I bought a used 2013 CT Premier S @ 24k miles about a year ago and I absolutely love it. One of the best things about it, as you touched on in the video, is how it encourages you to drive in a state of zen like meditation while trying to maximize your average mpg. Which at the same time results in a very pleasant and comfortable ride, it's like the car tells you how it wants to be driven and if you work with it, it's an absolute pleasure. Even the voice of the satnav lady is calming. I doubt anyone driving a CT has ever had road rage. A couple of minor issues though: - I find the seat horrible. My daily commute is just over an hour each way and by the end of it I invariably have back ache. I bought a lumbar support which helps a little but it's still uncomfortable. - The rear passenger electric window seems to have lost it's zero point and thinks it's home position is 2/3rds of the way down. To close it I have to manually creep it up until it reaches the seal, but if I go 1mm too far it takes itself back down to 2/3 and I have to start over. - I think a little bit of plastic has broken off inside the indicator stem and sometimes when I switch from right to left indicator, eg when coming off a roundabout, I hear the most horrible sounding crunch. One time it must have got stuck in the wrong place and I couldn't turn the left indicator off again. - The cruise control doesn't know about the assisted-braking mode. If you turn cruise control on whilst in B it confuses the hell out of itself. The other factor that was a big plus for me was the safety rating and the fact that it has something like a dozen air bags. Often having young children in the back this was a primary concern and the CT ticked the box. I'm surprised you had to change the brake pads. As I understand it, when you brake mildly it actually just engages the generator to slow down the car and recharge the battery. It's only when you brake harshly that it engages the physical brakes. As a result, if you drive it well, the brake pads will last basically forever. Lastly, I'm 34 and only a tiny bit grey :)

Hi, they're great cars. I loved mine. It doesn't make sense, because I shouldn't like this kind of car, but its so calming and relaxing. That has just made a lot of sense about the comfort of the drivers seat. For the last year I've had a bad back, which I blamed on my mattress, but Ive not had any pain since I sold the CT - that must have been the culprit and I had no idea!! One thing that annoyed me slightly about the indicators was that they didn't have that feature that most cars have nowadays where if you tap them, they stay on for a couple of clicks for a lane change. Its a small issue but I was surprised that a Lexus didn't have that feature. Overall though it was a pleasure to own, and Id probably have another

Paid 26k for the top of the line spec model with sunroof, ML stereo, 10 inch infotainment screen, 17 inch wheel, led headlights, etc. The car is comfortable, reasonably quick in sport mode and so far it's been reliable. The lexus dealers treat their customers with respect, which is what I did not experience with Mercedes and BMW.

Had the CT when it first came out, and then upgraded to the 2017 F-Sport version (wanted that revised look with the spindle grille) and got rid of it for a damn RAV4 SUV SE Hybrid...and although it had more leg room in the rear, I simply wasn't a fan of how it drove. Switched back to the 1st gen CT in the F-Sport Special Edition trim and extremely happy with the decision. As you pointed out, it's extremely sluggish on acceleration and trying to overpass anyone on an on-ramp is next to impossible, but I've found that once you get it up to speed and build some momentum, it behaves really well at higher speeds - especially in Sport Mode. Great review!

How bad is the power actually sir??! all of you guys pointed out this flaw! i am considering switching from my 2009 1.9tdi VW golf mk5 estate with 105ps, and those 105 horses were more than fine for me to be honest..i also drove a baseline BMW 316i F30 with 136ps which felt enough powerful but the maintenance was expensive like all BMWs, so how sluggish is the CT??
@DapperDilla3 жыл бұрын
@@cortex1347 Well to start let me just say that I've never driven the VW TDI or the BMW you had, but, considering the horsepower numbers appear to be somewhat similar I can say with confidence that CT isn't going to win any 0-60 times, however, it is peppy in Sport Mode and once it's up to speed I've personally never had any issues doing triple digits. It is a slug from a dead stop and merging power is lacking - I have noticed there is a "sweet spot" in the rev range that would help that out....just takes some getting used to. I found myself ignoring the lack of power from the solid MPGs and combination of nimble handling.
@Tunguska_Gamer19083 жыл бұрын
I feel that the main problem with this car was the entry price. For a top spec version in the UK they were around £30,000, which is too much when you consider what you’re actually buying… the used market for these are popping and they do retain their value well. The sweet spot is 2014-2016 reg as you pay £0 road tax and they had an upgrade in 2016. The 2018 appears to have a few more upgrade features but when you account for the tax being paid each year alongside the inflated price tag it’s not worth it, in my opinion. For around £12,000 you can pick up a decent spec 2014-2016 model with under 50,000. Good buy if you’re a city driver or doing a reasonable commute and want a small hatchback.

