one of my best memories was being able to see them live when i was in the midst of my headbanging phase as a teenager, i think it was 2007 or 2008 in montreal. i remember rolling a joint in one hand while getting bumped around the edge of the pit, and being so proud of my accomplishment only to have a puff before it disappeared during the brief respite from the chaos that we allowed ourselves between songs

I love it. im 50 and was way into punk rock and never heard of high on fire. i dont know how that stuff happens. same gos for sleep. i knew they existed on the metal side of the music i love but there was always enough on the punk side to keep me entertained. not sure how i ran across sleep, yet one more time, but this time i listened. honestly, at first, i sped up jeruselum because i didnt get it. then i got it. then i couldnt stop listening. then matts guitar work became cler as the highlight. thats how i found high on fire. i stay in my music box too much. this is pure gold, though. i cant get enough of matts guitars and his vocals are siiiiick.

I remember buying "Surrounded by Thieves" in the early 2000s when it first came out. I'd never heard of the band at the time, or "The Art of Self-Defense". I was in a record store and the guy working there said I'd like to hear this CD as he knew I liked metal. So I agreed and the first two songs on "Surrounded by Thieves" blew my mind. I was floored. I'll never forget that moment: everything that I'd cherished about heavy, evil-sounding (but ultimately in the service of something actually good) music had been fulfilled in those moments. Every damn thing I liked about that kind of music rang through when I listened to the CD: they were everything good about Sabbath, Motorhead, Maiden, Celtic Frost, Black Flag, Slayer, Discharge, Melvins, Jesus Lizard, etc and I could hear echoes of those great bands in their music. I'll say though that they didn't just copy them but rather took all those elements and made something all their own. Also, HOF is one of the few bands who have had a very long career yet have never made an album that sucked. I am loving these new songs!

Heck yeah! I'm 45 now and still listen to metal as loud as I can. My parents listened to rock but not metal but they were big Sabbath fans. I remember as a kid the first time I heard Sabbath, I was like WTF is that!?!? I don't know how but this HOF is kinda new to me. I have forever found my new calling! HOF for life!

I mean I thought I was looking forward to my other favorite bands new releases like Aborted, Ingested, Dying Fetus, but none of it hit me nearly as hard as High on Fire's new stuff, especially this song.
