The dog trainer for this show was the same guy who's trained the dogs for pretty much every Broadway show that's had them, for decades. He says that he almost always gets the dogs from shelters, rather than from breeders. For a dog to work on stage, they need to be able to ignore all the stuff like the lights and the audience and everything else going on around them, and just focus on their commands. (If you watch closely, you can see the actress having the "conversation" with the dog is using hand signals to prompt him.) The trainer says that he goes to the shelters and finds the dogs that are just kind of hanging out, mellow, even in the middle of all the other dogs barking and people going by, and those are the ones he can train for Broadway.

You have to check the rest of the show. The musical is based on the movie of the same name. My favourite song from the musical is “So Much Better” Omigod You Guys by the way is opening number of the musical. It’s based around her sorority sisters and her long term boyfriend who she thinks is going to propose her. The whole number is the catalyst for the storyline for the show.

There is a recording of the whole show. I think you should def watch it. It’s soooooo fun. I’ve actually been in the show twice and I can say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had on stage
