Now that Higurashi is over I think it's a good time for a little piece of trivia on the series development Originally, Irie was going to be the mastermind and true villain He was even supposed to be much more cruel, however, a friend of Ryukishi's who also helped in Higurashi's development thought a few things were just too horrible and also, while writing Tatarigoroshi, it just felt like Satoko didn't have many allies so Irie was rewriten to be this much kinder person who really does care for the Houjo siblings Meaning that all those times that Irie is seemingly suspicious or characters try to pin the crimes on him are Ryukishi simply referencing the character's origins and having a small laugh with it

About Irie and lobotomy. By the time Irie grew up, psychosurgery seemed to be the newest science capable of "curing" mental disorders. Irie, through his personal beliefs, chose this field as his specialty and was considered a rising star. Then opinions changed about the practice (as it should) and Irie's talents were suddenly considered amoral. Irie is no Mengele, the entire field changed after he entered medicine and this ruined his reputation.

This has been an incredible series, but I would like to really insist that the bonus arc Saikoroshi is worth your time. Plenty of the bonus arcs are, but Saikoroshi is essentially Chapter 9 in all but name. It's a short epilogue arc (about half the length of Himatsubushi) that has Rika find herself in a new world that's very unlike every world she's been to up to this point, and comes to terms with her trauma and how the series has impacted her. You'll also particularly like it if you're reading Umineko. I really do think Saikoroshi should be considered just as mandatory as the other 8 arcs, it really has no business being optional even if everything else does. Anyway, thank you and to all of your friends and coworkers so much for this series. It was really enjoyable.

01:39:00 So there's a whole version of the visual novel where Rika forgot everything and Hanyuu didn't become human. Instead, Rika needed Keiichi's help to remember the previous fragments and get the other characters to remember, too. I think this might be a holdover from that time.

Its wild that the days of me waiting for another voice acted Higurashi episode are behind me. Thank you. I really mean it. I discovered this series from your 2nd or third video, got hooked, and would do my best to avoid spoilers until you made a video. Your work into streamlining this complicated story doesnt go unnoticed. You have a life time viewer. Welp. I'm ready to finally get the answers thats taunted me for two probably almost 3 years. I'm ready to finish the fight.

Literally smack dab in the middle of watching the chapter 7 analysis when refreshing my subscription page. Awesome! Okay, watched it. These long analysis and summation videos have been a godsend for those of us that want extra info or insight into the series, but miss the more subtle elements, or aren't smart enough to really analyse the writing properly during a playthrough. You and the team have done a great job of bringing the visual novels to life in a much more informative way! Plus these are great to show friends or people that are curious, but aren't initially interested in Higurashi because all they know of is the gore compilations from early KZbin (Rika stabbing herself, etc) and assume it's just "teenagers killing each other" Death Game story. I had no idea that Ryukishi07 was a social worker initially, and that really helped make the writing appeal to a friend who fit into the above "not interested in watching teenagers dying" group, and helped them realise this really is an emotional, well-written mystery with great, endearing characters--and the excellently-done voice acting helps amp it up further. Looking forward to whatever you come up with next, Hedgehog! Also-also, every voice actor was great and deserve compliments, but I wanted to shout out Dragon specifically--he *really* struck me because over the course of the series, he's managed to start emulating Grant George from the original anime series, doing a fantastic Keiichi, almost a soundalike.

