Gosh I would like to appreciate the work that you and your team is doing……I may say going to grade A school doesn’t mean you will pass it on a sliver platter you yourself have enforced the spirit of learning in other to get it ones….Moreover weather you went for grade A or B school after WASSCE when you are able to pass very well you are going to University with that grade C school student who was able to advocate himself or herself in learning to pass….For me for instance I went to Grade B and got 6As and 2Bs and I’m a student at Kwame Nkrumah university of science and technology studying MEDICINE….PROUD OF ESIAMA SECTECH

I think the categorization was not necessarily done to downgrade any school but to guide students choose their schools. What if a student get like aggregate 15 but choose schools like Pope John, St Peter's, Mfantsipim and Presbyterian Boys... He's definitely not going to get a school

Interesting. Students need their alumni to enlighten them on the possibilities out of the SHS environment. You'd always be an ambassador of your school whether good or bad and the reason anyone you meet can have a perception no matter what is out there. Proving yourself does not end in the SHS level, there's still room to make a mark along the academic journey. People worked hard and earned the glory of their schools. Others can make that change too. Great work HSA!

I think the categorization is ridiculous.When I studied for the WASSCE I didn't even think about my school tbh I thought about myself and how to make my parents proud,it's dependent on the students no matter where they find themselves! Yes,the school with the highest WASSCE grades can be announced ,and there should definitely be yearly WASSCE rankings so we know which schools performed well and reward them.There should also be rankings in terms of competitions but never the categorization of A,B and C schools because in every school there's always going to be smart people!Instead of categorization there should rather be rankings!because some schools have lost the right to be in the so called "A category list" and are living in past glory making categorization ineffective. Yearly rankings are more up to date and would rather promote competition,not categorization of schools into A,B and C categories

Afua kobi is a B school And this placement thing, me for instead, the schools I selected after BECE, none of them were not giving to me but rather gave me a school I didn't even know about. And it was a C school. So for me, categorizing a school must be cancelled. better still, GES should give students schools nearer to their destinations.

I think all schools should just be upgraded to a certain level, in terms of facilities and there should just be a ceremony in the various shs to honor students who did exceptionally well in the BECE. I think think that can also arouse the competitive spirits in students😊

What is a grade A school? Most of them were built in the 60s-80s and with facilities. Some of them haven't been to national competitions before why continue with this?? It's not necessary! I know some schools still in group C with brilliant students. Getting a school after bece is now a scam. I had grade 10 and I had my last choice just look at this. The tamale girl said NGO what?? Tell her to stop😂 Most schools without facilities do not get support. I think categorising schools is good. It pushes students to work harder to get the desired schools. Those in B,C or D schools should also see the categorising as a motivation. Bc they know what is assumed of them based on their schools so they should strive and aim high to prove these notions wrong. Furthermore, if there is no categorization, mediocrity is what will be promoted. Because there will be basically no competition for high-achieving students since they won't be in an environment with others similar to them.

good point made but i think the classifications are not solely based on academics but the infrastructural facilities in these various schools. i think all schools are good. my point is i know someone who had 7As and a B in his BECE results but ended up in a grade C school and another had aggregate 25 in BECE but found herself in a grade A school. there are instances where students from grade D shs do better and end up in high positions but not so for grade A shs. that's my little opinion though, no need for categorisation

In Ghana , a category A school is not just a school having good facilities and better results in wassce , Like Bright Senior High school will be amongst the A schools but they aren’t, even though they have the best of facilities and record best results in wassce 🤔. But a school that was established long ago like 40-50 years + that has kept its standards till date ,produced more students who have contributed to the development of the society , record better grades and as well as a good facility and a beautiful environment

If the grading is based on SSCE passes, the cat. A school will always have the advantage because only the best students with the best bece results get the chance to go there. If the categorisation is based on facilities, then why the categorisation by the Government. The government is the primary provider of facilities hence if they have not been able to provide facilities for all the schools, why do you categorise schools to demoralise others. In both cases it is like a race between a dog and a tortoise. The tortoise is disadvantaged from the start.

The schools are resourced based on politics not the achievements or capabilities of the students. So no it's not a matter of working hard alone. Better funded basic schools produce better outcomes so their kids get into the A schools. The Ghana SHS categories are ultimately meaningless since even the majority of Ghanaian students on the "A" aren't competitive on international exams such as PISA. That said I appreciate the passionate debate between the young ladies. I would have liked to moderate this and challenge them on how they came to their conclusions. They should've been asked about the impact of money and access to resources. School categories punish poor children and reward better off students. Is that fair? How does that improve the overall progression of the country?

The Porter's lady is the most confused and inconsistent debater of all time 😂😂😂 There are so many factors that come into play with the categorization of schools and I can tell you for a fact that no single student's grade can move a school from category D to B. So that lady should stop making that argument. She speaks in an offensive manner but without making any sense.. If categorisation was purely based on Wassce grades, then there would be changes in the categorization each year. For instance, maybe Fijai school is in Category A this year and next year it goes to B because the wassce grades were bad. Where as, Bompeh which is in Category C climbs to A because they improved on their grades in the year under review.

There should rather be a rankings list of the schools who do good in WASSCE and other competitions rather but not explicitly stating a categorization into A,B and C that's ridiculous! High schools in the U.S don't really categorize schools they only know schools for being a good high school rather than stating it amd categorizing them which creates unhealthy competition and lower self esteem.
