One of my french companions summarized Penance in a very consise yet accurate way. Penance is an overkill unit. She either steamrolls the stage or does absolutely nothing depending on how well you can maintain her Barrier. It's definitely fun to play around, but saying she powercreeps Mudrock despite the canyon of consistency between the two is indeed a grave mistake.

I'd say the deciding factor of Penance vs Mudrock investment is that Mud has her basic functionality at E1 while Penance NEEDS her E2 thorns trait to really get her snowball rolling

Mudrock's S2 auto and spammability is enough reason to prefer Mudrock everytime over Penance. But I'm pretty sure with Texas and Yato alt, miss-timing a durational skill will be much more forgiving because i can delete my mistakes right away with those two. I can finally say goodbye to those extra seconds i spent when clearing a stage just because someone's skill ended right before the last enemy enter their range and i need to wait longer for all that lame basic attack to finally kill it.

You can get very funky with her. Because her kit scales with HP or ATK, you can use horn or nian for either more damage or shield power. Especially nian since get an extra around 600hp + 1800 shields.
