Thank you for this tutorial ! I watched it over and over again, because it is so important to get better paintings, but not always easy to do .

Brilliant! Thank you! My goodness that sky is so beautiful and so real! As is the entire rest of your finished painting of Petworth and those fabulous trees and deer. Another fantastic video, thank you so much for the generous sharing of your knowledge 👏😀

For me, the tree is the star of this painting. I can't tear my eyes from it. The skill and effort are obvious throughout, but the tree is mesmerizing and unique. Thank you for sharing.

@@oliverpyle-ourlandscape4442 please do a demonstration or a tutorial on that! I'd really like to know how to achieve this detailed look of naked branches, but most of the tutorials focus on simplifying the tree crowns, which is much easier.

Thank you so much! I've been trying to solve exactly this problem in a painting, to the point where I've done more than 10 versions of it trying to figure out how to get a lighter value building shape against a brighter sky, without a messy nasty edge that calls attention to itself. In my composition that part is actually the focal point so I really can't afford for it to look messy. I even gave up and tried a loose style where I didn't care so much about getting such a crisp edge between the sunlit dome and the sky, but it just didn't feel like I was describing my subject with the care and love that it deserved. This tip solved my issue perfectly!

Thank you Oliver. Once again you seem to have provided the answer to a constant problem of mine, with both the chimneys and the tree branches. I've always used masking fluid and then been unhappy that I don't get a nice edge once its removed and I often disturb the paint trying to get the edges to come together. It never looks sharp or fresh to me after I've dabbed in and such. So seeing how you simplify it this way, is a real help. Thank you so much.

You're welcome Patricia - some people find masking fluid really helpful, but I've just never been able to get on board with it.

Wondering if you filmed whilst painting the full sized? I appreciate the time it takes to film, edit and voice over but this painting has so much to learn from it would be absolutely fantastic to see you paint it, along with your very articulate and well thought out commentary.

Hello Oliver; I left a comment on part one about my fear of painting trees; so yes please do a tutorial on painting trees, for I have a hatred and fear of drawing and painting them. I absolutely adored your value sketch, and your tips are great too. But although your finished piece was well executed, it was too precise and real for my taste. I like suggestive impressionistic watercolours which leave some bits to the viewers' imaginations. Nonetheless, very well done.
