EN lyrics with notes. Before you read any further, note that this song is written in mimicry of the style of an oriental buddhist sutra, which unlike modern japanese, are written exclusively in kanji and on top of that the kanji doesn't even mean the same thing they would in regular japanese. this forced the song to use a lot of 4 dimensional chess big brain wordplay that's pretty much exclusive to japanese and heavily relies on the listeners' understanding of buddhist concepts and terminology. these are difficult if not entirely impossible to translate fully but i've done what i can in the notes. 傀儡阿修羅 Puppet Asura [Asuras are beings in buddhism who are essentally demi-gods. They are characterised as warlike and eternally power hungry. This title is important for contextualizing the lyrics.] 死ノ際 業ハ守破離千万 At the moment of death, karma brings its countless teachings. [ "業" is the eastern buddhist equivolant to Karma, "守破離" is an ancient model of learning, it's conssists of 3 kanji that means "follow", "break" and "leave". as in follow instructions at first, then slowly break instructions to suit your own needs and habits, and finally forget the instructions altogether as you master the task and it turns into a wholistic flowing process. It took me two whole setences to explain a 3 character word. That's how dense the literary black magic fuckery is in this song, brace yourself.] 足掻ク騒擾ヨリ拝ヤ卑 From frustration and unrest come respect and obedience. [ "拝" can also be interpreted as worship, and by "can also be" i don't mean take one or the other, i mean both. ] 遺ノ埋葬ハ板ニ練炭 The burying of remnants consists of wood and coal. [ Traditional japanese buddhist burials include cremation, which is done via setting alight a structure made of planks with the body inside. "遺" can be interpreted as anything that's left over, which can either be corpses or ruins ] 暴ク構造ヨリ灰ヤ厭 From exposed cadavers came ashes and disdain / From the bare ruins come ashes and distain. [ The plain translation for "暴ク構造" is "exposed structures", which can be euphemism for a dead body, but also makes sense as the exposed internals of a collapsed building, or even an exposed social/political/economic structure. How you interpret this line depends on how you interpret "遺" from the previous line. Told you this is dense.] [ The next part consists of disjointed words that are meant to be pieced together by the audience, much like a quick-cut montage in a film. keep in mind the translation of the title when you are piecing together the scenes. ] 狼狽 躁 明白 工場 待機 災機関 Panic. Hysteria. Clarity. Factory. Standby. Anti-disaster agency. [ Anti-disaster agencies (防災機関) are in place in japan and act as prevention and response infrastructure against natural disasters. In this song the character for prevension (防) is taken out. This blurs the true meaning of the word but can still mean anti-disaster agency the same way fire departments aren't going around setting houses on fire just because it's not called anti-fire departments. ] 亞 零落明星 浅薄同等 廃棄 再帰還 Next. The fading morning star, shallow equality. Abolish. Recurring. [ "亞" means anything broadly secondary, so "next" and "also" or "and" all make sense. It's an unorthodox word choice used mainly because it can be pronounced as an exclamative "ahh" . The star likely refer to the morning star seen by Gautama Buddha at his moment of awakening, after which he claimed to have achieved enlightenment along with the rest of the universe. ] 動態 共鳴裂報道 懐疑 猜疑談 New development. divisive report. doubt. rumours. [ The literal translation for "共鳴裂報道" is "resonation breaking news report". In other words, it's divisive reporting. It's not a real japanese phrase but instead periphrasis used to fit the sutra-like style of the song. There are too many of these for me to bother pointing out individually but this is an notable example.] 亞 鋭角瞳孔 経絡同様 毎次 這帰還 Next. Slit Pupils. Same meridian. Every time. Crawling back. 見ヨ邂逅ハ如何ニ円環 behold, this never ending cycle. [ Literal translation: behold how encounters are cyclical ] 叩ク厚情ヨリ拝ヤ卑 From tough love come respect and obedience. ["叩ク厚情", another periphrasis. Literal translation is "hitting affection"] 威ノ退行ハ然ニ研鑽 The fall of grace is thus studied. [ "威ノ退行" is difficult to interpret. This is just the one that made the most sense to me.] 併ス荒唐ヨリ灰ヤ厭 From all this absuridty come ashes and distain. 