HARDLY "insanely heroic." It's qualifies as heroic, but just barely. It's their job, and they chose that job because of the excitement and adventure... and to help people too, but there are plenty of other ways to help people, so it's not like they never signed up for it. They are heroic like soldiers are heroic going into battle. But "insanely" heroic? That's when a random guy who is walking down the sidewalk sees a house on fire, fully engulfed, and runs into it to save it's occupants. THAT is insanely heroic.

Veteran and former volunteer firefighter here, please stop overusing the word "Hero", they are doing their job, yes they are badasses, yes their job includes certain risks, but not every helper or first responder is a hero. If you know what you are doing, it's just hot. If you do not know what you are doing, or you're an idiot, then it can be lethal. We had to "rescue" a crew member who perpetually refuse to carry more than a liter of water. I carried four, and so did most of the rest of the crew. One appalling day we began to run out of water before noon. Our fellow crew member was far gone. We decided to just call it for the day. It was far too hot to survey. We scavenged up enough water to given him a few mouthfuls, which left the rest of us really short. The crew chief and I dragged the idiot out of the canyon. He was fired that evening after we explained to the field director just how bad his behaviour was.
