Thank you for all the tutorials you've done! There was hardly anything beside swatching videos on KZbin before you started.

Thank you, I must admit I was frustrated not to find much either, to justify all the nice sets of watercolor pencils being sold out there.

That has definitely been my experience too! You have by far the most comprehensive and helpful watercolor pencil videos. So many others are just artists swatching them out for the first time, which is fine for them to do, of course, but we don’t really learn much about really using them from those videos.

I love the flexibility of watercolor pencils, and that you've shown so many ways to use them. Like any other media, they take practice and getting to know them. I've used them in the Strathmore MultiMedia Sketchbook when traveling and they are so convenient, especially for plein air.

Hi Paula, I've been looking at this Strathmore sketchbook for years, it seems you enjoy it. Maybe I'll get to try it sometime 🙂

@@paintingandchocolate I love the soft cover 500 series. In fact, I did your autumn leaf watercolor pencil tutorial in it, and it turned out beautifully.

Love my pencils and I learned all about them by watching your channel. I’ve watched other artists use them also, but really… they have no clue!!! Thank you for your clear and concise instructions. As an oil artist (painter) this whole concept of water was foreign and frustrating… until I binge watched your videos.

Thank you for championing WCP's! I have full sets of a few major brands and used them for years, although not so much now. But yes, you can definitely do full, complex paintings with them, and I have done. Two tips that might be helpful for your viewers: 1. To save money, a cheap small white plastic cutting board from the dollar store is textured just like the more expensive brand WCP palette and works just fine and is great for a travel kit, and 2. To avoid weakening the wood collar (where the "lead" comes out) by getting it wet, I put a clear drop of water on my plastic palette or even a junk credit card and quickly dip the color "lead" into that drop of water, which will soften the pigment without risking getting the collar wet. A single drop of water will last a long time.

This was perfect for me. I am more used to coloured pencils and frustrated with the mess I get into with watercolour. I have a lovely set of watercolour pencils and you have inspired me to try again. The added bonus is I travel a lot in a small campervan so the pencils would be so much more practical than paint tubes or pans. Thank you so much ❤

The thing that I don’t like is when you see the lines where you’ve colored when you apply the water. I’ve learned to not use too much pressure and color in small circles and add more layers to get darker colors.

For anyone reading this with the same problem: the quality of watercolor pencil also plays a role! I have a set of cheap watercolor pencils where the lines are very visible. With Faber Castell's Albrecht Dürer I have no such problems. Just an additional tip to what you wrote.

Love them. Ever since trying them months ago, I've barely touched regular watercolours. So much more accurate, and then like you say, less water, one container of water, less mess, I use a brush to activate them. I've used them in locations where they'd never allow regular watercolour. I tried an experiment the other day, I coloured the "painting", and then used a spray bottle and misted it, everything popped instantly.

Thank you - I love that you champion watercolour pencils! I love them, I use Caran d'ache Museums with a few Inktense for landscapes to get the earthy greens. I first learnt about them as a coloured pencil background, but they were so lovely have gradually built up my collection. I do loads more watercolour now than coloured pencil, and WC pencils are much in use for small areas. I have yet to embark on an entire piece with them. I love this one you have done. 🥰

I love water soluble pencils. So many ways to use them. My favorite surface is a watercolor canvas panel. The slightly rougher and less absorbant surface forces a more imprssionistic look (which I like) and the panel never buckles.

Actually, I got a small set for my birthday a few years ago, when I didn't know that the there was such a thing. So, I started with pencils and recently bought a cheap set of tube water colors. I really like the definition they add to using a brush.

I have a large set of Faber Castell watercolour pencils and that palette you use in the video. Is there a difference between brands of watercolour pencils?
@paintingandchocolate
@paintingandchocolate 5 күн бұрын
To use the palette no. But in general yes as cheaper types of WC will feel more dry, break more easily, be less pigmented.
