Now that is what you call a car, you can tell it's a Jaguar from any distance, nothing else looks like it. This is a bit of class and I'm so glad you saved it. Even if it ends up at five or six grand it's an awful lot of car for the money and I can't wait to see it finished. Well done Matt, you definitely made the right decision.

Hi Matt. Mine is a Sept 2001 4.0 Sovereign in Emerald Green Metallic. Depending on the light, sometimes it looks like British Racing Green; sometimes it looks like Sapphire Blue. It's in great condition with only 74,000 miles on the clock and I absolutely ADORE it. So much so that when I see someone like you so enthusiastic and excited over these wonderful cars I well up with pride. There really is nothing like them. If they've been looked after from new, they're not expensive to maintain. There are loads of ebayers who supply second-hand, reconditioned and aftermarket parts. Yours is the best YT channel there is about cars. Keep up the fabulous work.

A truly beautiful Jag. Elegant, understated, and classy (please don’t remove the coach-line)! Brings fond memories back from my childhood, when dad had his. R567 EGP - blast from the past! That glorious V8, the sound of the second beep when locking the car, the indicator tick, the style of the interior lights by the rear passenger head rests - like something from an art deco dining room, so beautiful. Hi Mat I would genuinely rather have this in my garage than your AMG GT . I really hope that you change your mind about this old Jaguar. It does deserve to be saved, but more importantly it deserves to love in your garage at home .I absolutely adore the 308 its the last of the try jags ,it's a decent car under all that dirt and I would be extremely disappointed if you moved it on for a measly profit of 1500 quid. Old Jaguars turn heads and it says a lot more about the man that drives it than an AMG ever could. Be proud of your roots ,you know you want to keep it ,and when asked what car do you drive. In your best Jeremy Clarkson. I drive a Jaaaaag 😁🇬🇧❤️

As a lifelong Jaguar fanatic I would never buy a cheap neglected example. They are all money pits. Always buy the very best examples and even then expect large bills. Parts on the X308 are becoming harder to source. Jaguar Heritage only seem to keep an inventory of quick turnover parts.

14:39 That rear door looks as though it has a few dings in it too !! I used to get to drive these 3.2s quite often in a previous job about 20-odd years ago. The ride quality was immense. There's a section of A road that was made from those concrete slabs that aren't smooth and don't line up exactly to the next concrete slab. In most cars, you could feel the thump-thump-thump as you crossed over them. In the XJ, it was just a distant sound of patter-patter-patter... then you got to boot the V8 round the next roundabout (Five Ways near Mildenhall for reference).

That's a thing of real beauty. Cars like that deserve to be saved. Don't get rid of the stripe whatever you do.

A beautiful car. Keep the coach line, it's part of the car. It deserves to be shown at all Classic Car shows. People will love it and drool over it. If you can't keep it, find someone who will !

When I heard you say the MOT had lapsed and it wouldn't actually start, "The Life of Brian - what have the Romans ever done for us?" came to mind. I just knew there was going to be a rather long list to come.

I can completely relate to this. As an Audi RS6 C6 owner, I have spent way more than the car is worth to get it into a condition that I think it deserves, because it makes me happy. New cars leave me cold. Older, interesting ones like this feel alive.

My Dad has a XJ8 in pristine condition.... and even he tells me you need the pennies to own one.... tyres alone are more than what you paid... let alone the exhaust - mind you a nice V8 engine is tempting.... great presentation again!

As a kid in the 80's and early 90's we always used to drive past the local Jaguar dealer in Falmouth in my parents yellow mk3 Escort. I always used to wish my dad would one day pull into the Jag dealer and buy an XJ. Never happened. I still want one.

Of all the cheap cars you massively overspend on, This should be a keeper. A nice clean budget comfy cruiser that's not trying top hard like so many modern stuff. Get this looking like it deserves and at least use it for a while. Enjoy it whilst they still exist.
