Badlands National Park - one of my favorites that my daughter and I visited in the summer of 2017. We were there for the eclipse. We did two great hikes (Notch and Castle Loop Trails) and were able to get some great footage of the beautiful formations. We also made a brief stop at Wall Drug.

Randy, it has been 45 years in June since I visited the Badlands, probably overdue for a return trip - you video inspires me to do so. A strange beauty in those piles of mud, at least that is what I remember. If you drive cross country to this location there must be hundreds of signs for Wall Drug, which goes hand-in-hand with the Badlands (something Kayla will always remember). I camped in a tent there too - the evening was very windy for me as well and the morning was calm, cool and amazing. THANKS FOR TAKING US ON THE HIKES, . . . Mike

Hey, Wall Drug is unique as well, if a tourist trap. We like to eat breakfast there before hiking the Badlands. Wish you had shown the eclipse. We were on the Door Trail for the eclipse. Yes, the colors make this place especially beautiful and unique! It's really unlike any other place I've visited. As for Minuteman, we went there and I'm currently working on that video. Just curious..I don't know if you will even see this on a two year old vid, but you said this was one of your favorite National Parks and really talked up the beauty, but when you visited Teddy Roosevelt National Park which has even more diverse vegetation, colors and topography..(it even has a river and is has lush vegetation compared to the dry brown sage prarie with no trees in BL)..you both downplayed it, and said the scenery was "repetitive"...I was just wondering what made you feel so differently about TR vs BL? I respect your opinion, but I don't really understand it 🤷‍♂️ They seem so similar to me, and TR actually seems less repetitive and diverse in just about every way...
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 4 жыл бұрын
Yikes, Dwayne, making this old mind go back to 2017! lol! From what I can recall, you make an excellent point. Sometimes our opinion is less objective and more subjective pertaining to the experience. So many good memories at the Badlands. But yes, TR I'd agree has more diversity with the greener vegetation, wildlife and waterways. Take care!

@@AmericasParks sorry for the following long post.. That is very understandable...I also think that variable things..for example the weather, or aggravation finding a campsite, or if you have had a stressful time just getting to a place, or how you feel physically or emotionally at the time of visit...really affect perception. We visited Windcave and Badlands NPs in 2011 at the tail end of a 16 day trip we took with our three teenagers. We drove from our home in Alabama to Colorado to Rocky Mountain NP, and then on to Grand Tetons NP for three days, and then from there to Yellowstone for three days before heading back home via Devils Tower and the Black Hills region....needless to say, after visiting RMNP, GTNP and Yellowstone, the beautiful Black Hills region parks just kind of underwhelmed us..which in retrospect was my fault for how we planned our trip. If I had it to do over again I would plan that trip in the reverse order. Now I can't wait to revisit Badlands and Wind Cave and really enjoy them for what they are.