It is so well put together compared to anything else in its class and is fantastically smooth and comfortable. There is enough power for 99% of every day driving situations and the gearbox really suits the way you're supposed to drive the car. I probably made one of the most drastic switches here. Before I bought my ct200 I owned a GT86. Growing up with racing movies like fast and furious, watching drifting clips with for example an AE86 and being born in 1986 I just had to get one. Thinking I was cool, trying to score with the ladies I did some irresponsible driving like drifting around roundabouts and driving really fast on empty roads during the night. The ladies didn’t like that recklessness and I was anything but cool by acting like this. The car was to stressful to use for daily commute to work, always getting annoyed by how slow other people were driving. All that car wanted to do was drive fast and it was always encouraging you to do so or do some other reckless showing off like spinning the tires or drifting. I could get in super relax and always got out pumped up with adrenaline and a level of being annoyed or even angry. To stressful for daily commute and to impractical for going out in the weekends since I never drink and was always the designated driver. But then couldn’t really transport any people in my 2+2-seater. Honestly, I hated that car but it took me a long time to realize that, still thinking I was mister cool and popular. Having some close calls with near accidents and knowing I would at least get caught and fined someday I decided to sell the GT86 and buy a cool looking F-sport white Lexus ct200 with red leather interior. Not knowing anything about hybrids or even Lexus, never haven driving one, not knowing anything about the technology or fuel economy I instantly fell in love with it. I can have the most stressful shitty day of my life but as soon as I get behind the wheel of my ct200 I instantly get totally relaxed. Opposite of the GT86 this car encourages you to drive slow and economic. In the beginning you constantly find yourself looking at the information energy display and you can’t help but smiling every time you see how much fuel you are saving. You can drive this car like any other car and you will get decent mileage by letting the car use its technology. But it won’t take you long before you start adapting a new economic driving style yourself. The car will encourage you and you start making a game out of it to use as little fuel as possible. Calculating when the lights will be red and letting go of the gas pedal well before you hit the intersection will cut off the engine while still moving forward, when the lights turn green again you can accelerate on battery alone doubling your fuel savings. Its like having the advantage of limited fuel savings with a start/stop function that many cars now have plus extra savings when taking off again. I used to get so annoyed by heavy traffic, standing still, moving a few feet, stopping again, moving …but now I’m almost disappointed when I can just keep driving the speed limit. When I do end up in a traffic jam the car switches to battery power and I just cruise along totally relax not getting annoyed my petrol engine needs to start up every 15 seconds or is burning fuel when I’m not moving. Its not a car to be driving sporty but its not as bad as everybody claims, at the line I can pull away from almost everybody with both the electric and petrol engine working together. Other cars with hasty drivers only pass me when I hit the speed limit and they themselves go well over it. When driving normal (or maybe a bit adapted driving normal once your addicted to hypermiling) you will never hear the engine screaming like you do in all of those testing videos with people complaining about the engine noise. Ok with the exception of picking up speed when going on the highway, but once your cruising at highway speed its back to normal again. For comparison if your driving a entry level budget car that has little sound insolation in the engine bay you will have more engine noise for a longer period of time. So its not really the level of noise of the cvt transmission that might bother you its probably more the monotonous sound that it produces, like some people describe it to be more of wining noise. Doesn’t bother me however and again if you want a sportscar buy something else. I consider myself an hypermiler now and the best I can do in this car is 4.1L/100 km or (edit) 68,9 miles/gallon UK. But that’s without doing any highways witch I rarely do, when combined with highways the fuel consumption goes up a bit contradict to conventional cars, let’s say I’ll do about 4,5L/100 km or (edit) 62,77 miles/gallon UK. On average you should be able to get close to that kind of mileage once you have embraced the technology and adapt your driving style a bit. For over 2 years now the display is showing 4,3 L/100 km or (edit) 65,7 miles per gallon UK. Sometimes it still feels like a lot, but it’s very close to the number that’s found in the original brochure for that build year of 3,9 - 4,1 L/100 km or (edit) 72,43 - 68,9 miles/gallon UK. The new brochures however are edited to 4,8 - 5,3 L/100 km or (edit) 58,85 - 53,3 miles/gallon UK. Knowing I’m doing the same or even better than what the brochures says, I can only say that Lexus is being really honest and realistic about their numbers. When looking at other car brands and seeing they claim the same numbers or even lower without using hybrid technology, they are just not being realistic. And yes, a diesel engine, still very popular in Europe can get close to those numbers. But if you drive your diesel car that slow to achieve those numbers and never put your foot down your filters will clog up and you end up destroying your car.

