubles and misses from the tee in the first half had South Africa on the back foot but the home team turned it around defeating Argentina 34-21 in the second game of The Rugby Championship.

De klerk is an awesome halfback definitely one of the best in the game. Enjoy watching him play. Hes getting a lot better with the decisions he makes on the field. Im a Kiwi myself and an AB supporter but gotta give love to South Africa my 2nd favourite team in the world.

As an Argentinian. I think its fair to thank SARU for their countinuos support throughout the years in the development of Argentinian rugby. They've always been the ones pushing along us for the inclusión of Argentinian teams un every competition. So, a very big hug and a very big thank you to the Boks and their fans!

He's outstanding. Him and Am, those guys have what 2 or 3 caps each, yet they play like old pros. Springboks wings are in good shape with Aphiwe, Mapimpi, Mvovo, Nkosi. And then there's Madosh Tambwe still waiting in the wings.

David Ball... We also have Bellends like this fella David here. Forgetting that 4 those tries were scored by these political appointees. Name one person of colour in the starting 15 that had a shit game... I'll wait racist imbecile... You forget that quota appointment called Pollard wasted at least 10-15pts with his kicking. Then again... Blame these Try scoring blacks...! What an idiot.

Lukhanyo Ntuthu while I think it's fair to say that in the past there were players on the Springbok team that were not exactly up to par, and were probably there more because of the quota than merit..... I certainly don't think that's the case anymore. In fact I think that South African rugby is now reaping the benefits from many years of putting money into developing the game amongst the back population and identifying young black talent at an early stage and developing them through the system. I think that was always going to happen naturally. If the talent net is cast wider amongst the larger population it was only ever going to be a matter of time until some great black players would emerge. And imho we are finally seeing that.

Lukhanyo Ntuthu Exactly people say it's a quota team but cannot name 1 quota player. In fact it's those "quota" players that playing the best. I don't agree with quotas, I just don't agree they were the problem with SA rugby problems.

The score at half time was flattering to the Pumas. If it wasn't for Pollard's exceptionally poor kicking and Willemse's terrible giveaway, it would have been quite the rout in the end. The Springboks have things to work on, though. They need to protect the ruck out wide, they coughed up the ball a couple of time. Lineouts should also be better. And Handre should quickly forget about the ugly game he's had on the boot. Marx, Etzebeth, PSdT, Faf, Dyantyi and Willie all had an outstanding game. All forward subs were good. I don't understand why Orie wasn't given the last 10 minutes, as Eben clearly had enough of it by the end. Papier did not have a chance to leave much of a mark on the game, and Willemse's main highlight was his terrible giveaway. Hope he does better next time.

Sumo, I congratulate you to the victory of the Boks. I hope that South Africa will be at the top in this championship (and maybe win against the ABs). As far as the Pumas are concerned, they are getting better and better with Ledesma as coach and if the "Europeans" are allowed to play too (next year perhaps) everything will be much more exciting. In 10 years the Pumas will be top 3. Remember my words. Cheers mate.
@JTM1809

Der blinde Sánchez Thanks mate, you're always classy. Before the match, I was concerned and expected a much improved Pumas side compared to the June tests. That happened. Luckily, the Springboks took a full advantage of the set piece, especially ruck and scrum. They were also pretty disciplined in the defence, which was necessary, because Sanchez looked like he was going to slot every kick in today, much unlike Handre. I think the Pumas were pretty good in chaining phases together, especially in the 2nd half, at times they were getting clinical with ruck, retain, run, ruck, etc. They weren't as sound defensively as I would expect them. I would also expect a bit more from some of the big names: Creevy, Petti, Delguy, Matera, Boffelli. I think Landajo brought a lot of energy when he went on. Springboks won on combination of set piece and utilizing their speedy wings in a wide, fast transitioning game, of which Faf, Handre and Willie were key components. I like Ledesma. Just watched the presser and he seems to be like a sharp, no BS guy. He can take the Pumas places, I think. I mean the amount of talent on that team is pretty impressive. The job is instilling discipline and execution. I'm looking forward to seeing Facundo Isa in the national team again. That's a player I always enjoyed watching. And it would be great if Argentina could become #3. It would be an incredible boost for rugby in Latin America. Right now the gap behind Argentina there is absolutely comical (much like the gap behind the Springboks in Africa). I hope the Springboks can win next week again, but it will be even harder with the Pumas playing at home.
@derblindesanchez7250
@derblindesanchez7250 6 жыл бұрын
There are many players in Europe who would make the Pumas even more competitive: Isa, Pato Fernández Fiant (an excellent fly-half, and in my opinion better than Sánchez), Urdapilleta, Ramiro Herrera, Bosch, Kodela. There is an excellent young forward in England (I forgot the name), maybe Noguera Paz and Gigena too. Imhoff must play, and I like the two players from rugby seven Bazán Vélez and Osadczuk. Bazán Vélez is better than Bertranou and Landajo. They let him play at Seven, so he stays in Argentina. With these players, the Pumas are guaranteed top 5 (if they have enough time to play together before the World Cup). Let's see, I'm curious. What I've heard from Ledesma and Quesada (Jaguares) is promising.

