Mine was a Maleficar who did what was necessary and killed anyone who got in her way. She didn't really care what people said about her afterwards. Something I like about the Grey Wardens actually (even if it was almost their undoing) is their willingness to do anything to win. Help Apostates? No problem. Become literal Maleficar? Blood Magic is a powerful tool. Summon Demons? If it works. In a world so dominated by the Chantry they're a welcome bastion of pragmatism.
@castillogrande89266 жыл бұрын
@@lynxfirenze4994 as much as I agree, I think they also show the danger of pragmatism as well, from how they are shown from heroes in DAO, as a bit darker in DA2, and as a danger to the world AND to themselves in DAI. @lynxfirenze49946 жыл бұрын
@@castillogrande8926 yeah I agree with you that they went too far. They were booted from Fereldan for a reason after all. But by the standards of Thedas they're pretty up there. I mean you've got the Chantry who are imho 90% at fault for Inquisition and the subsequent fall of the Wardens and they're just a theocracy that cares more about doctrine than common sense so ground the mages down and essentially dared them to rebel. Though I do like that the main thing that really caused Corypheus to rise is that the Wardens hadn't made a note of the point that he could possess a Warden or Darkspawn like an Archdemon but with the ability to survive possession of a warden (or just didn't know) so when he finally got loose from the bindings they'd slapped on him he escaped despite Hawke potentially killing him.

I can't escape the image of a warden standing upon the walls of Adamant. To see that massive army before the walls and know they are here to fight you. The warden may have felt angry. They were being betrayed by those they had sworn to protect and by people Wardens had died defending. They may have felt doubt. Were they really doing the right thing if these people had come to fight them.
@Pro_Butcher_Amateur_Human9 жыл бұрын
It's the same for me. That's why I really like the History Knowledge Perk to convince the Warden's to stand down towards the end of the mission. You tell them that the world has not forgotten their sacrifice, and that you would never stand against them if you did not know they were being manipulated.

@EmporerAaron8 жыл бұрын
James Bennett Yeah, which brings a darker question into play. So these first darkspawn have similar abilities to Archdemons. Ability to transfer its soul into a being with the taint to survive, Corypheus showed his ability to mimic the calling to trick the wardens. And this is just one of the First Darkspawns, not counting the powers of the Architect. So that brings the question where are the other 5 (or 6 if there really is a 8th old god)

I mean the grey wardens west of the Anderfels and the ones in Rivain and Nevarra didnt even help the hero of Ferelden so go figure its a big plot hole tho how a organization that rivaled that of the inquisition in the time of the first blight has just disappeared its my theory that they crossed the amaranthine ocean or lie at its depths because even though this song dosent show ungratefulness Thedas always blames the wardens when they arent in a blight yet in a blight they beg i would leave thedas to die too after thousands of years of resentment and misguided distrust of my friends who saved the world atleast 5 times
@MidoriGa95 Жыл бұрын
@@samuraigaming3042 I prefer to think that if the HoF survived the blight (not sacrifice themself) then probably they went to those regions to seek whatever they wanted and needed at the time of Inquisition happened. If the Architect was spared in your playthrough then perhaps he did something to those other wardens and made them disappear for some reason. For the reason why these wardens didnt help HoF is due to time; It'd take their nearest allies, from Orlais, weeks to arrive and by that time Duncan knew Ferelden would be doomed. With the failed letter from King Maric to arrive to Empress Celene only made the Orlais thought Ferelden really didnt need their help. So when the nearest allies couldnt help in time then of course the rest of the wardens from other regions wouldnt be able to provide any help too even if they wanted to

shitting on the grey wardens is just a setup for the next game, or the one after that. Probably goes something like the wardens are no more, or are in an even worse shape then in inquisition, and a new blight is starting, and you are a new recruit/person redescovering the wardens, and you find a way to hatch the griffon eggs (it was set up in novels, i think) and ride a griffon against an Archdemon
EA is playing all of their "Saving the world" cards really fast, First against the 5th blight. Then against the tears in the fade. What could they do next? Besides using the archdemon card again? Because i'd much rather have a new threat then fighting the same one again.

