I've been watching the MLS for a long time now but this it really is jarring how much the quality of the league has improved over the span of just 5 years. Extremely proud of the efforts being made, there's a big future for soccer in North America

I share your excitement. Look at some of the crowds this playoff run. Some of the atmospheres have been fantastic! Especially here in New England, a team who is infamous for their subpar atmospheres. Yes, it was a playoff game but the crowd here tonight was impressive nonetheless. It gives me hope that the Boston/New England market can one day develop a loyal following despite their struggles in recent years to get one. Potential fans are out there. I really want to see where the sport is at in 26.
@cx342 жыл бұрын
@@danielhuynh9368 Also, the new media rights deal coming at the end of next year has to be a big one, it's crucial for the future of this league. With that and the momentum leading up to 26, it's a perfect storm for the future of (MLS) soccer in this country.

@@cx34 I can see soccer in the long run being at least the second most popular sport in America. Yes. I think it can surpass the NBA. NFL however is a big question mark. The CTE issue is big, but we humans crave violence. I love the NBA. Basketball was my first love. Basketball will continue to grow internationally, but I also really think the NBA's popularity is overstated by the media. My hope soccer in this country can take the NFL's weekly game of the week aspect and combine it with the NBA's star power. Best of both worlds.

Seattle and Kansas City are out too despite the good season. In the playoffs the strategy is very important, that each player keeps his concentration and head in the game, that the team is in good shape physically. If it comes to penalty kicks it is important to have a good goalkeeper and that the kickers don't get nervous (Philadelphia vs Nashville).

It's crazy that the entire season comes down to a one game elimination playoff series. The Revs were the best for the entire season and because they lost on penalties, their season is deemed a failure. So dumb.

Well, I think there is a lot on our minds right now. For the performance today, it wasn’t our best. Disappointing to be honest. One man really wanted it today, and played for the badge like he always does. He was also the most enthusiastic during the post match. Could you guess who it was? I think substitutes could have been made sooner and some of the wrong players were taken off. In my opinion at least, I have no power to question Bruce especially after what he has done for us. Personal thanks to Bruce for everything he has done so far and what he will do. I wouldn’t want any other manager. Despite the somber mood, Adam and Tajon goals were incredible. The best and worst moments of my life in a two and half hour period. Thank you to Tajon for everything he has done for us, and I hope he comes back someday. We’d welcome him with open arms and I can’t wait to watch him at Brugge. Same goes for Matt, Adam, Dejaun, etc. if more moves materialize for them. I would like to complain about the gap of time but I don’t want to look sour after what this club has done. I genuinely don’t know what I would do if it wasn’t for these players, the staff, everything. This club means the world to me and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Historic season and just slipped up at the end. I hope the boys have their heads held high, some seriously special people in around this club. Counting down to preseason now!!!!! GO REVS!!!!!!!

Damn. Full disclosure, I'm a Red Bulls fan and was pulling hard for New England for one reason - Yankee Stadium. Yes, NYCFC is our biggest rival, but that wasn't even going through my mind while watching the game. Now, if NYCFC beats Philly and RSL wins against Portland, then the MLS Cup will be between NYCFC and RSL at Yankee Stadium. For a league that's been trying to legitimize itself in the United States (and Canada) where the Big Four and college sports reign supreme, having the final at Yankee Stadium would look really bad for the league. I understand NYCFC's stadium situation is shitty and that New York real estate is no cakewalk, but they've been in the league for over half a decade, at some point NYCFC needs to get a stadium built. There was a comment that I read, however, that made me see a side that I initially didn't think of - NYCFC winning MLS Cup would be huge for soccer in New York, both for them and for the Red Bulls. New York is dominated by the Big Four, and anyone who supports either the Red Bulls or NYCFC knows that (MLS) soccer is largely irrelevant here. No one truly cares about whether New York is red or blue unless you actively follow either club and the league as a whole. If NYCFC goes on to win, it will put people in the New York Metro on notice. New York sports fans like winners, just look at the Yankees for example. NYCFC winning MLS Cup will surely turn heads and gain them a lot of new fans, and the Red Bulls will surely gain fans as well. I just hope that the Red Bulls win it before NYC does, but either team winning the Cup will be huge for MLS soccer in New York. Also, if NYCFC wins it and gets more fans as a result, then the outcry over their stadium situation will only grow louder. To think that the Yankees want more parking spots. I want to be able to go to Hudson River Derby matches away at a soccer-specific stadium. It's going on seven years. If not now, then when? P.S. - New England having waited over three weeks between their Decision Day match and this one seemed like too much. I honestly believe NYC having played more recently gave them an advantage.

@cx342 жыл бұрын
@@ninoskaarte Yeah, but some MLS clubs like Montreal and Columbus have rebranded senselessly. I wish the Red Bulls would rebrand, though, but I doubt that will ever happen. If anyone's being stubborn, it's Montreal's owners, who are refusing to listen to their fans and instead telling them to shut up and accept the rebrand. At least Columbus' owners listened to the supporters.

They had a very long layoff and I think that did it. The international break and the bye took them out of game shape. Still, a new regular season points record only a couple of years after being way down in the table has to be considered a great season.
@PearseXI2 жыл бұрын
It really was unfortunate timing... that and the MLS playoffs being designed pretty poorly. The supporters shield is just cursed... The revs had a 3 week bye coming into the playoffs, thats a hinderance to the team. We still pushed the eventual winners to penalties so we should be proud. I've just got a bad taste in my mouth because I knew coming into the game the Revolution would actually be at a disadvantage despite setting the points record and despite being at home because they hadn't played in so long and NYCFC just won a crazy game last week. It was obvious what was gonna happen. I told everyone i thought we'd lose. The MLS still has major issues people should be aware of

As an LAFC fan, I feel for the Revs fans. Kinda diminishes the importance of the reg season. Even super clubs like Man City can have an off game and lose to an inferior team. Wish the MLS emulated the leagues in Europe. The team with the most points at the end of the season should rightfully be crowned champions. Teams should be rewarded for their consistency over a long season. If we’re gonna have playoffs tacked on, how about a much shorter reg season like 16 games and fewer playoff spots. Might make it more interesting.

Let MLS be MLS I think. There's another side of drama in this. European leagues are all the same, with promotion and relegation system. Kind of predictable at times with huge money spending teams come out on top 4 each season. Apart from LEICESTER (EPL) years ago... I think MLS is better this way, be unique than the rest of the world in terms of tournament structure.
@johnhwang9442 жыл бұрын
@@xammendoza667 I agree with pretty much everything you wrote (and I was also ecstatic when Leicester City won the title). I’ve been trying in recent years to support the MLS since it’s our domestic league. I do appreciate there’s more parity in this league so any team has a legit chance to win a title. My one gripe is I wish the reg season mattered more or maybe have less playoff spots. I think of college football where literally every game matters. I’m sure the MLS is doing things that’s feasible business wise and what appeals to the US market.

@@johnhwang944 the regular season matters in the event that you get Champion League spots depending on where you finish in the league on top of the MLS Cup Winner and the U.S. Open Cup winner entering in Champions League. The league will not expand the schedule and we keep getting more franchises, which means there's no way you will play every team at least once in any season.
