Hike and Spear Far South Coast NSW Pt 2 Spearfishing Survival Australia

Spearfishing Survival in New South Wales Australia. This time we are hiking and camping along the far south coast of NSW for some catch and cook spearfishing goodness.
Using my spearfishing and foraging skills to provide myself food over the 3 days. Sadly the trip was hit by covid restrictions so i didnt even get a chance to use the miso paste.
This is part 2 of 3. A 3 day hike and spear trip over some of my favourite coast line in Australia but lots of this trip will be my first time exploring. On this trip all I have with me is 6 Litres of water, Soy, Wasabi, Salt, Pepper, Chilli Flakes, Wet Mammal Fish Crumb Mix, Miso Soup Paste and 1 Kendal Mint Cake (for sugar) and some Cooking Oil.
Exposure to the sun, intense hills and carrying just under 30kg over long Sandy Beaches, dehydration and the cold all made this trip very fun. This time i found myself hiking and rock climbing in the dark whilst wet and cold. I finished this trip already with the intention to do another! Already have the next hike and spear planned im just waiting on restrictions to ease to get back out there.

All fish were of legal size and were speared for consumption, I have a NSW Fishing Licence and abide by catch size limits, daily takes and no fish zones. Over the past 5 years now I have made the commitment to no longer buy fish, so I only eat the fish i catch. Spearfishing is the most sustainable form of fishing on the planet, it is also the most environmentally friendly form of fishing.

With the abs try using an old tea towl. Put ab meat inside, find big rock, smash ab (good way to reduce stress). Cut thin, cook quick over heat. Add soy sauce and chilli.

Haha yes! Man i love cooking abs and typically do something similar but i grab a big rock. Love my ab pastas and stir fry :)

Smash fishing does a lot of abalone and bashes to tenderise every time so try that next time.

Yeah definitely the go next time, i usually bash and make burgers or slice thin for pasta or stir fry

Good stuff mate, I'm the same I'll eat the head juice in fresh seafood, try the abalone gut it's basically mashed up seaweed it's got a good flavour, probably best cooked at home in butter with some thinly sliced ab for max 30 seconds

Mate what a haul! Great tip to take abs with your hands and mark fins up to measure. I'm going to do that to my fins right now haha

Thanks man, yeah a good feed hey, If you dont want to carry around an Ab tool its a great way to get them, just need to make sure you do get under the suction pad. Pulling the shell will almost always deshell the ab. Marking your find is great i have markings for every 5cm and special marks for crayd and abs

slice your ab up thin after you cut the black foot off. pound with mallet. bread in panko and fry. will be more tender than your lobster. boil ab. get lockjaw from eating rubber.
