That moment when Robert responds to Ian’s gibe about the tie is one of my favourite moments in the history of the recorded word.

If one were to measure the strength of a Democratic System, then the United Kingdom leads the way. Especially in view of all the Referendums held in the years since this aired. As an American it's always frustrated me that (internationally) we're rather obnoxious with how much we crow about the virtues of Democracy yet we're not so keen on Elections and the results there of...

I think referendums are idiocy. It is why the UK is now suffering Brexit. It was Cameron's gamble to have a refer. bec. he thought the vote would oppose Brexit, for polit. reasons I forget. And Californias govt spending has become cripplingly inflexble due to many votes on Propositions. Among the consequences is a devestating decline in a once fine educational system. However, after 9 yrs teaching in US university and 8 separate weeklong trips to parts of England, I think that the UK has citizens who are far more knowledgeable and able to hold intelligence conversations than the US. (Sorry to say. Of course some of my best friends are well informed and intelligent US Americans).

@@granthurlburt4062 Oh there's a definite "down side" to holding elections...what was it Churchill said about them? "Democracy is the worst form of Government...except for all the others." I think he was referring to the 1933 election in Germany but I could be wrong. In California roughly 20% ( I can't remember exactly) of the budget is controlled by the voters. "High Speed Rail" anyone?

FloraWest I think you're being very charitable. I've been watching hignfy since it began and this is the worst programme by far. Preston was about as funny gastroenteritis. Also, I wonder if that American noticed he was the only one who laughed at his 'jokes'. Not even the brilliant regulars and Rasheen could save this one from the U bend of terrible TV. Thank God this wasn't the pilot back in 1990 or this would never have been made.

Kevin Chappell Why not just watch the Canadian stuff? Or is it awful?
@chinesepeacock2294 жыл бұрын
All three countries and Australia and New Zealand have some excellent viewing; but also some REALLY bad productions. But I'd say head to head as it were the Brits do excel. But they have been doing it for well over a century.
@chinesepeacock2294 жыл бұрын
@@653j521 The more recent Canadian productions have been much improved. We used to just have two channels; so one French and one English. Of course cable came a long and we have far more latitude. Almost all the SyFy stuff.

@@653j521 The thing is, these panelists are witty, intelligent, knowledgeable, AND can occasionally come from different political backgrounds. Nothing in Canada is as quick-witted as this and CBC's political correctness wouldnt allow 80% of the jokes. I think the CBC now thinks that being witty and well-informed is elitist. The CBC recently started to show a Canadian version of Family Feud -one of the lowest IQ shows in the US. Panel shows hvent been around since the 1960's in either Canada or the US. Jon stewart is witty. Stephen Colbert ws a godsend during the Trump years but he's a little tedious now. The only humour is from Talk Shows with Colbert, Kimmel and a couple of others but their lines are pre-wrtten and the shows feature "musical" guests and actors pushing their latest movie. Frankly, after 8 visits to various parts of England, I am greatly impressed by the general knowledge for its own sake of the English I've met on trains, in museums, in pubs and AirBNB. Much higher density than in my Canada or especially, unfortunately, the US. Canadians can be pretty funny