I honestly don't know what had me more hype, Akasaka coming back and being a Kung Fu Grandmaster Legend, Tomitake getting to do more then die because he was too lovestruck to look beyond his heart eyes, or the GLORY THAT IS SHION WITH A GODDAMNED MACHINE GUN ALONGSIDE FUCKIN' SHOTGUN TATSU, AKA 'THE DRAGON WITH THE SHOTGUN'. Or hell, even the awesome 'quiet' moments, like the Sonozaki family FINALLY saying 'fuck the grudge, we're DONE', and working alongside both the Club in general, and the last good cop, Ooishi, to deal with their part of the 'Conspiracy'. I'm SO damned glad I didn't spoil myself on this last chapter. It was worth every second of the wait, and while I WILL eventually dip into the later content just 'for more', as far as I'm concerned regardless, THIS incarnation of the Club gets its proper happy ending, and it's entirely thanks to the voicework of all the amazing voice cast, that they've BECOME the voices for the characters, as far as I'm concerned. (And yes, I know, I'm biased, given my name is in the end credits, but damnit, these people do amazing jobs, and this analysis wouldn't be HALF as amazing if it wasn't for the voicework going along with the Analysis)

I really do love how in many ways, this chapter was meant to give the adults in the series a time to shine. Before I even watch this last video I just kind of want to explain my own Higurashi experience. Back in 2020 I had saw clips of the anime and started watching it. I immediately got confused and stopped watching after around where the 2nd chapter ends. I eventually found your channel and started watching the analysis videos up until chapter 4 before deciding to buy the games for myself. I spent the next months reading it for a total of 155 hours. I am so happy I got to read it myself and it was still enjoyable even after watching the first 4 videos. I was crying by the end of this story and Im so happy I experienced it from the games. I genuinely wish I could have read these games when I was in high school cause it really could have helped me. It conveys such important messages in a really unique and emotional way. So thanks for the background noise because I love this analysis series, and thank you for convincing me to buy these AMAZING games. 💜

Thank you for this series! Long videos detailing on story of games/media I'm interested in are one of my favorite things to watch, and this series is definitely my favorite when it comes to Higurashi. You all did a very wonderful job with all the voices, really helping bring out the story. Definitely looking forward if you'll follow with another series done like this. I would absolutely recommend Umineko, because I think it's another masterpiece and sadly there are barely any story summaries for the game. I do get if it's too much work though, I just think many of us would enjoy it.

One thing I would like to add: in the last cutscene with the club watching the cotton float down the river, there’s a strange space between Keiichi and Satoko. I like to think that space is for us. Man I can't express how stupid it is that a bunch of little kids beat a bunch of military men's ass on a mountain and how, even as a recon unit, its just EXTREMELY embarrassing for them. It comical and is at times hard to suspend you disbelief that it could be happening, and yet its also fucking peak, its the best thing ever, I live for the ending of Higurashi. It's definitely one of my favorite stories I've ever read and You-Destructive, the song that plays when the club KICK ASS always gets me every time.

The Finale LETS GOOOO! FULL STEAM AHEAD TO UMINEKO (FULL COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS)
@Filimaua13Күн бұрын
The final chapter having gameplay feels like an intentional symbolic fourth wall break choice too. For seven chapters, we were passively reading/observing these worlds of Higurashi. Just like Rika, we merely watched the stories of tragedy occur over and over again and could do nothing about it. But now.. that has been proven wrong. Rika's resolve has been awakened and so must ours. Ryukishi literally took the phrase that's been mentioned quite alot in the story and ran with it "we can't do this alone, we need the strength of everyone." So now Rika and Ryukishi - the author is breaking the fourth wall turning to us the reader and asking US for our help to break the cycle of June 1983. And that is why the gameplay of the fragments is so important. Because its not just Rika and Hanyuu finally taking action, WE are all taking action in building this new perfect world. Ryukishi went far and beyond to portray despair and hope at its truest form. He isolated us and kept us in the dark for many of the mysteries and secrets putting us into the shoes of the characters at their lowest.. then eventually he literally welcomed us in, we became a true part of this world and the spark of hope that we can make a difference was granted to us.. thus we were finally shown the fruits of that labor. The suffering was worth it. As long as we remain together and continue to grow as empathetic people we can change the world. I love that about Ryukishi's work.

