HARDLY "insanely heroic." It's qualifies as heroic, but just barely. It's their job, and they chose that job because of the excitement and adventure... and to help people too, but there are plenty of other ways to help people, so it's not like they never signed up for it. They are heroic like soldiers are heroic going into battle. But "insanely" heroic? That's when a random guy who is walking down the sidewalk sees a house on fire, fully engulfed, and runs into it to save it's occupants. THAT is insanely heroic.

Veteran and former volunteer firefighter here, please stop overusing the word "Hero", they are doing their job, yes they are badasses, yes their job includes certain risks, but not every helper or first responder is a hero. Americans abuse the crap out of that word, and it diminishes the acts of true heroes.

If you know what you are doing, it's just hot. If you do not know what you are doing, or you're an idiot, then it can be lethal. We had to "rescue" a crew member who perpetually refuse to carry more than a liter of water. I carried four, and so did most of the rest of the crew. One appalling day we began to run out of water before noon. Our fellow crew member was far gone. We decided to just call it for the day. It was far too hot to survey. We scavenged up enough water to given him a few mouthfuls, which left the rest of us really short. The crew chief and I dragged the idiot out of the canyon. He was fired that evening after we explained to the field director just how bad his behaviour was.

that helicopter ride wont be free. Over 20 grand for a helicopter ride. But the REAL problem is I would not be surprised if the young lady survives. No updates. Looked like heat stroke to me. if she makes it, it will be life changing. probable brain damage. Really foolish to do a hike like that right now. I work in the heat and with constant water intake it is not enough. YOu need a wet head at all times, Large brim hat, cooling towel around your neck wet all the time. and keep maintaining it to prevent heat exhaustion. I have employees that think they know better and get schooled every time. I have a evaporation hat on all the time. and I never let it totally dry out. Look at the Arabic guys they have a turban on their heads that is evaporating all day long.

Many people ignore the signs of oncoming heat exhaustion until it's too late. By that point it's a really fast downward slope to full blown heat stroke. If you're starting to get thirsty and feel like you have a slight headache, it's already starting. It takes a while to recover from as well. Hope these people are ok.

@@kristenmichelle8152 Paying for expenses caused by your own negligence and/or stupidity is not punishment. It is karma or Newton's first law, or Darwinian evolution. If you drop your phone, you pay for it (or the insurance that you paid for). If you pump diesel into your car's gas tank, you pay to drain it or replace the engine. Been here in Joshua Tree for 21 years this year. You would not believe how incredibly dumb and naive people are about the heat and how much water they should have. Hiking in temps over 100° is insanity.

Hikers without proper preparation! Check the weather before any outdoor activities! I joined a group tour to hike, with the help of camel 🐪 ride to the 2 small churches on Moses mountain at the Sinai peninsula, Egypt in September 2021. All hike started at midnight with Bedouin guides, it's a spiritual journey. Most hikers reach the top by 4am, after sunrise, people started to decent slowly by 7am. There are no trees on the mountain, i can feel the heat by 9am when we reach the bottom.

If it's 90 degrees by 10am- Don't risk being out past noon. Plan accordingly.

They have no business being out in the middle of bum-f=Egypt this time of year... or any time of the year, for that matter. Those hills are like a maze. You can clearly tell this person is very inexperienced and naive

Why did they think it was a good idea to go hiking in triple-digit temperatures? Silly people.

Anyone that needs rescuing from anywhere, unless by an act of nature, they need a big fine to help pay for the rescue and deture others from being stupid.
