People take comfort in things they know or presume to know. To have things that are status quo challenged isn't comfortable. Look at how certain scientific discoveries changed our world view. Tectonic plate theory started emerging in 1915 for example.

I feel for the math major who had trouble articulating just how insane SJ is in STEM. It shows how people who a really smart about science or numbers - but not words - can lose to people more apt at spewing out words without any regard to their statements being logically coherent.

Direct democracy can have a place at the local level, but the more you decentralize, the less direct democracy makes sense, especially in such a large, diverse population. California should not dictate what Maine does. Direct democracy can fall victim to the tyranny of the majority.

Would have loved to have had an event like this while in school. I would say also - I think this shows the importance of a neutral moderator who knows how to ask questions and keep the discussion going. By neutral I mean Good faith neutral, not neutral moderators/sjw like a lot of moderators nowadays. Neutral moderators who are biased towards having a fair and balanced discussion. That’s the key.

The problem is that liberal students (particularly at a strongly liberal institution) tend to not want to engage in these sorts of discussions, because they already have ideological dominance on the campus. So who showed up is skewed right and center. It's great that they got as much diversity of opinion as they did, but this would be much more interesting at a liberal college if a Philosophy, English, or other type of Social Science professor did this for one of their class meetings.

I am not sure why, but throughout my life I was the one who spoke up when no one else did. I honestly didn’t care if you liked me or not. I often walked the opposite direction when it aligned with my values. I am very interested in other people opinions. I like to strike conversations with people I tend to disagree with. I tell myself that I don’t know what I don’t know , it’s good to listen to why do people think they way they do. I usually, not always, end up with a stronger reason for why I believe what I believe . Sometimes, it shows me the cracks in my belief and I tend to investigate further. Go talk with people, standing up and really sticking with your true values, may give you a little trouble but a hell of a lot more self respect.

This piece showed the wide Variety of "Conservatives". "Armed Society=Polite Society". Most Conservatives I know would have COMPLETELY agreed with that Statement. Most Conservatives I know are Constitutionalists. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights wasn't written after a HUNTING trip....the 2nd Amendment has NEVER been about HUNTING. What passes for a "Conservative" is more than likely a Middle of the Road Liberal that doesn't fit in with the Ultra-Woke Liberals around them (with of course exceptions). What most don't understand or recognize in themselves, is their COMPLETE lack of Meaningful Education. Bring back School House Rock (in its original form). Not only don't they recognize their ignorance but REFUSE to do anything about it if they DO (educate themselves). If "talking heads" on the MSM or some online "Influencer" isn't saying it....then it Must NOT be True.

This was excellent! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see more of this in classrooms all over the country & even the world. To me this whole social justice issue has infected, negatively, the way people interact with each other. The division I'm seeing in the world today has been created purposefully TO DIVIDE. I know who is doing it and why and it is as insidious as you can get...the outcome they're looking for is a civil war to bring in a communist world, a One World Government that I don't believe the young can see. It's like we're in the novel 1984 sometimes...at least heading that way. They keep everyone focusing on these specific subjects & keeping them in a forced state fear of disagreeing with the ideologies being pushed w/o allowing people to understand & see the big picture, the reason this is all happening. It's frightening to me. Again, I hope this method is implemented in all schools & not just schools but that it can catch on with all peoples in everyday life. The idea to agree to disagree but at least keep an open mind w/o pressure to possibly learn something you didn't know, or consider a different point of view w/o being in fear of hostility or judgement or being labeled. Already anyone disagreeing with the "status quo" are being labeled as terrorists, TERRORISTS by America's globalist puppets, our government, that has basically burned our Constitution in order to implement this so called "Great Reset" that will only be great for THEM! the "elitists", the Davos crowd, the Bilderbergers, the WEF & many other unelected societies. It's world wide mind control. Thank you so much for this Peter. I had not heard of you before. I just saw it in a VERY brief article by The Citizen Press. I WANT TO LEARN MORE!!!

I am also a Math major and have witnessed courses that do not need to be inserted into my major. These courses are deemed required for general education course completion. I admire the essence of building well-rounded individuals by accomplishing these courses, but some courses are unnecessary. I love English, Math, History, and Science. I usually take general education courses within these subjects. What really disappoints me is that my major requirement courses have few good teachers and classes. For every subject I need to take, only one class is available, giving me only the option to sign up. Math is my ultimate favorite but my major in my university lacks excellent teaching.

To improve these discussions it would be good to have more disparity of thought. Might help if a more left leaning campus group would sponsor the event. Of course the problem is that it's a free speech excersice and modern liberals won't accept that concept. I also belive that the only way to get deeper on the topics would be if both sides could articulate the other sides opinion. More like a traditional college competition where you have to seriously argue both sides.

I’ve seen someone try this at a “liberal” institution. The students acted like a bunch of toddlers toward the speaker & they lied about who they were & wouldn’t let the female moderator get a word in edgewise. They were intolerant, only interested in their point of view.

Can you have a conversation sometime about how the phrase "social justice" is an oxymoron? Justice is necessarily the fair and particular apportionment of whatever is deserved, owed, or obliged to individuals. You can't "do justice" to a group of people unless they have all experienced the same injustice, which is also necessarily caused by some singular source, such as a person or institution. So either you have to acknowledge that everyone in a racial/gender/whatever group has not suffered or caused the same injustice and that by doing blanket "remedies" towards them you are, in fact creating further injustice, or you are making the blanket assumption that everyone of a given singular demographic feature has the same life experience, which is essentially racist, sexist, or whatever -ist is relevant.

"The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination" Say you have twin boys, Jared and Sam. You have 3 cookies. You give 2 to Jared, 1 to Sam. Just because you favored Jared that day, because you just like the name Jared better. Is that discrimination? Yes. Is that unfair? Yes. Next day, same situation, but this time you give Sam 2 cookies, and Jared gets 1. You do this to make up for the day before. Is that discrimination? Yes. Is that unfair? No. The question is equivocating, interchangeably using distinct definitions of discrimination to suggest fault in the remedy after the fact, relying on the negative connotation of discrimination, which does not apply to all definitions of the word. Discrimination = "the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex." And Discrimination ="recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another."
