Thing about anish's team Alaskan Knights is their board 3 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and board 6 Nihal sarin specialise in Rapid and Blitz so they're gonna do really well in my opinion and as we all know nodirbek has been most consistent top player out there in every tournament. So for me This team is the favourite to win.

It seems very odd that Lagno can play and Grischuk, her husband, cannot, because of Visa issues. Good assessment of each team's likelihood of success. I think Magnus' team generally don't do well playing with him, although it is not due to weakness in his own play, and so might favor the Triveni Continental Kings more than the Alpine Sg Pipers.

While I don’t support Russia, the Russian chess players did nothing wrong and are only being punished because of the current political climate. Hikaru essentially started his professional career playing in a handful of events within a few months of the US invading Iraq (no WMDs found in 9 years, the claim for invasion). I support him one way or another because he is clearly a good guy, however, if he was held to the same standard, no US chess player would ever have a career if we account for proxy wars and ‘interventions’. Downvote me all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that, if we simply consider logic in this situation, it’s a hypocritical viewpoint based solely upon political ideology.

The players are allowed to play. The visas are not given by the UK government. That's the government's decision. Similar reason why Chelsea owner had to sell his club. So, I guess, all sports and everything is compromised. In FIDE, Russia was not allowed since it was a country level competition but the Russian players were allowed if they played under different flags or even neutral flags. Now, that you can argue against if you like, but Global Chess League and Russians participation are visa related.
