When you say about parts. Mat Armstrong on his you tube channel did up a salvage one and was adviced by bently to check out the main dealer prices on parts. A nice honest review. I worked at Crewe for 37 years and the development & testing we put into that car was huge. As for the VW parts - yes we did use many of their parts but we often tweaked/redesigned/retuned to a Bentley spec and made them much better - that really pissed off the Germans🤣🤣

I've been fortunate enough to have some pretty decent wheel time in all Bentley models over the last 12 years, and I must admit, your review is spot on. Flying spurs are also a terrific "feel good" car, and more practical than the GT. Main dealer service is a good price, considering my old XJ6 used to be £500 or thereabouts. Bentley after-service is also second only to Rolls Royce (and that's REALLY picking hairs) The Conti is definitely on the "When I've paid the mortgage..." list.

Great video again. I have the RR 5.0 supercharged exactly like yours but on lpg as a daily runner & a 2004 Continental GT which I use regularly. It was my dream car & took me 5 years to pay for it, but totally worth it. Bought it with full Bentley history with 56k on the clock. Biggest bill in 6 years was £2k for new radiator (cheap from Scuderia) & water pump & drive belt. Got front brake discs from well known online parts place for £300 & they arrived stamped “Bentley Crewe”. Result. Many VW Audi parts crossover to the Bentley. Bottom line is as you say buy a good low mileage example & enjoy it. You may get the odd larger bill but totally worth it. Find a good mechanic you trust (mine is Audi trained) & don’t be scared! You will not be disappointed. As a total petrol head I’ve had a lot of cars but the Bentley is something special! I gaze at it every day & still can’t believe I own it!

What a realistic and encouraging review, I was lucky enough to buy an ultra low mileage, 2007 GTC six years ago, I too think this is the best car I have ever owned and driven. I still have the car today, my only regret is that I have only managed to amass a total of 20,000 miles. The feeling I get when driving is as exciting now, as it was when I first got the car. My original plan was to commute to our house in Southern Spain, on a fairly regular basis, for a variety of reasons, this never happened, hence the low mileage. I recently decided to sell the car, but I couldn't attract a single interested enquiry, could be due to covid, or maybe my asking price. Either way keeping one of the best cars, in the World, is no hardship. keep up the good work.

My Brother's co-worker bought this car. This car is an Mechanichal Nightmare..every repair is stupidly complicated and expensive. Just to do the spark plugs you have to take of the air intake manifold and replace the gasket afterwards. The alternator is liquid cooled from the radiator. This thing takes like 12 quarts of oil and I think you have to take off the catalytic converter to get to the oil filter. Now, the one that my brother's co-worker owns breaks down all the time, and every time it's like an 1,800 dollar repair bill. Last thing was the front air suspension, just the 2 struts alone are $690.00. I had the whole entire front end rebuilt and aligned on my Nissan for $700.00 parts and labor.

Great informative vid. Recently part exchanged my SLK55 and seriously considered a Bentley Cont. After much thought eventually bought a BMW M4 Conv. Just wanted to stick with a hard top Convertible with performance. I have 500 BHP 4 seats and a very comfy ride when dialled in, so for me a no brainer! Beamer can be a bit jerky unless full right peddle commitment, probably down to the 2 turbos, but sheer performance is something else. Puts my SLK55. TVR 5.0 to shame!! Maybe in a few years I will end up with a Bentley or Aston but currently value for money/ low depreciation and a proper petrol head useable super car the BMW M4 takes some beating!!!!!

Great review Matt. I've driven several of these including the Speed and Supersport versions and have to agree that they are fabulous cars. Now if I could find a nice clean LHD model for that price (I live in Spain), I'd be very tempted. Do you still own this car? If so, an update on your experience of ownership would be fascinating.

