I couldn’t believe how deep into the lakes I could see!

Have you had the chance to go to Skaneateles Lake Syracuse? I'm not sure about the hiking trails, but you can see the bottom ofthe lake 20 feet out from shore. There's a Doug's Fish Fry in the center of Skaneateles, or they used to be. Good Haddock. Good price. Then there's Beaver Lake Nature trails and Higland Forest. Those were nice back then also. Subbed and belled ya. BTW, Green Lakes is a lot of fun. The Erie Cannal is right across from the Green Lake gates. A bunch of posion ivy, but as long as you know what to look for, it's fun to see the old locks also.

So actually these reefs are not made by coral! That is what happens in the oceans, coral are actually little animals. These reefs are the result of a reaction of certain bacteria in the lakes and the many minerals in the water since the source of the water is mostly from underground. Its a very unique phenomena.

@@AdamHoyt well I'll be, learned something new. You just associate words Reef with Coral. But mind you this led to a 20 minute read on the formation of the lake and surrounding area. A great vlog and thank you for the additional information Adam. Appreciated. 👍

@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling yes as I was making the video I had to go back in and re-record the voice over when I noticed I said coral reef and redid I it to make sure I just said a reef haha. When you do the hike they have tons of informational signs about the unique geology and happenings of the lakes to read as well.

I grew up a mile or two from these lakes. They are amazing and apparently quite deep and steep sided under the water. The reef has unusual rock formations, almost bubbly looking. At that point there are small springs feeding fresh water into the lake. I think there is some reaction or bacterial thing happening that builds those formations. I remember sitting in that shallow water on a hot day.

That's so cool. They were some of the most unique lakes I had ever visited in my life. I saw the bacterial reefs that you talked about. Glad I could help you relive such nice memories.

I go there frequently and in all seasons. Besides the lake trails, there are loads of trails in the forest and the fields. So easy to access.

Very nice. however. If you are looking for elevation you can continue past the smaller lake to several elevated trails.

Are dogs allowed.in parks. You know how NY is...
@AdamHoyt Жыл бұрын
I do not have a dog myself and do not usually make these videos with dog issues in mind. But the NY state park website seems to indicate that dogs are allowed at Green lakes on leashes. parks.ny.gov/parks/greenlakes/details.aspx