Well we already know who the next enemy is and where the game will be centered. The next game will still b focused on the Inquisition, with the new enemy being Solas. Solas plans to rip apart the veil and returnt he world to it's former state and raise up the elves. The next focus will also be Tevinter. We see all this at the end of Trespasser. Oh but there is one last potential enemy bioware can still throw that hasn't gotten a lot of focus and we know very little about, The titans... We find out quite a bit of the titans in Inquisition and even see that they still exist, in a dormant slumbering state. We also see that dwarves apparently CAN use magic... when in tun eand close proximity to the titan. This raises many questions about the nature of the dwarves, lyrium (aka titan blood), and the origin of the blight.

Some fans think the Grey Wardens were being deliberately destroyed in the sequels, due to the actions some of them make in II and Inquisition. But let's not forget that in Origins you find out about the Warden Sophia Dryden ordering the Warden mage Avernus to perform blood magic to summon demons during the siege of Soldier's Peak against King Arland Theirin's army in the name of survival. And Avernus himself was performing sick experiments on his fellow Grey Wardens to conduct research on the Taint by using their blood. And, before that, in the book The Calling there are Grey Wardens that conspired with the Architect, along with First Enchanter Remille, to spread the darkspawn taint through enchantments across Orlais, and eventually all of Thedas, as part of a plan to supposedly end the remaining blights. And long before that, during the Fourth Blight, a Grey Warden mage named Isseya created a modified version of the Joining, by using blood magic, to make the griffons immune to the darkspawn taint just like the Wardens. It worked, however the griffons became sick as a result, which eventually resulted in their extinction. And some fans still think the Grey Wardens are just amazing? Oh no. Many of them were and are corrupt, just as Templars and Circle Mages can be.

But that same love left us Grey Warden fans heartbroken as we finally saw that The Grey Wardens finally went too far and nearly destroyed everything they've worked for by nearly letting a prime Darkspawn control them in his quest to resume his prior work of blasphemy upon entering the Black City This song represents our asking, hoping that The Grey Wardens can redeem themselves of that terrible mistake before it's too late

You either die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain. Assuming that every single Grey Warden is a perfect being who can't do wrong on purpose is childish. Just like there are good cops and bad cops, there are different kinds of Wardens. I'm sure there are dozens of those who never even wanted to be Wardens and were forcefully conscripted, or simply used it as a chance to avoid punishment for their deeds. The Grey Wardens of Orlais screwed up and almost destroyed the nation. They are no longer welcomed. Which doesn't mean that EVERY Warden isn't - for instance, Alistair and Co. are quite trustworthy and I'm sure they'd be accepted.

They're supposed to be the people who do the dirty work no one else can. Sure, they can be good people, and go about it in an ethical way, but when you're already willing to sacrifice everything to fight the darkspawn, it doesn't take much for you to sacrifice a lot more. What's bad is that I kind of agree with the Warden's idea of killing the last two Archdemons. By all accounts, they would be preventing two Blights, and saving thousands of lives. I just don't agree with the whole summoning demons and reckless blood magic thing.

I imagine a singular warden after this joining the inquisition (assuming they weren't banished) hanging out with those that had disagreed with the choice to keep them and struggling to keep going, knowing he had partaken in that mess. feeling responsible and possibly contemplating suicide at times as a weird way to "make up" for his horrible mistake. listening to solas mainly about how stupid the decision was, thinking he had forsaken the world despite just trying to good, still wanting to stand by the ideal of the grey wardens self sacrificing he gets his armor reforged, holding no insignia on it of any specific army, but keeping a grey warden medal to remind him of what he has to really make up for. endings to his story could include: 1. suicide, due to taking too much he decides to plunge his sword into himself. "the last warden's blood that blade shall taste" 2. joining the inquisition, due to being supported he forsakes the wardens and joins the inquisition. "the wardens.. failed, the inquisition won't" 3. being his own, freelance soldier, due to him being taken away from suicide, he ends up deciding to forsake groups almost entirely, will still help, but on his own ideals. "groups can be corrupt, can corrupt those in it. I will fight for you, if you stay just only" 4. dying in battle, regardless if he joins or not, he fought and died, still feeling heavy guilt. "I'm sorry.. Thedas.. forgive me" could think of a templar who believes similarly, but didn't take the red lyrium

I imagine an older, tired Hero of Fereldan listening to this in a tavern over a pint of ale, and somberly remembering everything they've done. All their choices, mistakes, regrets. Why even fight when your own soldiers have fallen? But then they remember their task: to end the Calling. And so they pay for their drink, and walk out, spurred onwards.

