I agree it's fun to see people like Brian Blessed do it occassionally but it is lovely to see a host who acts as a host and tries to get the 'contestants' to answer rather than taking over the show.
@beenaplumber83799 ай бұрын
@@rebefarfort1244 You're right, Brian B. did do that. He's like a brilliant old man with ADHD. I adore the guy, but as host, not the best. But then that explosive craziness allows his more serious roles (like Exeter in Henry V, 1989) to be so much more powerful. We know he could detonate any second!

I think the show's final video editors were a bit exclusive of Gabby's input versus four witty men. I've noticed such bias many times before when the pretty woman is just edited to be eye candy. And, unfortunately, Ian often talks over his team partner ... as does Paul, who needs to have something to say at every juncture.
@gwenmartinsen39795 жыл бұрын
I like him, but Paul talks over everybody, and interrupts to finish what someone else is saying and thus gets credit for the answer. But he has a lightening - fast mind, and is so very witty. I like Ian too.

Is SM trying to speak with an American accent, and if yes, why?
@Ana_crusis5 жыл бұрын
No, he has a west country accent, which is Rhotic like North American accents ( that means they actually pronounce the R's in words like "father" " mother" " car" etc )
@beenaplumber83799 ай бұрын
@@Ana_crusis He was also trying to emphasize sports, in the plural, as we say in the US. If Brits can have maths, we can have sports! I think the West Country pronunciation of a lot of words is very similar to the US Upper Midwest accent(s). We love our rhotic R's here in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Chicago area. We have a harsh way of pronouncing them that Americans can readily identify (and make fun of), like in the West Country. A lot of regions in the eastern US (north and south) have non-rhotic, or at least very softened R's.
@Ana_crusis9 ай бұрын
@@beenaplumber8379I have no idea where he talks about sports or what on earth you mean about it being American? He's not trying to do anything with the word sports. He's just speaking in his normal accent. "sports" is just the plural of the word. It's a perfectly normal word in English. Do you think we don't use it in British English? I have already said that some accents in Britain, like the West country accent, are rhotic. . It doesn't make it sound American at all. You would need to include a lot of other features to make it sound like an American accent. The OP has a problem placing the accent of Stephen merchant because as you can see, she is German I think. (Or maybe Scandinavian) and clearly isn't used to being able to distinguish different English accents easily. Otherwise You seem to be simply repeating what I have said. Incidentally, Linguists would not agree with you. it is generally thought that almost all American accents are rhotic with a few areas of non-rhoticity in places like New England
