Highly modified Tamiya TGX mk1 speedrun car w/Hasi tuned O.S Speed 21-04, insane power! CLK GT-R

Time to see PK's Tamiya TGX mk1 speedrun car in action for the first time. Featuring the insane Hasi tuned, O.S speed 21-04 engine. This car has been beautifully designed and engineered by PK for quite some time now. Todays run saw right on 104km/h before the spectacular tyre failure. PK was hoping for around 130km/h from this current setup. not bad for an old single speed Tamiya TGXmk1. Hopefully you enjoy the footage. Thanks for watching👍

That's so cool having an electric starter motor. Are the starters difficult to inatall? 🎉😅

Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 This car uses an aftermarket bump box as the starter. No modification needed on the car, just need the bump box setup correctly. If you can find the original Tamiya 41040 starter box this is much easier to setup. Cheers 🍻🇦🇺

Beautiful speed run car with the perfect engine. I've seen a handful of speed run vids with tyre blow-outs and all I can say is thank goodness that it stayed in the middle of the road away from the gutters.. still such a shame to happen especially after just getting it built.

Thanks for watching👍 Funny you should say that you have seen a handful of blowouts, on this very day another guy showed up with an Arrma Infraction and a Limitless that both had tyre failures within the space of an hour or so. I managed to get them on tape too, maybe Im just a bad luck charm😌 And yes, very lucky to stay away from the gutters, this area we run on is very wide but there is quite a crown in the middle of the road that can make it a little tricky.

Ouch it hurts ! i've broken my tgx just entering in a small puddle and lost my radio control, crashed to roadside bump at full speed. Even my underplate was bent. Sold after acquired spares. i miss every day. Mine was an red clk.

Love it when people get creative on aerodynamics and hand made parts! I especially love the CLK GTR bodyshell, those cars were made for pure speed and performance, and sadly they had the tendency to 2:51 although they didn't need a blown tire for that. That engine is sick! 104 km/h is insane for a single speed! Hope the car wasn't too damaged from the crash :( Thanks for sharing my friend!

Thanks again mate, yeah the owner/builder of this car has gone to great lengths to create this awesome machine. And yes, just like the real thing this CLK went over pretty quick, luckily no real damage to the car just a few scratches. PK is hoping for somewhere around 130km/h from this current setup and based on the footage I reckon there is still a bit left in the sick engine🤙

Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 I believe that the .21 in this TGX is sitting in a custom engine cradle. I think the engine mounting holes in the chassis plate have also been modified so that the cradle can sit further towards the edge than normal. You can also see that the fuel tank is rotated 90° to allow some extra room for the rear exhaust🍻🇦🇺

It's a really cool TGX. The maximum reduction ratio in the future is 4.46,which is amazing! I definitely want to see it. Currently, my TG10R has a maximum reduction ratio of 4.5 for the 2nd speed of the specification with a 26T pinion mounted with couch bell processing. I want to run it together.

@@korc2157 Thanks for your comment. Strong downforce is essential. The setting that does not rotate is also important. The toe angle when turning the steering by strengthening the steering by strengthening the differential is also important. Has a good radio control life.

Hi mate, unfortunately those re release cars are 1/10 scale. This is the bigger 1/8 scale bodies that are long discontinued and command very high prices these days. Cheers 🍻🇦🇺

We just had to remind him that this was out of his control, a defective tyre was to blame. All of his hard work, planning and engineering held up to the test, we are all looking forward to the next run👍

Amazing car. Just curious. The tuned pipe is hooked with a long extension? Would it not drastically change the tuning length and negate the benefits of the tuned pipe?

Hi, I still have a TGX Mk. 1 chassis and your videos make me want to make it work again but spare parts are rare, old and expensive. Is there any compatibility between , e.g., TA-0x chassis and TGX ? Thanks

Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 Yeah there are a few bits and pieces that are compatible from other models but even these parts are getting harder to find too. These parts are mostly hardware or engine related items, TA02 wheel axles and centre shaft work (I think from memory), TG10mk1 diff centres, engine mounts, clutch, flywheel brake, single speed, etc. As this was only 1 of 2, 1/8 scale on road chassis from Tamiya, most of the other parts are specific to the TGX. Just steer clear from any of the TGR and TG10R parts as they a not compatible. Was there something in particular that you are chasing? Cheers🍻🇦🇺

@@korc2157 Hi, more specifically the suspension arms as they are weak at both ends but especially at the C hub (which is strong enough). The e are hop up parts but the prices are insane. I may cut some 7075 aluminium to replicate said arms. Thanks for your answers. Take care.

@@podoclaste Unfortunately the control arms ar specific and no other models are compatible. Even though the alloy arms are a nice addition it is worth keeping in mind that this then creates a weak point at the carriers on the differential case.

Where can I find a Body like this for my TGX? I understand the center wheel base is 300mm and has been hard to find something in the performance sports car look.

Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 Bodies for the TGX are quite hard to find these days and when they do show up they usually command quite a high price. The only other options are from the HPI Super nitro series and they are equally hard to find especially here in Australia. I think I saw some 300mm Honda NSX bodies for sale in Europe a while ago, not sure who is making them but I know they are a little wider than a standard TGX. My collection consists of mostly well used bodyshells, some restored, some pretty rough but still good for running. Good luck in your search mate🍻🇦🇺

What a strange platform to use for this sort of thing. Great build but needs a few things sorted. Firstly the exhaust was way to long. No matter how well it has been ported add that much to the exhaust and it will never get on the pipe so it will be lucky to make half it's rated power. Secondly the clutch was way to light. Still not properly engaging during the entire speed run. If it isn't spinning the wheels hard by 1/3 throttle you are just wasting power. After that with a bit of body tuning and maybe a different wing you should be able to get the best out of it.

It is an odd platform to use but it's a very special car to me as is was my first ever nitro car back 1994. I have 1/10 and 1/8 Serpents that I could use but the 20year old dream of putting a 'big block' into a TGX was too strong. The long header doesn't do the entire rev range any favours but was needed to keep it under the body or if I really do want to maximise the output I'd run it back the other way with a marine style pipe out the back window. Basically this car is just an old love story. Anyways, when I wanna go real fast I drive my 8s limitless 👍

ps the centax gap was too racey along with the spring tension. It's set up much better now