@KrisCT2004 жыл бұрын
@@gardini100 Hmm good question, not sure about that. I guess you are worried about the hybrid battery condition because you suspect the car has been standing still for a while, or at least not doing enough miles to keep the battery healthy. Only way to find out is to ask the owner for the maintenance records of the car. Normally all Lexus and Toyota vehicles undergo a “ hybrid battery health check” every time they go In for a big maintenance. The name says what it does, it checks how much capacity the battery still has and you get a complete oversight on how much degradation there is over the lifetime of the car. If the owner doesn’t have any of these records and you are serious about buying the car, then make a suggestion to perform the health check in a Lexus or Toyota dealership. Its not that expensive, the basically just hook up the car to the computer and run a diagnostic. Mine is still in excellent condition, hardly any capacity degradtion, i'm at 80.000 km, around 12.000km a year.

Try and get one that's been maintained by Lexus every 10,000 miles or so. If its had a lexus service recently, they will have done a health check on the battery too. Generally though they are very reliable and they rarely go wrong. I couldn't tell you of any one thing thats a common issue - which is very rare on a used car!

My son said it was time to sell my Toyota Tundra Crewcab which, as you can imagine guzzled gasoline in its sleep, and purchase a hybrid instead. I had never even seen the CT200h until I saw one at a local car lot. When I learned that it got about 42 MPG I was sold. The lines of the car are elegant and the interior is solid and feels and says "luxury". Yes, it does not have the power of my Tundra, but this car is not about power; it's about a comfortable, well built car, with a load of amenities that will get you where you need to, on little gas money, in a stylish hatchback. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I do wish the back seats had a bit more leg room. Thank you for your commentary! Enjoyed.

The mechanic said these engines are good but if mine were leaking from the timing chain cover it would be costly to repair. I check online what dealer charge for the repair and its 2k-4k at the dealer. So if you are looking to buy one get it on a lift and check those areas as well.

Soooo......day 2 driving a 2012 LEXUS CT200H. My 4.0L Frontier Crew Cab truck just cranked out 385,000 miles and decided to act weird on idle. I bought the LEXUS to save on fuel. OMG, I averaged 42 MPG vs maybe 20 Max on the truck, however, I drove the truck like a rabid teenager all the way to now with crazy power. This LEXUS CT200H turned me into an adult driver, although I will be 60 in a year from now. It's not that this car is for older people, on the contrary, it's really fun in it's own way, and the comfort, gadgetry, overall feel of great quality..... the operational cost absolutely seals the reason to own it. So what if there is a battery bank replacement soon or way down the road, at this point, I'm up for it. It kind of reminds me of why motorcycle people might own a Raskull or Grom, the insurance is 1/10 the price of other motorcycles and goes slower, but in this case with the LEXUS CT200H, I not only fit in it at 6',2" compared to the small scooter, the car is unbelievably comfortable. My heart melts when I see the car and right when I sit down inside. In sport mode, the car has power, and here's the deal: If I can still go down the highway at 90 MPH or 145 KPH (which I have), I have achieved the same end result. I think my car is the same color paint and leather as this one in the video. It's immaculate and a joy. I wonder why I would want to buy anything else with all the moving part when this car has minimal. Yes!, Yes!, Yes! , Calgone I mean Lexus, take me away...

Perhaps one of the reasons people _enjoy_ it is that great fuel economy means that you don't think about costs at all. It's like you don't think about the cost of fuelling your body to go for a walk. The fuel cost doesn't niggle in the back of your mind. If you get one with low kilometers, it's even better. It feels like you can drive long distances per year without noticing the cost. In fact you feel like you get more benefit the more you drive it.

It is actually wrong to say that it is just slow. That drivetrain with the electrical motor makes it very quick, at least from zero to about 50 km/h. So it is perfect in city traffic. And it is very relaxing to drive as there is no point to drive it sporty, it does not work for that. So you just "give up" and keep on cruising instead. Best feeling. :)

I had one for 3 years (the longest I owned any car) and never had any issues with it. I liked it till the day I sold it, the only downsides I think were the dated screen and space in the rear seats. I became a father and a baby seat is a tight squeeze, I needed to adjust the front seat on order to make it fit - which reduced comfort. I now drive a nx300h and that has plenty of space. Much easier with a little one in multiple aspects - hope to enjoy it as long or longer than my CT!

Why are people so hung up about how a hybrid engine sounds? Seems to me that having the engine already be at peak horsepower RPMs is ideal for any car instead of resetting constantly through every gear. And the CVT bashing really shouldn't really be applied to Toyota hybrids since they use a planetary gearset instead of belts. Any slipping that happens is due to the MG-1 allowing it.

