Are there any shops around there? Someone may watch this out of curiosity of what there is around there. Even as a potential area to live. Looks like just road and condos pretty much, but I know there has to be more.

It is not surprising that there are no people walking, it is kinda expected in a place where a highway interchange with no any destinations in proximity. It would be more interesting to see what is inside area of residental towers.

The Highway 7 overpass that goes over highway 400 is very unique! The sidewalk and bike lanes are all in the middle of the road, with Jersey Barriers as protection. There arr no sidewalks in the side. That's to prevent conflicts between drivers accessing the highway 400 ramps and pedestrians. You should go there during a stream! I would suggest doing a walk on Highway 7 from Jane St to Weston Rd.

2:12: Fun Fact: For most of its history (1968-2017), much of the subway system wasn't in the "City of Toronto", but in the former other boroughs/cities of Metropolitan Toronto, but that wasn't seen as all that notable as Metro was all TTC territory and perceived as defacto "Toronto" by lots of people.

You never been to Winnipeg hahaha! Babies even drive cars around. People drive to the corner store! People go from their attached garage to car to a parkade at work to a drive-thru fast food, get fuel at a full service gas station, and back to that suburban home. Men go to their caves and wives to the the livingroom, and that is most of Winnipeger lives.

Highway 407 costs can be seen online they have a site that changes rates according to time of day and days. In real numbers I personally take it coming from Oakville to Dufferin Street at 3:30pm on a weekday. The total cost without a transponder is close to 50 bucks. Around $47 Can if the price didn't change. It helps me to avoid the worst parts of 401 going back home to Toronto.

When it comes to Toronto suburbs Mississauga and Oakville definitely have a lot more to do imo. Markham and Vaughan seem to be improving their city centres though slowly but surely!

Why would anyone want to spend a million dollars on a condo there. Like you said no community feel, not much around the views from a balcony in Vaughn are not worth it.
@yo-yotension46134 ай бұрын
That is not enough. You must develop from Milton to Whitby north to Newmarket to serve all GTA. This will reduce traffic and need for more expansion and new 400’s highways that are poorly designed.
@mattslowikowski35302 ай бұрын
There have been similar masterplan developments: for example, Canary Warf, La Defense, or Moscow City (a neighborhood in the city of Moscow). This one seems very much in flux. It has good transit connectivity right now though, and I expect it to look much nicer in 10 years. It will rival Mississauga, and possibly be better than Mississauga imo.

I was passing through the area for the first time since they started building VMC to visit someone at the new Cortelucci hospital. I suppose the buildings kind of look nice on their own, but I didn't see anything else but condos. In the years before the subway extension was built, I remember reading about the planners for this area in a North York community newspaper. They were looking at North York City Centre and they were criticizing it for being largely condos and supposedly lacking other amenities that make it a downtown. Haha! I have to say nobody seems to be interested in building anything but condos at VMC! NYCC has more going for it than VMC. So where are those planners now?
@andrew20146 Жыл бұрын
These days, the 407 is about 57% Canadian owned. 50% ownership is held by the Canada Pension Plan (so, basically all Canadians) and 7% is owned by SNC Lavalin.
@youbetcha6880 Жыл бұрын
The original plan for the York U subway extension was to have it go east on Steeles from York and loop up with the Yonge segment of Line 1, which effectively would have been a loop-shaped line. Instead, we got these two desolate stations. I think we can predict how desolate the Yonge extension stations in Richmond Hill will be.
@ALuimes Жыл бұрын
Are you kidding me? Have you ever been to Finch? Lots of those York Region riders on Yonge buses arriving there will be getting on further north instead.

Even most people who live don't think of it as a city. They think of half of it as the "Town of Woodbridge, Ontario".
@DroxalАй бұрын
It's sad that they force all condos and other developments in really unpleasant environments such as this. It's the super wide roads for cars, and a lack of community or commercial amenities that really make it feels desolate and unwalkable. Plus, all the cars and pollution. I feel that Mississauga downtown suffers the same issues. At least in the Vancouver area, the transit development feels slightly more livable (Metrotown, Richmond, Surrey, ect). Hopefully the GTA learns its lessons and builds better.

Found this very late, but the description intrigued me. And now I find that the narration shows me this is a pathetic example of humanity falling all over itself to solve "gridlock". Here context matters. We're going to the MOON. We dropped a probe on Saturn's biggest moon. Everywhere you look you got AI. But technology can't find answers to gridlock? Really? At first I was thinking a transit station that allows suburbanites to park FAR from downtown and get dropped walking distance from work or play. But now I see even that was futile. With hundreds of billions into gridlock solutions, and why does it not seem to matter? Why are there unnecessary long car trips? And are all those transport trucks there because Asian-made products have supplanted domestic products? Can't Canadian factories make things? I don't know. Humanity spinning in circles.

Typical North American Suburbia, just shopping malls, stroads, cars and parking lots. No character, no pedestrians.

You're judging VMC by the whole city. It's the area around the station that counts for ridership in this case and there's no mall right near it.
