I have studied from St. Xavier's school, Patna. In 1993 there were four students from a minority group who refused to join their hand in morning assembly prayers, instead they did not or they did as of they were in mosque. Our Principal Fr. Lawrence Pascal issued a notice and suspended them from class. There was much hue and cry but he did not budge. His rationale was that joining hands for prayers in the name of God is an Indian culture and it has nothing to do with a specific community, though it might have come from a hindus. But at present folding hands is an Indian culture. And everyone followed after that. Rest is history. It was a missionary institute principal was Christian, students were from all community. But his stand was great. There are few people like him now.
