I always take a whistle and a survival bag. The Osprey rucksack I have actually has a "built in whistle" on the clasp/strap that goes across the chest so that means you don't have to carry an actual, separate whistle, but handy to have to attract attention!! The survival bag was recommended to me when I did a 5-peak challenge in the Lake District a few years back I've never had to use either, but handy to know they are there in case required. The survival bag is useful to keep warm 😊

Hi Colin, like a first aid kit one small thing to add to you bag would be some tubigrip or sticky support bandage and small scissors. These can help if you start to get a niggle on a long hike and allow you to finish the walk with minimal discomfort

Great video with some great gear! For me, it's got to me merino (howies are the best) wool for base layers and socks. Looking forward to the mid week show ❤

I find having a good OS map to chuck on the floor to do the planning works. Big picture thing. Then I do the free download you get from buying the paper one to the phone for the walk. Uncheap but works lovely for us. I think the OS map app is 35 squid a year. No big papery thing though. Thanks for posting this.

Some sound advice here 👏. As a cyclist you may have heard of Galibier, if not their winter gloves are toasty. I've found Decathlon kit to be very reasonable and not far from you in Leeds. Also some great kit from a British brand called Alpkit, you even get money rewards for leaving reviews on kit purchases. I believe Montane is a British company 😉

Another great video Colin, pretty much nailed everything nicely. My only suggestion would be to maybe include a Canoe Sack for your spare dry kit in your daysack. A Canoe Sack would give you complete peace of mind if you were ever caught in a biblical downpour (aka every time you head out for a walk 😂) as even though daysacks are great at keeping your contents dry, persistent heavy rain will always find a way into your bag. Nothing worse than a wet day on the trails and stopping to find you have a soggy jacket to put on when you're already cold and wet. Keep up the great content mate and maybe see you on the hills in the future. Best, Jim 🤙

Some really great gear there. I love walking as appreciate it costs a few pounds to get going but most gear lasts a long time and you can start out really cost effectively and compared to things like vanlife, it gives so much enjoyment for so little monetary investment doesn’t it - I’m going to try and get out more in 2025! Have a lovely weekend, all the very best, David 👍

A first aid kit with a thermal blanket n life shelter is a must in winter I was on a walk in Snowdon the weather changed without any warning my mate slipped n fractured her ankle well not paying attention to where she stepped as she was putting her coat on, honestly it felt like the longest 2 hours sat in the snow getting blasted by a strong icy wind she ended up with hyperthermia. Now I don't leave the house without a firestarter kit, first aid kit with a life shelter they're bright orange will help with mountain rescue n foil for warmth. Takes up hardly any room but makes a massive difference when you need it.

I think you're right about the trousers but I think foot wear and waterproofs you get what you pay for

Colin thanks great video with helpful tips some of your suggestions I would absolutely agree with your points as I have the same makes in boots and coats although at the end of the day you do get what you pay for. I do have a range of hats given I have little hair🤣🤣 and I find buffs very good. I also liked some of the suggestions from your subscribers.

Would love to see detailed review of back pack. Find it hard to get one that stores enough hiking gear and cameras . I tend to have one on a strap and store rest in rucksack in smaller camera bags.

Great Colin. Yeah good point on bright clothing can be applicable to all situations. The number of cyclists I see on the roads on high end bikes in dull conditions all in black and no lights beggars belief. I am a cyclist myself and value my life more than to do that. Keep up the entertaining vids mate👍

Friday morning treat, early video. Agree with you on old clothing, become your old pal. Like scants. Best walking trousers I’ve found are Craghopper classic, nice and stretchy. Just buy a size up though. Boots- Berghaus Men's Hillmaster Ii GTX Tech. Never failed me. Hate wet feet. And not silly money. Best socks to me are Bridgedale, you get various weight depending on the time of year, plus length. Defo layering (onions have layers). I’ve never found gloves to stay waterproof, even gortex. I just find that in heavy rain the water just runs off the jacket arms and the gloves slowly get wetter and wetter. Best purchase lately is Rab Infinity Microlight, windproof, Gortex. So cosy and you feel as though you’re wearing no jacket. Powerbanks are SOOO important, always carry one fully charged just in case you need to charge your phone!, ‘hello air ambulance’. True. Oh, set up at home looks great. HD video quality?

You do opposite to me. Be bold, start cold. I wear a base layer and my Rab Vapour rise jacket and start cold and then build up body heat. I virtually never add a layer unless it rains and I need my Rab Gore Tex jacket one

Hey Col, I’ve been eyeballing those hiking trousers on Amazon for a while… they do a fleece lined and normal trousers. Have you tried the fleece lined? Is so are they any good? I have some other fleece lined winter trousers but they are bloody boiling, massive and make me look like a 90’s Wu Tang Clan fan which is not really the look I’m going for as a metaller. I normally wear skinny jeans so would prefer something a bit less baggy and those seem to be ticking to box so far but I’m torn which to get for the time being.
@YorkshirepoptopadventuresАй бұрын
Hey buddy, they fit me really well (I just went for medium and I am 32 inch waist and 34 inch leg) Not tried the fleece lined ones yet, but I will get some and update in a future video.
