The biggest problem NZ have is a lack of really competitive regular opposition beyond the Aussies. They're getting time on the ball and gaps and space on the outside that just won't be there against England & France.

They do look amazing. I know they’re playing Japan but the black ferns look well drilled. Passes sticking, good decisions. Very Wayne Smith esk.

Great performance by our girls! But you have to be impressed by how the Japanese ladies didn’t give up! Played hard until the end! Can only be proud of the heart they showed!

Great skills, brilliant passing and offloading, and the vision and awareness of team mates close by, is something to behold in this team. Japan did not give up but the Black Ferns were on song here. Really looking forward to the quality of games we have coming up soon.

A training run pretty much for the Ferns compared to the wahine maori themselves in Fiji yet still a win-win scenario for NZ, Japan, and the Fijiana respectively in world cup warm-up preparations.
Robin Ай бұрын
I can't wait to see the action on Opening day. I hope Fijiana can compete enough with England in the line outs and scrums to win enough ball and unleash their crazy running game. South Africa is a team to watch out for also. There's a highlight clip on KZbin of their midfielder, Aphiwe Ngwevu vs Japan this year.... an absolute rampaging beast.

unfortunately the tight 5 weakness that was exposed last year by Eng and France was still there against this Japanese team. But there has been a huge improvement in heads-up play, skills and execution. The ladies will need to play quick and avoid set-pieces against the English

@Howard Pohatu Like everybody has told you already, Japan have beaten Fiji, Australia, Australian Barbarians and had a 1 - 1 series draws with both Ireland and South Africa this year. Including this game that's 5 wins from 8 games. They were overwhelmed in this match partly by the occasion (Playing against the BFs for the first time) and also the pace and physicality that the Black Fern's played with. The blowout scoreline doesn't reflect the quality of the Japanese side.

@Mere F Don't think anyone is taking it for granted. However England are world number 1 and on a record winning streak. We all know how knockout rugby can go, I'm definitely nervous but excited to see how the Red Roses go. Looks like NZ are peaking well, and France have pushed the Roses hard in each of the last few games.

Good test Black Ferns, nearly 100 points ,Woodman and Tui have to start on the wings for the first test of the world cup and the big games. And midfield stay with Fitzpatrick at 12 but with Fluhler at 13,Holmes best 15 and great kicker.,Other 15 in squad not sure, like Tubic the 2nd 10,why only 2 but?,but can play 15 too.

@Robin That game was Japan, still think Fluhler's exp in BF and 7"s for years, make's her the best choice for 13 with Fitzpatrick at 12,she can play 13 too,exp needed against the English, french, aussie's etc ...,du Plessis back up and future 13.

I don't understand why the 2 kickers, I'm sure someone will explain. I would have thought if she was good enough to kick from out wide, why not take the kicks from in front. I could understand if it was from half way but just a conversion?
Clarke 2 ай бұрын
Common theme in Men's rugby. Jordie Barrett for NZ and Reece Hodge for Aust, two names that spring to mind, that step up for the longer kicks. Conversions from wide out are much longer kicks than from in front. Generally the kicker who is considered the more accurate is going to take the kicks comfortably within their kicking range.

@Clarke I was pretty sure that they had the wings sorted with Ayesha Leti-I'iga and Ruby Tui and they would have been better with another specialist fullback or utility back in the squad. Also I thought Woodman was out of form but obviously I was mistaken. Who the hell do they start of the wings in a crunch match now? Could they have Ayesha Leti-I'iga on one wing and Woodman on the other and bring Tui off the bench? I don't know but having so many good players with x-factor is a great problem to have.

Thanks for playing Robin, you can go back to your safe space now. 👍😂😂

England were the favourites in the last World cup. Their forwards were going to smash the Black Ferns but we all know what happened. They couldn't keep up with the speed in which NZ played. We can apply the same scenario this time around. They have a good team but can they keep up with the speed of the Kiwi's. Let's wait and see.

@Robin "they will have to kick to the corner and use line out drives" yes and I am expecting NZ to throw a bit of that back at them as well. It's a cliché I know, however NZ, to close the gap that appeared on last years northern tour, will have to be strong at scrum and lineout with an accurate kicking game. Only if they get that right will their attacking game, they are clearly wanting to play, will come to the fore.

@Robin I hope we get referee's that penalised time wasting especially when they can't keep up with the speed of the play.

Here's some facts for you; Italy lost a game against Ireland in this year's 6 nation's 29 - 8. Ireland had a one all series draws with Japan this year. Yes Japan beat Ireland, the same Japan that the Black Ferns just demolished. So Japan beat Ireland and Ireland Beat Italy and you know who Italy beat recently? France. France who England can only manage 10 point victories over. So you are talking bollocks. Them the facts. Running, free-flowing rugby doesn't come naturally to the Northern hemisphere teams. If England want to beat the Black Ferns, they will have to kick to the corner and use line out drives, because that's about their only strength.
Mere F
Mere F 2 ай бұрын
The northern hemisphere always talk themselves up but who won the most World cups?. The Black Ferns won 5 of the 7 all of them overseas. This is the first time they played the cup in the southern hemisphere. England were favourites in the last World cup and the Black Ferns smashed them 😂😂
