this is clever. a script/ play is the device in which things are restored between a father and son. both of these men live to perform and they got to do that along with making up with 1 another in spite of their flaws.

Well, there's definitely no denying that Eric was a Douglas! He had the same voice as his brother Michael Douglas! Donald O'Connor was an amazing actor! I liked him better than Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain, and I liked Gene Kelly! It's funny that Eric's character was named Rhett Clark. Donald's should've been Gable Butler. ;D May they both rest in eternal peace! ♥♥

I was surprised by some of the comments but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Unlike some of you you, I did not see a kiss that went for a long time. Nor a kiss with any sexual connotation. Some asked “what real father does that?” Or said okay only when children are small. Real fathers in some other cultures kiss their sons on the lips, their daughters, and other family members too. They do not equate everything to a sexual context. We should not evaluate everything we see against our cultural values if they differ. Just because things are different to what we may do does not mean that they are wrong.

for me it's different, but I was in Albania many years ago and I saw two grown men greet each other in a Train Station, they were obviously brothers and most likely they were Twins as they were so alike, and they kissed on the lips. Not something me and my brothers would do, or sister, but as the Man said different cultures. Just because you embrace your friend's Wife doesn't mean you are thinking bad thoughts. I try to clear my mind of thoughts when I embrace a woman other than my Wife.

Here is an alternative practice in a different culture. We don't kiss at all. We just hold hands. I held my father's hand and he held my hands, a few times in my entire life. We are not the touchy type, nor the kissy type. When we want to bond, we go eat wanton noodles at 10pm near the Kickapoo factory at Jalan Dato (Ipoh, Malaysia) at 100+ year coffee shop frequented by my father's father. We go there every weekday night on our trusty Honda C70 motorbike. And it was great.

I never was able to resolve matters with my father. He worked all of the time and was cold. Once I rewrote a family history in one short situation scene. In it, I had all of us say the things that should have been said, yet never were and in a funny way. My father hated it so much, he disinherited me.

The stories are well written and acted. Mike Landon gave a lot of old timers some good roles. The one think that I did not like was the overuse of the word " cute" to indicate rejection of a common trope. Mike could have used some other terms just to make the dialogue more realistic.

Back in the 70's in All in the Family, Archie saved the life of a drag queen in his cab. On a later episode, she was attacked and killed and it broke Edith's heart.
@frederickcombs86614 жыл бұрын
This wasn't transgenderism, it was a comedy alter ego character in a comic's act. Even in this awkward TV script it brought levity. Levity to a play, which was the vehicle for the story in a TV episode.
@nolanboles84924 жыл бұрын
And I can think of at least one famous actor who did the cross-dressing schtick for years with great success, well before this episode. (By the way, what did Jamie Farr's family think of his act?)

I don't think a man dressing in drag, which goes back earlier than the 80'S really has anything to do with transgenderism. Klinger, on MASH wore women's clothes because he wanted people to think he was crazy so he'd be kicked out of the army, and Milton Berle was known for performing in drag decades before MASH.
