I first watched the movie & I watched it by myself. It was very good, but I felt that the reason it was good was because it exposed the true ugliness of families. It was raw, emotional, and tragic, and I personally felt that the purpose of the film was to display how bad relationships cause bad personalities. I then watched the film with my dad & was in shock at how he laughed at it like a comedy. The only reason that some parts were funny to me were because they were sarcastic and unbelievable. I then watched this play and heard the audience laughing happily at almost every part. I can't understand how some people find this as a comedy. It is a tragedy & the parts people laugh at aren't meant t be funny, but are meant to be rude and nasty. I just took a much bigger message away from this movie/play than most people, I guess. It was more of a lesson than entertainment to me.

Roma,we live in a society where people are becoming more and more insensitive and shallow.It is a movie about dysfunctional families,secrets that come back to bite them and the consequences of those actions. There is certainky not much to laugh at. Maybe their families are perfect,so they do not understand the pain.But is there such a thing as perfect families? Cannot be.

@@PorAmorAVos some time ppl laugh at their own tragedy...like the song of the Bee Gees "the joke was on me" I guess it is a defense mechanism, specially in a culture where crying is not well seen and tolerated since we are born...

Good acting! It hardly gets better. Streep again fades into another character leaving us watching someone else. Julia Roberts too. All of them.
