A lot of these episodes were filmed in the San Fernando Valley. The rural-ness of the 50's is plain to see. I lived briefly in Calabasas ('57-'59), the distinct, barren hills, characterized the valley in those days. Across the highway (no 101 yet) and a bit before Calabasas was the private hilly rural subdivision, called Hidden Hills, where my cousins would move to, in 1960. It was remote back then-houses were few and far between. I drove past the entrance on 101 maybe ten or so years ago, and couldn't believe it was the same area. Back in '59 when I last saw it while living in Calabasas, it was a massive hilly area, with so few homes built, that I had no idea it was private (gated).

I believe the highway patrol took away Broderick Crawford's license because of 10 or so drunk driving. They didn't like him very much as being Publix view of the CHP. I like the music and the narration. "When things go crazy and crooks are at your door. Who you gonna call? 2150 and Big Dan Mathews of the Highway Patrol." Remember; Crazy driving doesn't show who's right...only who's left.

The big blond hood Freddy is played by Ken Clark, who went to Italy after failing to get anything more than bit parts in Hollywood. In Italy he hit it big in peplum and spy movies.

A detor sign across the road is a professional touch?? That's something the coyote does to try and catch the roadrunner.. All they have to do next is to put a big X on the ground right where they want their victims to stand

Brod Crawford was a quick study but also a first class boozer. On breaks between scenes, he'd down a pitcher of beer in one gulp.
@JeffDeWitt9 жыл бұрын
+Vladislov Kyzinski In earlier episodes they only showed him driving on dirt roads. That's because they were on private property as the state of California revoked his license for drunk driving. In those days you had to be a SERIOUS drunk driver to get your licence revoked, not like today.

I used to watched Dragnet and it aired from 1953 to 1957, and I do watched it back in the late 1970s, as of old reruns. Police does handcuffed the suspects behind their backs for breaking the law, such as murder, manslaughter, and assault to the innocent people. Dragnet is one of the first police drama back in the 1950s.

I caught that too. And in a 4 door. And I just have to point this out and correct the record... the 2nd '59 Chevy was NOT an Impala. It was a Biscayne. On the Biscayne models the side trim ended in the middle of the driver's door and had a Biscayne badge on the end of the rear quarter panel. On the Bel Airs the side trim ran the whole length of the body and the Bel Air badge was on the front fenders above the side trim with a small Chevrolet Bow-Tie embalm between the Bel and the Air. The Impala was car in the first robbery where the driver was killed. (Just a bit of 1959 Chevrolet trivia)

My Dad had one ugliest car ever made lol
@ctranger4 жыл бұрын
@@ACowGirlFan Well done. Back then, I remember Chevy taking great pains to differentiate it's trim lines. You could tell a top-of-the-line Impala from a base-entry-level Biscayne from far far away by the amount (or absence) of chrome. At that time, even backup lights were optional extra-cost on anything other than the Impala.

The highways were fulla psychos back in the late 50s, this show is tame compared to the harsh reality of a patrolman's life in the early days....They used their service revolvers to scratch their own, enormous balls back then.