You are of course right as usual. I owned a RR Shadow 1 and always pay the extra and get them to service it. When I had mine it serviced by Mann Edgerton in Leicester the RR dealers at the time. Then another time by Mr Pimpmymotor for half the price. Trust me, I went back to RR. My story of RR ownership was that I have a background of nightclubs so one day I walked into the local RR dealership in Leicester and pointed to one Rolls and said I want that shape but pointed at another and said but I want it that colour. The salesman at the time sniggered and looked down his beak as at the time I walked in on a Saturday morning in full skinhead gear with a black eye, half asleep carrying a bag of some £30K which in 1986 was a lot of money! I opened the bag and it was all smiles and "Yes sir/No sir"! I never scrimped on it. I owned it for two faultless years, cost me a fortune but in the end I sold it as people where just jealous. Sometimes it got scratched by some idiot who owned a Capri! So the secret to big expensive cars is have deep pockets. 37 years on I now drive a 15 year old 207cc, but that's called living in London and limited space and parking. But yet again, a perfectly true and honest point of view review.

I have the 621 bhp supersport. DO NOT service these cars at 10k intervals ! Your oil is the lifeblood of any car. You should change the oil every 5k miles. Oil loses its properties. And gearbox sealed for life? No way. Change the oil and filter every 50k and watch for leaks around the gearbox sump. It's made of plastic and distorts. Lastly clean out the rubbish in the engine bay bulk head (plenum chamber) and clear the drain holes, failing which, you'll get damp in the passenger foot well which will mess up the car electrics situated in the void of the nsf wing and that is mega money to fix. Buy quality filters and fully synthetic 10 40 oil like Mobil 1. Follow these guidelines which will save you money and grief. TF

Most amazing car and exactly my words! Buy a outstanding one with low km and keep another 15k in spare for service and repairs for the next years. It will give you the biggest pleasure for the rest of your life! Any luxury car was on it's quality peak in the mid 2000's, after this quality dropped enormous. Again, of course Bentley and RR are a different topic of course. I wouldn't know any better car and more luxury on four wheels than this Bently for this kind of money! It is MY and THE car for luxury weekend trips and a vacation week in our Croatian/Italian mediterranean neighborhood, all in all no more than 5.000 km per year. Great video, best regards from Austria!

4:08 Totally sums up the downside to owning a Bentley. Every time you drive it you're just waiting for that darned engine light to ping at you, because you know A) It will at some point, and B) It ain't gonna be cheap. I speak from personal experience.....

couldn’t agree more , i had an 06 GTC in 2012 The air suspension went , ( just out of manufactures warrenty), they only replace them in pairs . Total costs of parts and labour from Bentley Surrey …… just under 18k ( ok they also did some work on the engine ) . Thank God for an independent super car warrenty . loads of other electric niggles too . in the end i got rid of it for a 2011 Porsche 997 turbo s . to date zero problems . The issue being the GTC has too much VW and not enough Crewe parts.

@@Steve-cc6xc My first Bentley was a 2001 Arnage, the one with the RR 6.75l engine. First the head gasket went (£3,500) then all the water belts had to be replaced (£2,000) then the gearbox went (£3,000). All in one year. I was looking into a Flying Spur but they too have serious issues with air suspension and similar costs. My brother also had a Bentley which suffered numerous electrical issues (generally £500 a pop) We came to the conclusion they are "3 year cars". Only buy one if it is still under manufacturer warranty. It's very sad really because they're truly stunning cars, with bags of performance, and incredible presence...if only it wasn't spoiled constantly waiting for the engine light to illuminate....

I'm in the National Trust but can't Bentley Continental GT. I must be doing something wrong. Beautiful car Matt. Very pleased for you. Enjoy.
@johnparnell85713 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love these cars but Matt’s response to the dashboard warning signal at 4:06 tells you all you need to know. Autotrader’s own experts rate the Bentley Continental with just one star out of five for reliability and it currently resides in their survey’s worst ten models overall. These cars are packed with sophisticated electronic wizardry. There is a lot to go wrong and electrics do deteriorate with age, wear and tear, and lack of use as well. A sensor can be triggered by something as silly as a marginally below par connection, but will likely cost a lot more than a tap and go of your debit card to get the fault traced and put right…and who knows what expensive surprise awaits when the next warning light illuminates. A quality second-hand Bentley Continental, like Matt’s example, is a great car to own, but it is not for the faint-hearted or those with shallow pockets.

I had the misfortune of being a passenger in the rear of a continental, let's just say, after an hour, I could imagine how being tortured on the rack must have felt. Your right about the battery, it seems to screw them up if it goes flat, they really don't like that.
