Anyway, if he was in his 90's in the 1960's, that means he was born in the 1870's - meaning he was already an adult before there were airplanes, cars on the roads, radio and television, antibiotics, skyscrapers, etc. I wish now I'd have talked to him more.

The car is an early '57 imperial because it was made PRIOR to the 4 headlights being legal. Chrysler and the other auto manufacturers had to go state to state with a, well, "$trong" "lobbying effort" to get 4 lights made legal. When they did, owners simply went back to their dealers and had the 4 headlights assemblies installed in the openings which were designed for 4 headlights. The '57 to 59 Imperials, especially the convertibles are still so cool at car shows and vintage car cruzes....and Highway patrol the series was always great timeless TV enjoyment. There was always the 15 second morality message at the conclusion. Imagine any TV show trying to get that by network "executives" today....

If you notice, in these episodes, of Highway Patrol, when a police officer calls out for help, on the C.B. radio, for instance, he never mentions out the name, nor the make of the car manufacturer. He will normally refer to it, as a dark gray coupe, or even a blue sport exterior sedan. Lol! In other words, i guess that during those days, they didn't want to advertise the vehicule brand, or the make of the car, during television shows, like saying Chrysler, Chevy, Ford, or even Studebaker, for commercial syndicated reasons.

I live right around the corner and shop at an Albertson's which would be directly across the street from where Mathews was staking out the gas station, but did not exist when they shot this episode in the late 50s. The 5/10/25 Variety store is a commercial building that is still there at 2060 Hillhurst next door to Lassens. The Hollywood wizards did some cuts to make it look like the gas station was a ways down from the Variety store, but they would have been right next door to each other when there was a gas station there. I got my hair cut in that Variety store space for 10 years between about 2010-2020. Interesting that the prior tenant when I moved into the neighborhood in 1984 was not the Variety store, or rather it was a different kind of Variety store - a Beauty Salon that offered prostitution in a back room. It was eventually busted but remained open as a beauty salon for women that provided only beauty salon services....and then as the barber shop where I got my haircuts when I still had some hair.

Hillhurst variety store. Action must have been shot in the upscale (nice houses) Los Felix section of LA

Thanks. I was wondering where the professor's neighborhood was. Nice houses.

The series did TONS of filming around Los Felix. Also some just north of Hollywood Blvd.

Like the jack that the thief stole. Every car had a car jack back then and especially with a spare tire in the back.

Character actor Gene Roth who played Professer McKay and had a heart attack and died in this episode, was in 279 different movies and tv shows. He appeared in 4 episodes of Highway Patrol, some as a bad guy. Gene Roth actually died while crossing a Los Angeles street by a hit and run driver on July 19, 1976. That seems like a case to be solved by Dan Mathews and the Highway Patrol.

Many later shows provided the autos for that show for free and only requested that the show list their name in the closing credits that vehicles were provided by Ford Motor Company /GM and others. United Air Lines flew the actors from Calif to Hawaii for free on Hawaii-50 just to get a closing message that transportation provided by United Air Lines.

She looked well off. She called press. I would have SUED her for Slander and Libel. Then started asking where there money came from like under value , switching stones and she must have been in on it.

The press now is nothing BUT lies & slander & fake news. CNN is being sued. That needs to happen a lot more. The lies are dangerous.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Realistically portrayed citizens/criminals/law enforcement officials. Although not a Walter Winchell/Art Gilmore did a great job as commentator for the series-!!!🤗. Enjoy viewing 👀 gas station fuel pumps/automobiles/police communications equipment of that era. Remember Uncle Broderick portraying other characters in movies.

Matthews must be an appointed civilian head such as a commissioner not coming up thru the ranks. Ergo, no title with rank. QED😺

My favorite days of returning from the field, Granfewoerh & honhenfels training alerts. As we normally returned to the barracks in K- town, Highway Patrol would come on in the afternoon. Naturally being the crafty and ingenious speacialist E- 4, I was a glorious member of the "Sham shield authority," I made it a constant habit of getting out of duties, tasks, excuses once I received instructions from both my gung- ho 1st sergeant and his sidekick the top E-7 in our unit, really he was just lining himself up to one day take over the Ist sergeant's role. I somehow always managed to escape to peep homeboy Detective Dana Mathews, Broderick Crawford and see those off the hook chariots he rolled in. That 55 buick, that pimpmobile, 58 olds 88, and that 59 dodge caronet and others. Crawford always appeared in those hip looking flashy european cut suits, white italian shirts, razor blade sharp ties and awesome lids for cover. The flames was something else to watch also. I gotta away with this stunt for a little time, afer I returned from my E-5 promotion board and received my Ist NCO, non- commission officer stripes, as a sergeant later I couldn't hide from NCO tasks because we also had E-6's, staff sergeants whom were'nt fulfulling their tasks which unfortunately landed on the rest of us E-5's. Prior service folks basically understand how that program works, just ask them. How nice it would've been if TCM would pull off a three hour marathon of tons of episodes at once for entirety vieweing.

As a member of 293rd Engineer Battalion we built a missile base in Hohenfels, 61 and 62. Most of time stationed in Baumholder and Mains. By the end of my three years in army I had risen to the exalted rank of pfc. Who knows, if I had stayed for twenty, I might have made E-4! By the way, I spelled Mains correctly, the computer keeps changing it
