Thanks! I really like these food videos. It's great to hear the detail you put into them.

I have not used Hikari in nearly 40 years. Used it for goldfish back then along with lots of vegetable matter. It was the recommended thing back then. Not sure if their ingredients have changed over the years or if the competition just got better. Educational as always. Thank you.

I think the competition got better but no idea. I might have some older packets lying around somewhere but I did a clear out last year as had some which expired maybe 5 or more years ago.

I use two Hikari products, their micro wafers and tubifex worms. I have dojo loach that loves the wafers for some reason, and their tubifex worms stick to the glass without falling apart better than some other brands I tried.

I think I've used the microwafers, they certainly are popular with many of the loaches and bottom dwelling fishes.

think a main thing for fish keepers is to know what foods are bio available to them and what's not , anything else just contributes to aquarium pollution and passes through the fish unutilised ,

I agree, there is so much which likely isn't bioavailable in a lot of commercial diets.

Hikari gold could potentially have 7 main ingredients, more or less equally proportioned. Atleast 5 ingredients with potential to cause damage. So could be 70% or higher garbage ingredients. It's a poor quality food that benefits from good branding. It's sketchy how the pellets don't breakdown when left in the tank. They just expand into a plastic foam sort of texture. Pretty sure Hikari gold caused an intestinal blockage in a severum I used to have several years ago. Have been boycotting Hikari ever since.

I totally agree, I assume fish meal is still pretty high but the amount of cereal crops kind of makes them probably most of the diet. I'm not surprised it caused a blockage but only by assumption from that many cereals.

What would you suggest as a good growth type food for bristle nose placos/ anieas?

Its not focusing because you are up too close with your camera, which does not have to be because the packaging is perfectly legible from further out. I have not used cichlid gold before but the number one fish food for me is hikari's discus bio gold. I keep altums and panda uarus and they are really fussy feeders . Hikari Discus bio gold is for me the most palatable fish food for these fish, bar none. No point in a hyped up fish food when the fish detest them like poison. In that category I have new life spectrum fish foods which is the absolute champion of yukkiest fish food.