A very beautiful yet sad song. Very fitting to the context if you had played DA:I. Grey Wardens, most noble and heroic order of warriors in the world, who dedicated themselves to protection of innocents from a terrifying evil force, betray their principles out of desperation and commit terrible crimes, ruining their reputation. Lyrics here express the reproach and disappointment the people have against the Grey Wardens, as if saying; "You were supposed to protect us, how could you fall this hard?" Not with anger but with sadness. Tragic part is, Grey Wardens did it to uphold their oath and duty, not because of selfish reasons. Typical case of "Die as a hero or live long enough to see yourself turn into a villain."

( This is a Roleplay-like Tale, if you don't like Roleplays than move on to another comment.) Silently, you sat silently as you would be hidden in your black cloak, face hidden behind shadows as the Bard began to sing Oh, Grey Warden. Tears of outrage dripped down your face. You had sacrificed your whole life, your family, your loved ones, for the Grey Wardens... How could they defy the people you saved? Lowering your gaze unsteadily to the empty mug in your grasp, you listened in on the female bard's words.. "Ally or foe, Maker only knows, ally or foe Maker only knows.." She sang as she held her hands together, looking down to the crackling fire not too far from you. "Oh Grey Warden, what have you done, the oath you have taken is all but broken.." She said, her voice taunting. Teasing. As if she wanted to shatter your hard work in a simple melody. You listened to the song before slamming your mug onto the table you were on, slamming your chair back, you shot up, glaring at the young lass. "I've had enough of your lies." You snapped through tears, had they forgotten what you did? "Please, dear, calm down..!" The Barkeeper called wearily as he looked up to you, eyes wide. "Can you be forgiven, when the cold grey has come?" The bard would whisper. Her voice forcing the memory of Duncan's death into your mind... Having enough, you snarled, throwing your cloak off your head as you screamed "I am the Hero of Fereldan! You dare lie about my people?!" The men and women of the tavern widened their eyes at the sudden reveal. You drew your blade slowly, the noise of metal faint against the crackling of fire. "Or will the battle rage on?"

A mini story that appeared in my mind as I heard this song... ;-; I can only imagine the Hero of Fereldan so heartbroken when this tavern melody begins ;~; And how outraged he/she is until she's had enough and threatens death upon the bard.

You deserve more likes for this. Seriously, this is awesome. Any time I hear this song I picture a scene similar to this. My Warden trying to relax in an inn, only recently hearing about the incidents at Adamant, and hearing this song for the first time. I can never decide if she would be too devastated to do anything or just beat everyone up. Anyway, thanks for writing that! It was a good read, even if it broke my heart a little bit x)

***** I'm sorry but this shows how much you DIDN'T understand the plot of the wardens. Them being terrified is not because they feared for their lives, it was the fear that they thought all of them was going to die and nobody was going to be left to fight the blight when it comes. That's the whole reason they are creating the demon army in the first place dude... -_- Paying attention creates wonders you know...
@ahmetmoron71369 жыл бұрын
***** What you said means that they were afraid for THEMSELVES. What I said shows that you are WRONG and it shows that they fear for the world being without being grey wardens. Which shows that they don't care for themselves but for the world as they should, since they are grey wardens. Enjoy and try paying attention yourself next time.
@almaaa959 жыл бұрын
***** hmm..I get what your saying but wouldn't you say they were manipulated by the Tevinter Magister more specifically the Warden-Commander of Orlais pretty much the highest rank among warden's order in Orlais so she is the one to blame. she is the one who gave the orders to do the ritual, also if any warden objected they were marked as traitors then they were exiled. so when they performed the ritual the wardens became immediately slaves to corypheus. they started killing each other, and chaos started. therefore i think she is the only one even if despaired is to blame.

Dalish Elf would die a slow and painful death without Duncan. City Elf would be hanged if not for Duncan. Mage human/elf would be imprisoned in Aeonar(mage prison) or turned into a tranquil without Duncan. Dwarf Noble would die in the deep roads without Duncan, or go mad like Ruck. Dwarf Commoner would starve to death like we see happens if she was not chosen as the Warden if not for Duncan.