Sumo Rugby - Pollard's kicking was pathetic, but also don't forget that the Boks had around 5 or 6 lineouts 5M out in the 1st half alone and messed them up every time. If they would have at least secured the ball, I reckon it would have been an 8 or 9 try score.
@JTM1809
@JTM1809 6 жыл бұрын
Hand Solo Handre had an exceptionally poor game on the boot. And it was not only the lineouts. At least twice AFAIR the Springboks were within 10m or 5m of the Pumas goal line, but knocked the ball on or made a forward pass. Twice they were within 10m of the Pumas goal line and committed an obstruction. One of those times it was Lukhanyo and Andre, which is incredible, considering those guys play together all the time. I don't know if this is a lack of communication, or over-eagerness, but it needs to be ironed out. The ABs and Wallabies will not give out so many opportunities and the Springboks need to capitalize on them. So, yeah, I agree, 8,9 tries were definitely on the table for the taking. The Pumas did not have many chances, but they were much more clinical in their execution, once they got into the Bok 22.

Its like the working folk are being chased off so theres less folk to buy tickets.. Im seeing a girl atm who moved here at the start of the year from S. nice win, but some pretty amateur mistakes need addressing like the rucking at 1:38, Whiteley shouldve stopped the ball with his foot, and at 4:29, no.1 Williemse pass was horrible, and Van Staden should have the presence of mind to tap the ball to the back n realized he's not gonna get it ... also Marx needs to fix the lineouts ... these mistakes can kill us against both Aussie n NZ .. Yeah, Handre had a singularly awful game on the boot. It was 2/7, but still. Awful as hell. His playmaking was there, but he left way too many points on the field. He's there to slot them.
@gibean
@gibean 6 жыл бұрын
problem with Handre is he is unnecessarily physical at times with his game play ... taking on with the ball almost all the time .... always have been since his youth days .. yes its good for overall attack phase .. but when it comes to kicking, you tend to be depleted ... need to find other kickers for angled spots but theres just arent any .... you cant replace the other backs with kickers bcoz you'd be giving up the physical runners ...therefore lies the conundrum of the boks ... this generation would suffer a trophyless feat unless we can find a super fullback dat can be a kicker .... as reliable as old Willie is, he may not be able to have the best kicks
@JTM1809
@JTM1809 6 жыл бұрын
Willie is more of a tactical kicker, than a place kicker. I agree there. Handre is normally a pretty good kicker, and he can slot them even from far away, but you're right that he plays too aggressively with the ball. It's the inside centre half of him, that makes him do that. He also tackles pretty aggressively. Which is good for the gameplay, but not when penalties/conversions come. The problem is, Rob du Preez is the same. He's perhaps an even better place kicker, but he tends to play an aggressively ball carrying game as well. The same Damian. The only one who doesn't really do that is Elton, but then again Elton is never able to place kick in the Boks jersey as he can in the Lions jersey (which is another clue, that supports my theory, that his Boks underperformance is of psychological nature, because when you kick a penalty, it's just you, there's no tackle coming etc.). The Springboks would need someone like the Welsh Leigh Halfpenny. He's a great full back, and he's the world's best place kicker on top of that. When he plays, Gatland doesn't need to start Biggar at 10 (the best kicker of the Welsh fly-halves) and can play Patchell, who is more offensively creative and loves to carry the ball like Handre/Rob/Damian do. This was easier back in the day when Johan Goosen played full back.

Pretty pedestrian stuff from both sides. Nice urgency from SA at the breakdown and ruck though. Cover defense from Argentina was seriously crap. I guess that's to do with fitness. They looked shattered. If they play like this the Argentinians will get hammered in NZ. Smith and Perenara are even faster and more elusive than de Klerk. Sth Africa, hmmmmmmm, they do look quite capable out wide. I think they'll take NZ close again in South Africa, but it'll be something of a tanning when back over here.

Why shouldn't he be? He's been playing for 3 or 4 seasons, was the top try scorer in Super Rugby 2017 iirc, top try scorer in pro14 2017, came back to SR 2018 and has been playing well when selected (the Sharks bought all the wings in SA before the 2018 season). He's massively improved his defence as seen today and his aerial skills and that was his biggest weak point. Mapimpi is a classy player, don't listen to people saying he was just selected because of his skin colour

Roronoa Zoro Are there any players of colour that don't deserve to be there right now. Did we not forget when the team was 90% white. They were still shit, problem for SA rugby for years was poor coaching structures in provincial level and outdated rugby. Using quotas as a Scape goat for everything makes you look like an ignorant fool who is one dimensional in thinking.

Roronoa Zoro It's funny you say that because that was in 2009. Between 2010-2015 the team was 90% white and couldn't beat All blacks now some bead coaching and we end up 5th and u say quotas. Did we forget about Rudolf Strauli, no quotas and took SA down the drain. Stop thinking in black and white.

The long therm effects of the quota system will cause South African rugby to die within 10 years. We are currently experiencing the early stages. Most of our talented rugby players have already left South Africa to play for other countries. France is already "buying" white South African schoolboys to play in france. This is very common in South Africa. Our talent is leaving, what a shame

The comment is related to the situation in South Africa where more than 24000 people are murdered each year. Yet we as the world turn a blind eye to what is going on. When apartheid was in effect, we protested by boycotting the rugby.....

Only two teams really up to scratch at the moment - Ireland and New Zealand. New Zealand are miles ahead of course. Anyone who says NH teams are useless has not bothered to watch Six Nations, European Cup or any of these teams tours - they are well ahead of;: Argentina, Australia and South Africa currently. Only South Africa can get their act together in time for the next WC out of those 3.

Despite the victory very dissapointed in the game. Faf de klerk best SA scrummie after Joost the others bunch of wankers,. Look at Faf very fast in everythnig he does compared to the others holding meetings behind the rugg or set scrum and announcing to the entire world which way he going. That second try for Agintina should have never ever happened. No 8 Boks should have picked up either pass or drive further. No vision.

While I agree someone needed to be there, I disagree that it was Warrens fault. If you rewatch that try, Warren was helping the effort to duck over and protect the ball, only there was no one to collect it.
