For anyone considering buying a 330ci, I just bought a 2002 with 108k miles. It runs great, is incredibly fun to drive, and cheap to insure. I’d say the most important thing to do is to get it checked out by a mechanic before you buy one though. It’s pretty common for the older bmws to need a new clutch, and many other fixes which could end up costing more than the car itself. $3000 USD is pretty unrealistic unless you’re buying an absolute beater of an e46, but something around 4500-6000 is a lot more reasonable. It really boils down to what you want to do with the car also, because if you’re not going to be hitting the track often the 330ci is better than the m3 imo but to each their own. Hope some of this helps :)

@v.s.727
@v.s.727 Жыл бұрын
The mounting points from the rear subframe can crack. But if the car was produced after 02.2000 this only happens when the car got abused. Also the M54 engines usually consume a lot of oil but that's not worring, you just have to acceot it and on the 5spd manual transmissions they sometimes have a problem where the gearleaver doesent center properly between 2 and 3 insteads it centers under gear 5. A lot of people say that the E46 is incredibky ubreliable, but I never had any problems with mine except for the coolingsystem. Some sooling parts usually crack between 100k and 200k miles.

@v.s.727
@v.s.727 Жыл бұрын
@@feisikLetsPlay Yes, the M52tü is a more reliable engine. But the 328i is an older version than the 330i. So they all have subframe issues, unless the chassi has already been reinforced. And Imo the 330i is already pretty slow, and the 328i is even slower.
@feisikLetsPlay

@@v.s.727 i wouldnt call it slow with the 7 seconds 0-100. Its all you need to have fun. Handling on the e46 (hydraulic based) is just great, its just a car as it should be, its fun and quite comfy when you want it. Its not a race car ofcourse but its a great experience driving these old e46.

It's all about the tuning costs of these cars. An ///M3 is a lot of car for the money. I had one and it was £1600 for new brakes all round. I now have an E60 530d and it was £230 for brakes. 😳.

Seeing a lot of people in the comments slating the reliability in the older bimmers. I own an E46 320d, 2.0l. I paid £500 for it, with 160k miles. (Had a new engine put in around 90k). I'm 21, have an at-fault two-car write off accident on my record, and I pay £1000 for the year for insurance. I've owned it for a year, paid around £500 in repairs (necessary to get it through MOT upon purchase) and it has never once let me down. I drive around 500 miles per week from North Yorkshire to south London and back. Top speed of 138mph, full tank of fuel will do around 600 miles for about £65, and I would absolutely recommend one.

Mine had a few rusty spots so i got it for 1500pounds. the rust was only on classic spots like the front wheelbase and on the trunk so i fixed it quite easy and now i have a beautiful cheap car that i can drive and enjoy for years

Last year I put over $6,000 into the car and still had around $3,000 still left to do before I gave up, sold it for less than I spent on repairs and moved on to a 2015 Jeep.... I will say however that E46 was one of the most enjoyable cars to drive I've ever been in, not to mention it looks so damn good. Can't recommend it to young people pinching pennies though.

Buying a used bmw when you are young, is the worst advise ever. Bmw have the worst reliability and highest repair costs in its class
@nikolamladenoff3516

That's bullshit, mate. My first car was (and it's still is) a 318 coupe e46. It's not as powerful as 330 of course, but in 3 years and 30k km on the clock, I've done only minor repairs and nothing serious. It hasn't left me bare foot on the road yet and its build quality is still awesome despite being 16-years old. On top of that I have all the luxuries a 20-year old chap would desire - leather heated seats, cruise control, hi-fi stereo, cd changer, electric sunblinds etc.

Go own a good well taken care of bmw e46 325i for a little while and. You will find after buying a bmw that's not a shitbox that was not taken care of by people probably like you. They can be pretty reliable. Coming from someone who knows a lot about them.

+Quentin Rowe yeah agreed - my 330i has done 158k - hard use, short runs and long combined. It's had regular oil service, once a year. The valve gasket needed replacing, £300... That's all its cost apart from the obvious consumables.

Owned an E46 318 and a E90 320 for years and neither of them had problems apart from a few broken springs (which was my fault for hitting bumps too hard, not BMW) Every time people like you try to make bullshit claims that BMWs are bad cars, there are thousands of other owners to tell you otherwise. One car in a hundred, does not make it a majority.

i can attest to this statement. my first car was an imola 6 speed e46 m3. after being lied to about the subframe being reinforced, paying 11k for the car and installing coils, the subframe tore the floor open and i ended up selling the car for a measly 5k.

Which BMW is best BMW? :P
@LogiForce86

The one you own, love to drive and take sweet care of. That's the best BMW. Which in my case is a BMW e46 316ti Compact with all options ticked except DSC, and is in a rare pistacho green color (#468) on both the outside and the inside sport interior. While these compacts aren't the pretiest, mine does end up turning heads everywhere. Besides, the e46 Compact has a retuned and improved saloon chassis. Faster steering rack and so on. It's really well balanced and I would even see it as a great RWD rally car, since it really turns nicely around tight corners... so ideal for mountain road hairpins. Anyway, as you can read I love my little Bimmer. It's not an M3 but it brings me that 'Freude am Fahren' nontheless, and that gives me the reason to love it in return. ;)