Good review, 9 month long experience with this car is a lot more useful than any quick review on a brand new car. But there are few things where you are wrong. Toyota in their hybrids is not using a gearbox. It's transmission not a gearbox and it's called e-CVT. It has nothing to do with CVT you might know from other cars. e-CVT is maintenance free and cannot fail unlike any other gearbox out there. Engine characteristics under load might sound annoying but this engine works in Atkinson-cycle, it is designed to provide efficiency at the expense of power density. Top speed is at around 110 mph (180 kmh) and 0-60 is just under 10 seconds. I think that's more than enough for a city, suburb car.
@HighPeakAutos6 жыл бұрын
Orwell APB Hi, thanks for the comment. I’m impressed with the car, hence why I kept it so long but it’s main flaw is the lack of power. It’s adequate I suppose for city driving, but it never excites. Also, in England nobody uses the word ‘transmission’, it’s an American word. Rightly or wrongly we mainly refer to it as the gearbox.
@Tr33People5 жыл бұрын
Bullshit, that e-CVT will fail eventually especially without fluid changes. Most makers now have these maintenance free lifetime transmissions and they wont last without fluid changes. Everything that has fluid in the car needs to have that fluid changed in order for the car to last.

This uses the same HV battery pack technology used in the Prius. Same engine, same Hybrid Synergy Drive. Prius cars have managed 400,000 miles on the same HSD battery pack and propulsion system. Boring? Perhaps. Reliable and over engineered? Definitely. I’m driving a 2008 Prius bought June 2013 at 55,000 miles. It now has 110,000 on the clock and hasn’t broken down yet. Last serviced in December 2018, the HV Battery is still in perfect working order according to the Toyota techs. This is the same ultra reliable technology that has gone into the Lexus Hybrids. 43/40 mpg; I think it looks nice, and it looks miles better than a Prius or any other hybrid really. I’ve driven enough sports cars, if I want that, I know what I’d get (or keep my rx8 Shinka) from a trans am Ws6 to a brz. I’ve also had a Prius and a civic hybrid. The fun comes in getting a tank at 90+ mpg. A cvt isn’t bad, people just don’t get it; they should never have shift points programmed. I prefer a standard, but appreciate what a real hybrid is. I think you are a bit too negative, to the point of bias/chip on your shoulder. To explain my point of view, think about almost every brz/frs/86 review you’ve ever seen, then watch Chris Harris review when it first came out; he doesn’t complain about ‘prius’ tires, he doesn’t complain about it being ‘underpowered’, he doesn’t complain about the torque dip. He just drives the piss out of it with a smile, and gives it a proper review. This review is so melancholy. I do see the positive being said; but I think it’s a dismissive overall perspective.

The point is reliability! They seem not to break! Might get one after having Volvos! Not many problems with Volvos either but seems these lexuses are even better!! 🙏😊 thx for great video!!

Lexus reliability is just stunning. I test drove a 2001 lexus ls430, it had 230.000 miles on the clock i never believed the internet until i went for this test drive No rust, no creaks, every electric worked and windows smoooth, but the reverse sensors didnt work but you have a reverse camera. Then i drove it, just as smooth and effortless, it still felt new or at least less miles than it had done. I was stunned and wanted it right there and then. Luckily my brain took over but dodge, jaguar and lexus are my favourite brands. Do they still do the ct? If so heres hoping they can put the new 2.0 corolla engine in it.

I was loving Honda, but then I realised Lexus is built by Toyota aka one of the most reliable car builders in the world and now I'm addicted to looking at this car.

You like the car because it is well built/ not fancy. Does what it needs to do and is of high quality. Lexus AKA Toyota have a production process called TQM / CQI. If you look them up you will see why they ahead of almost any manufacturer. I would argue they are ahead of every manufacturer. If they bring out an all elctric car- Tesla best watch out. These guys have shown the way for a long time amd we will see if new players bnechmark Toyota as the standard or become an also-ran car manufacturer.

Yeah you're right, but they should've made a quicker version of the CT perhaps using the 2.5 litre from the IS300h

And yet, despite the lack of power etc., and your having, presumably, a wide choice of cars, you kept it for these 9 months and however many more. This speaks volumes for the car.

Really well-rounded review. My dad likes the CT and is looking to go from his RX to the CT, simply for the fuel economy. The CVT does have that slightly annoying trait of the high revs, but the offset of that is that there’s no feeling of it changing gears, and the CVT transmissions are super reliable too. I guess it’s something that you have to live with but has its plus points too eh. Thanks for the video. I’ve sent it to my dad so he can have a watch of it.

Thanks for your comments. Overall I was really impressed with it. Very reliable, very efficient and very economical. Lexus customer service is the best I've experienced too. I would recommend getting a high spec model though if he's coming out of an RX.

I just want a comfortable car and cheap to own. That’s it.. So it’s either this or a Camry for me
