This is near or in the Imperial Valley, California. It's 50 miles west of Yuma, Arizona, and 20 miles north of Mexicali, Mexico. I was born and raised there. It sucks balls! It can get about 120 degrees in the summer and 90's at night. I don't understand anyone hiking in the desert. The sky is beautiful to behold at night, tho.

@@stevenalban4441 Do you also feel sorry for the people that get close to Bison at Yellowstone to take a photo or ignore the warnings to stay on the boardwalks? There are warnings everywhere. People that ignore the rules tend to spoil things for everyone. Places get closed or access limited because people can't follow basic safety rules. That's why we have to have warnings for sunshades like "Don't drive with the sunshade in place". Would you hike in 112 degrees? If so, I can understand your response.

@johndeere3486 the difference between preventable. These hikers were not prepared to hike in this kind of weather. Rescue crews should be rescuing people for unforseen circumstances like breaking their limbs or rattlesnake bite etc.

If hiking is necessary, salt may be taken by mouth, from a salt shaker over the tongue or clear rock salt as salt tablets, or in solution with baking soda. A back pack canopy may be improvised from two sticks, preferably flexible, placed one in each side of the pack, a shirt and some string to bend the canopy over the head.
