It was an interesting project, and I'm sure you learned a lot from it. Given the way the Violin is held and played, the location of the Jack is a tricky question. It might be better if a Wireless system were used.

Not being a violinist, I should say that's a pretty good looking instrument. During the construction phase I thought, man building all by halves is not going to work as neat as a more traditional building. You proved me wrong. As you said, sometimes you should get out of the confort zone. Kudos!!

m far outdated.hv just watched while its been longtime ...congrats to u.i am a keen violin maker as a hobby.m so interested in the humbuckers p.ups that u did..hopefully one day i am able to make same pickups myself

An interesting experiment, indeed, and i think the basic construction idea works well, at least as far as the two part body idea. I think you are right as to the thickness of the wood for the top/bottom and sides. And definitely the use of guitar tuners adds extra weight, exactly where you don't need it i.e. at the far end of teh instrument, where that weight will contribute to fatigue in just holding the instrument in the fingering hand. As to pickups, I have contemplated making 4 individual posts, one for each string so that there would be no intrusions into the playing area, such that each post is a pickup in it;s own right. As to whether that could be done to give enough output from each pick up, i don;t know Anyway, an interstng build, and I look forward to seeing what develops from it in your future builds.

Fun project. Some day, I will make a violin for my daughter that has been playing for a couple years. I would probably keep it pretty traditional. Violins way more so than guitars are all about tradition.

Graphtec makes a ukulele tuner that weighs only 5g. I wonder if it could take the tension of a violin string, while bringing some modern machining benefits?

If weight was a concern, I would look at geared violin tuners - I'm sure the standard tuners added quite a bit of weight.
