Hey mate, I’ve got a TGX and wanting to install a O.S 18cvrx motor Just wondering if the Tamiya Tm2 pipe and muffler will work with the O.s 18 motor?
@korc21577 ай бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 Yes the TM2 muffler will suit the .18 cvrx, but you will need the 41050 manifold for this motor. I was not able to obtain that manifold when I first put this car together so I used the 41028 and had to drill out the mounting holes from 3mm to 3.5mm. Reason for this is the O.S motors use the same manifold bolt spacing as the Tamiya .12 size engine which is different to the TM2 manifolds 41028 and 41023. You will also need to use spacers to raise the height of the engine (between the engine mounts and the engine) to avoid the backplate and pull starter housing from binding on the centre drive shaft. This will be more crucial if using the reinforced or the carbon prop shaft. Hopefully this all makes sense Cheers🍻🇦🇺

Hello again mate from California - may I ask which bump (starter) box you used in this video.? I know some of the older Tamiya ones are harder to get and some of the more recent ones require "reverse connectors". Do you happen to know what these may be? lol.
@korc21578 ай бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 I use the Tamiya 41040 starter box as it is made for the TGX, TG10 and TGR. It is really simple to use as it has specific plates for each model which screw directly to the starter box, it perfectly aligns the flywheel for each chassis. However the 41040 is quite hard to find and can cost quite a bit of coin🤑🤑 You can use both the Tamiya TW starter box and the starter box III, these are still around and can be had for a reasonable price. You will need to reconfigure the unit as it is setup for the TG10 mk2. You will need the reverse connectors for the newer versions, although I was able to swap a couple of connections over to make it work. Hopefully this information is helpful for you, good luck in your search🍻🇦🇺

Hello again mate. Hope you are well. I am "remodelling" a TGX Mark1 chassis and have just done the Mini body. As far as the chassis - what do you recommend for a suitable engine as well as the front/rear shocks? The chassis is in good shape by the original FS-12LT looks a bit worse for wear and the shocks look weak. My research shows the general recommendation to be a .12 to .18 size engine assuming the mounting holes are the same. A .21 looks tempting but that may be too much for the TG10? As far as shocks, I cant seem to find a set that would conclusively work for the TG10. I am new to Nitro/Glo so probably missing something. Lastly if I may ask - is it necessary to cut a vent hole in the front/rear window of the body of the 1/8 Mini or can I get by without doing that.? Thanks as always mate...
@korc21578 ай бұрын
Hi mate👋 sounds like you have been busy. Yes you are correct that .12 to .18 engines will fit in the TG10MK1 chassis, I would recommend any O.S side exhaust engine as this will use the same manifold/muffler and gasket as the FS12. One thing you may need to consider is using the hopup prop shaft as the stock unit will usually pop out with a power upgrade. In my experience the .21 engines will definitely not fit in the Tamiya TG10 mk1 or the TGX mk1. When it comes to the dampers for the TG10 mk1 there are a couple of options. Firstly the CVA dampers which come standard with the chassis are sufficient but sometimes seals and oil may need to be changed. If you are looking for a hopup alternative I might suggest the 53155 low friction dampers as these are still in production and can be obtained for a reasonable price, although some people are put off by the colour of these dampers. The part number for the TA03 low friction dampers is 53280 and they come in a few different colours but command a high price if you can find them. With regards to vent holes, I prefer to cut vents in my body shells if I am going to run them. I only have a handful of bodyshells that have been untouched, they are either destined to stay on the shelf or have limited running. As a lot of my collection is pre owned most of them have been cut by original builders and I will usually just try and make them presentable. Hopefully you find some of this information useful. Cheers🍻🇦🇺

Hi, thanks for watching👍 it really depends on what you are looking to get out of the hobby. The Serpent is a very fast, purpose built racing RC chassis with many features and a lot of tunability. I am a massive Tamiya fan and the mk2 is a great chassis too, especially when fitted with a good rear exhaust engine and the Tamiya racing clutch. If I was all out racing I would have to go with the Serpent due to the pedigree on the other hand the Tamiya can still turn some good speed in racing but in my opinion is a little more fun to drive. Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 The part number for the 2 speed main shaft is #2595099, this part will prove very difficult to find. Hi, I still have a TGX Mk. 1 chassis and your videos make me want to make it work again but spare parts are rare, old and expensive. Is there any compatibility between , e.g., TA-0x chassis and TGX ? Thanks
@korc215710 ай бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 Yeah there are a few bits and pieces that are compatible from other models but even these parts are getting harder to find too. These parts are mostly hardware or engine related items, TA02 wheel axles and centre shaft work (I think from memory), TG10mk1 diff centres, engine mounts, clutch, flywheel brake, single speed, etc. As this was only 1 of 2, 1/8 scale on road chassis from Tamiya, most of the other parts are specific to the TGX. Just steer clear from any of the TGR and TG10R parts as they a not compatible. Was there something in particular that you are chasing? Cheers🍻🇦🇺

@korc2157 Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching👍 Yes these backing plate gaskets can be hard to find. I once saw a clip or read somewhere that you can use a thin (as thin as you can find) aluminium adhesive tape, clean the back of the block, apply the tape and then very, very carefully trim away using a craft knife. I have actually tried this method and it seemed to work, although it took a couple of goes to get it right. Other than that, OS backing plate gaskets work from the early CV engines too. Cheers 🍻🇦🇺