As much as I dislike Higurashi, mostly because I feel like it never reached its potential due to moments of clumsy writing, I'll never pretend that Ryukishi can't write horror, just hearing your recount the events of Takano's experience trying to escape the orphanage gave me bad heart palpitations

And so it ends. Thank you, Hedgehog, so much, for recommending this game; for insisting we, the viewers, play it; for putting so much time, thought and effort into these videos. (Your cicadas are well bred) Thank you, everyone who helped her bring it to life through music, voice acting, editing. Things have been rough, lately, in general and in the "trusting others" aspect. Stories like this remind us to keep trying anyway. Not blindly, Rinas and Takanos do exist, after all. But still. So I will hope and hold on. On the same boat with you on all the spinoffs - lack of free time aside, they all went through enough, let them rest. There is a new cast of characters to torture now. Speaking of, I've fallen out of Umineko a while ago, so waiting for your videos is not a problem. I got all your winks and nudges (except for the Greek Letters Jumpscare, must have blinked and missed it), and that's enough for now. I said it before in a previous video, but Higurashi is the single greatest essay on the Power Of Friendship I've ever seen. While I might _slightly_ disagree with some of the specific phrasing in Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi regarding the matter, it's little more than minor nitpicks. This series is a masterpiece, flaws and all. (There's no such thing as a "flawless masterpiece", that does not exist, such a thing is entirely impossible, don't @ me.) I came into Higurashi expecting a cute dating sim with maybe a few spooks here and there, got DDLC pranked with how Onikakushi goes, and by the end I was crying. This has been a fantastic series of videos, Hedgehog! I look forward to your future endeavors.

recommended console arcs if you wanna do them is: Hinamizawa Bus Stop (a prototype of Higurashi made by Ryukishi, created first before Higurashi and originally intended as a stage play so the script is written that way. It is not connected to the main story of Higurashi but it is an enjoyable story featuring an alternate timeline Rika Furude, Mion Sonozaki and a bunch of enjoyable new casts. Btw, stage play when?) Miotsukushi Matsuri / PS2 Version - it is the original Miotsukushi script without any changes made, definitely not including a globally disliked ending from Miotsukushi Omote. The Miotsukushi Chapter serves as an alternative ending to Higurashi. It picks up where Chapter 8 of Original Higurashi started and completely replaces Chapter 8 completely and imo, completes several character arcs and expands on several character dynamics and interactions that is originally subtly there and missing on the original arcs, but hey better late than never. So naturally I prefer Miotsukushi as an ending to the Higurashi experience. Buttt the OG Chapter 8 and Miotsukushi are both unique enough for you to enjoy both of them.

Hi Hedgehog, this video was AHHHH 10/0, it was so good, it broke MATHEMATICS! Honestly, I respect your decision to leave the series here. As much as I love the side stories and the sequels, I feel as though they aren't really necessary. Don't get me wrong, a lot of them are GREAT character stories and fun what-if scenarios, but you can tell that the main narrative was designed to end way before those stories. The only exception to me would be Saikoroshi, the direct epilogue for Matsuribayashi. And I say that because it's a little bit uncomfortable to imagine that Rika is mentally 100 years old or so but now has to just move on as a little girl again with the knowledge and trauma she has. And Saikoroshi is GREAT for ironing that wrinkle out of what Matsuribayashi left in. But it's not SUPER super important since you could easily head-canon your way through it without that arc. But yeah, it's been a journey. I'd only found your channel earlier this year but that didn't stop me from getting a bit choked up during the conclusion of this video. I'm frankly in love with the work and passion you put into these videos. And the group of nerds that've been here alongside are so talented and a joy to my bitter hardened soul. I feel a little bad since I've mostly enjoyed these videos as audio-only til now, so honestly I'm just gonna spend an afternoon rewatching each of these videos, they are endlessly rewatchable. Thanks a lot, til next time you're in my notifications! :)

Saikoroshi is often mixed up with all the extra arcs and tossed aside by readers, but it's a fantastic epilogue to the series, its themes, and Rika's character development. It should really be considered Arc 9. You are really missing out if you skip it. And it's actually pretty short, not a massive behemoth like the others.
