Only possible reason I can imagine the previous owner was considering scrapping the car was the engine light. Some folk think that little symbol glowing on the panel means the engine is finished, rather than it requiring investigation to see how major or minor an issue it indicates. Volvos are one of the hardest cars to write off, they are usually capable of giving a bit more service than may appear to be the case at first glance.

If the cambelt was done 7 years ago it needs replacing immediately. Ok it's done very little mileage but the rubber and fabric belt degrades over time hence 60,000 miles or 5 year intervals. I had a white 2009 1.6 petrol for 2 years and I almost regret selling it (for a nice profit too), having a company car meant I only drove it on weekends and I felt it wasn't worth keeping at that time. They are comfy and safe cars that stand out while looking way more modern than they are. From what I've seen most of those seats have a habit disintigrating and I was lucky to find 2 front seats (white leather) from a 2013 model. Definitely a viable and reliable first car for beginners!

My daughter bought a 2010 1.6 petrol as her first car at 17, she loves it, I had the timing belt changed for pea e of mind and it's a fantastic first car for her, she's been driving a year now and insurance has come right down for her too. It's a bit quirky and was a wild card when she was looking for her first car and I'm so glad we found it, it's a solid reliable comfortable car.

Very nice looking motor there Matt - Glad it got the High Peak Auto rescue service, definitely too good to scrap.

A mate of mine had a 2.0 litre Diesel one of these, it was pretty quick. Apparently they were popular with fans of the Twilight movies as the "hero" vampire drove one.

Great cars these. Owned a nice spec S40 of this era and driven the C30 a few times as a family member had one. Although looking a bit dated these days, definitely doesn't feel it's age to drive one. I do much prefer the revised newer shape C30, but still. You really can't go wrong with one of these as a first car, second car or simply a cheap reliable mode of transport. Performs equally well around town as it does motorway driving. This particular one is for sure one of the best examples I've seen.

Uber cool car, what a great service you've done saving this one, on my wish list along with a BMW estate for taking the husky out and I think I'm sorted

Great job. I know I'm splitting hairs but you did talk about a gearbox service (which you always emphasize the importance of), and the rear windscreen wiper. You said around £120 for gearbox service. How much for rear wiper? I don't know under £50 maybe. That eats into your profit - is it ok to pass that on to the new owner? Would you tell them? I think it's a great little beast and if I were in the market would seriously look at it if I knew what still needed to bring it up to scratch. Love your show Matt. It's relaxed, fun and informative.

Not to mention the replacement of the front grill, which I gather is factory anyways? Seems to go with the black trim elsewhere on the car

He mentions gearbox service on a few cars and doesn't always bother to do them....

Fair point, but the gearbox service is a nicety rather than essential. It drove without issue, so nothing major wrong. He's not keeping it for himself & he isn't a charity for the next owner, who'll probably be a volvo enthusiast who will get it done themselves. If I was buying it at £3k, it's a good negotiating point to knock off £150-£200 from the asking price. Everyone wins then 👍.

I owned a 2008 C30 R Design, 2.0 diesel, absolutely loved it, never skipped a beat and so frugal. My biggest regret was not buying it at the end of the lease. You’ve got a cracking deal there Matt.

Great video about a fantastic car! I've always rather admired these, but never seen one in this colour! Glad you saved it! 😊

Coming to save us and you @highpeakautos color is named Brilliant Blue. It was a continuation of 1800ES and 480 models with that rear hatch glass. :) There is no coer over the OBD port on P1 platform cars. :)

I bought a 2012 C30 for my daughter last year here in the US. Great car. 71k miles, one owner, all service done at the dealer. Paid a lot more than you did though!

Was waiting for this one! I own a C30 1.6L, absolutely love it. Nice interior, looks great and pulls really well for such a small engine.
