I don’t think we need a reason. It’s ok to buy what you love and enjoy it for what it is. Even if that means just looking at it and admiring the design. Cars stir our emotions and that’s what makes us human. Anything to make us feel good these days is worth having in my world. Even better if it’s got 4 wheels and an engine. Great vid. I completely understand. I love car design but I neither own a car nor have to a licence. & after buying car mags as a teen (100s) & now slavishly watching all the latest car videos on KZbin- I completely get the idea of just looking & enjoying the pure design of certain cars from a certain period. That era of 3 series is probably my favourite BMW. Although the new X1 looks- how do you say- Quality lol. I left school when the Lexus LS & MX-5 & BMW X5 first came out. They were heady days. People forget how revolutionary the X5 was in the day- not only in execution but also market acceptance that translated into not only big sales but also cash cows that enabled companies to not only survive but also thrive. Look at Porsche's balance sheet because they (quite rightly) made an SUV to pay for everything else. It would interesting to see a roll call of not only all the cars you have owned, but also the buy & sell figure stories to fill in the random mentioning of various cars in all of yr vlogs. Have you done a story on a MX-5? If not please do. I enjoy yr work immensely. Please keep it up. D

E46 coupe’s are great looking cars and they didn’t kill its good looks with the cabriolet, which in itself is often quite an achievement. We had a 330i Touring back in the day (and a pre-facelift 318i coupe when almost new); the earlier 318i had better steering feel, but the straight-six had a much better soundtrack, if it wasn’t as quick as I thought it was going to be. £3.5k is a bargain however - and probably better for being an auto 👍

You're right about not "needing one", I didn't either, but it was a nice thing to drive for the couple of years I had it (as a second car, daily was a boring SUV). And the hangar style shed - I'm totally with you on that, I also seriously considered renting a warehouse not long back (as my fleet is now up to 5, and only one can fit in the garage). I sold a great example of the BMW 330Ci 2 years ago for £500 with no rust , no scratches,a new reverse gear, new water pump and belt, alternator, wheel bearings etc. . Do I regret it no. It was lovely to look at and drive with the roof down. Being 20 years old I started to get electrical issues. The windscreen fan heater stopped working on a cold winter night making driving home with a missed up wind screen very dangerous. The roof retraction motor then gave up the ghost so the cost of repair v resale value equation came into play. I now have a TTS coupe as a replacement, its faster and has no rattles or creaks.

What a beautiful car, there's nothing wrong with having a modern classic car, as you said Matt, they come from simpler times, no complicated electronics etc, I would keep the cassette player though as I have loads of cassettes and nothing to play them on now lol, I really like your idea of setting up a warehouse then buying and storing classic cars that you love, even if you didn't drive them, a kind of a museum for classic cars that one day in my opinion will cease to exist and when that happens, you could charge people to have a look around at the cars similar to the ones that they once owned or wanted but never had to chance to buy and just soak up the ambience as it were, I don't think it's weird to want to do something like this, we are all different and that's what makes us who we are.

If I remember correctly, that gold trim in the interior is called 'Champaign' and it is very rare to find these days.

I have a 2003 330ci sport orient blue with blue top.with 138k and it has not a single creak or squeak. It's remarkable and one of the things I love about the car

Always wanted a 330ci. The straight six makes a wonderful noise. I had a 320 Ci but always regretted not getting the 3 litre. I don't think you're weird. I'd do exactly the same. Great video Mat.

Great review that’s a beautiful example best I’ve seen I’ve got a 2001 330ci I’ve spent lots of money on it but I just love it

I have a 1991 E30 318i convertible, and a VW Arteon 2.0 Tsi 280ps. Going from one to another is a culture shock. The E30 (Meridian red, BBS wheels and v pretty) is such a handful to drive. Ludicrously low geared steering (after the progressive system on the VW), enormous steering wheel, pedals offset and a bar above which traps my toes on the clutch every time. I have to remember to drive tippy toe. That said, I do love it and so do many others! It has the original fitted carphone (brick shaped), and I dream I'm on Howards Way saying "we've won the contract" into it.

Had a an E36 coupe bought when it was 15 years old and kept it for 6 years . Bits went wrong regularly and it drank like a fish. Still gutted i sold it. Yep so I do get it

Well, the E46 is the last truly classy BMW 3 series. It’s elegant, understated and it’s lined age like fine wine. I adore the color! BTW, remember a few months ago I asked about the D4 over the RRS? Got a gorgeous blue 2016 SCV6 HSE! Only 30k miles on the clock with full maintenance records! And dude!! The garage idea, I was just telling a buddy of mine exactly the same 🤣🤣🤣 I don’t care for super cars, only 80s-90s and early 2000s “regular” cars

I drive a '04 330Ci six speed manual with 320.000 km so I have to deal with those inconveniences that you mentioned but in a certain way I love the fact of driving an old good looking coupe with it's good and bad things.

I had a red one with black top. Perfect for cruising in the fall. Good combination of handling and comfort. I traded it in for a new 2003 Boxster S, my all time favorite. Nothing like the whining of a Porshe engine when you run the gears, but too many speeding tickets. No talking your way out of one.

Totally relate to having a car collection. I would have a big hangar style building with living accommodation above so that they I could see the collection over a balcony or through glass floor panels, and no super cars, you're not crazy Matt 🙂🙂

I’ve never been a massive BMW fan BUT this period of 3 series were just “right”! This example would have had me hovering over a buy button!!

I used to work in an upmarket used dealership in Johannesburg from 08 to 2016, I had access to hundreds of flashy sports cars on a daily basis and as I basically got to choose what I could use as transport home every night never gave much thought to actually buying anything for myself...until in 2010 a pristine, low mileage, perfectly maintained, zero comments on the Motor plan 2006 convertible, in white with all black interior, a full M-Sport pack, in manual came in and went on the floor...I spent all day looking at it, then on a beautiful summer night, took it for a long drive on the 120ish km highway loop around Johannesburg...I then spent all night unable to sleep... I drove it back to work the next day, went to see my manager and F&I manageress and bought the car for myself... I kept, drove and loved her until I sold her to leave SA in 2017... I still miss that car...everyone raves about the E46 M3 but I still reckon that the 330i is a much better and usable in daily use engine...BMW`s best!

Having had an E46 M3 I agree with you, there’s something about the simple 330

Sorry to comment on an old video. I remember being on holiday and the owner of the site having one of these with the green roof. I just fell in love with it instantly it looked so luxurious. I do love that green always wanted a car in it. Thankyou you for trip down memory lane ❤

I can totally relate. Owning an older car is more important than driving it.

Lolz! Not really sad. YYC 819H was my old man's Morris 1100 circa 1974. It did 75 mph down a sweeping long country curve when he tried it out. Me and my mate sat in the back grinning - although the din was ferocious.

Think the 3 series is an all round winner and a great drivers car. Just sold mine and really missing it. That's a great colour combination.

I must say I much prefer seeing a spec like this than the usual black with red interior. You just know when you see red leather that its going to smell of expensive aftershave and have almost no service history.
@HighPeakAutos2 жыл бұрын
😂 yes definitely. If it smells of Creed then you can guarantee they haven’t done a brake fluid service