蒙昧 装 計画 構想 大義 災機関 Ignrance. Pretence. Plans. Plots. Ideals. Disaster agency. [ Remember when i mentioned how "災機関" can mean both anti-disaster agency and disaster causing agency? ] 嗟 明確交渉 変革抗争 対峙 再帰還 Ahh. Negotiation. Revolution. Confrontation. Recurring. [ It's a common poetic device to write exclamation vocalizations like "ahh" as kanji that aren't meant to be pronounced as they seen. Similar to how the word "sigh" is written when character sighs. You might have seen something similar in other songs where "ahh" is written as "嗚呼". "嗟" is just a more obscure variant of that. ] 膨大 情勢蒔報道 会議 猜疑談 Escalation. Sensational report. Conference. Rumors. [ The literal translation for "情勢蒔報道 " is "situation sowing report". In other words, report that add fuel to the fire. Once again, periphrasis. ] 嗟 定格行動 低落功労 毎時 這帰還 Ahh. Stuttering motions. Declining glory. Every hour. Crawling back. 「拝!!」 Hail!! 叫喚! 復! 死骸遺!死骸遺!狂乱!X2 Scream! Again! Corpses! Corpses! Frenzy! X2 汲 烙 身 経 導 脈 傀 廊 Drain. Sear. Body. Sutra. Guide. Pulse. Puppet. Corridor. [ "汲" is exclusively to do with water, especially getting water from a well. It can be translated as "pump" or "drain" but the word itself implies no specific type of action. The CeVio Lyrics wiki mentions these kanji should be combined into groups of two, but there are so many possibilities for doing that and none of them make any more sense than the kanji as they are so I'm not bothering. ] 理ノ無イ王ハ地下ニ閉鎖 The tyrant is locked underground. 飢餓ノ形相ヨリ拝ヤ卑 From starvation comes respect and obedience. 実ノ無イ脳ハ直ニ検査 The empty brain is examined directly. 下学論争ヨリ灰ヤ厭 From disputes over common sense come ashes and distain. 招雷 問 閉殻 混同 帯磁 災機関 Thunder. Questions. Closed shells. Confusion. Magnetization. Disaster agency. [ When thunder strikes a metal object, the object becomes magnetized. Didn't think I have to bring a science lesson into this did you?] 阿 天罰上等 伝達徴用 拝跪 再帰還 Ahh, bring divine punishment. Rapture. Kneel in worship. Return. [ "伝達徴用 " is a hard one. Literally, it means "Command of drafting". Given the religious overtone of the song and the words prior I've chosen "rapture" as translation.] 常態 亡命吐放送 再起 猜疑談 As usual. Fear mongering. Once again. Rumors. [ You know the drill by now. "亡命吐放送" literally means desertion spouting broadcast. Go figure.] 阿 詠嘆強情 迷惑口糧 開示 這帰還 Ahh, stubborn and loud, feeding the confusion. Preaching. Crawling back. ["阿", same as "嗟" except you can actually pronounce that kanji as "ahh"] 「拝!!」 Hail!! 叫喚!復!死骸遺!死骸遺!狂乱!X2 Scream! Again! Corpses! Corpses! Frenzy! X2 穿テ 為音 其ノ連鎖 ! The piercing voices chain together! 灯往ク 篝撃ツ! Let there be light, through arrows aflame! 軅テ 満 其ノ聲ハ! The voices build up and fill the air ! [ "軅" is actually the erroneous form of "軈", which means "evetually". 軅 itself doesn't officially mean anything, it's just a mistake written so often it's become semi-official. Kinda like when we write "alot" to mean "a lot".] 罷喩ク 集狂ウ! Desist, gather and riot! [ The literal translation for "罷喩ク" is closer to "call it quits". ] 迎ヘ輪廻 其ノ命ハ! Embrace samsara with your life! ["輪廻" literally means cycle, and in oriental buddhism it refers specifically to samsara, the cycle of life, death and existence.] 界游ク 唯知征ク! Wander the realm and seek truth! 與ヘ 潤フ 其ノ 世ハ! In this blessed world! 変環リ 雲ク As the clouds are ever changing. [ "変環リ 雲ク" is read the same as "変わりゆく" which means "changing clouds" and "constantly changing" respectively. Yeah, it's literally a pun. I probably missed a whole ton of these in this song.] 復、息吹ク様ニ You too shall breath again. [ The literal translation is "again, like breathing", likely referring to the buddhist belief that the universe follows a pattern of undulation often metaphorically described as breathing. ] There. Tried the best I can to make this lyric comprehensible in english. The meaning and intention of the song will still depend heavily on your understanding of japanese culture, buddhist philosophy, political commentary and personal interpretation, but it should be easier now that the poetic elements are somewhat restored.

Spectacular work of translation 😭❤️makes the song so easy to understand (in the sense of being able to take it in more or less 'as is')

@@kymeruhtackmyn leaves the work to be interpreted so whether its a tiny bit better is subjective but i think this one is a tiny bit better because how shuhari isn't translated the way he did
