I made that hike in October and it took me about 5 hours round trip. The views were amazing, such a beautiful place. I plan on going back this October with my son. I cant wait!! Ohhhhhh and INSANE that you made it up there in just over an hour. You must be in amazing shape. Great video, I really enjoyed it.

Hi Carlos, yes the hike up Guadalupe Peak is really beautiful. It was my first substantial hike after I moved to Texas, and I have done it 5 times. I was in pretty good shape, but not so much anymore. Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you will have a great trip with your son.

Thanks so much for all your Guadalupe Mountains videos! They inspired me and my 67 yr old dad to make the trip. We spent 3 days, 3 nights there and did Guad Peak and Hunter Peak. Incredible experience! We are in really good shape, but it was still more of a challenge than we expected...which made it even more worthwhile! (for anyone thinking about making the trip...we thought the Hunter Peak hike was arguably better overall than Guad Peak...stunning views).

Hi AWCgaming, you're welcome, and thanks for watching them. I'm glad you got to make the trip, and it sounds like you both had a good time. I think the rockiness of the trails and terrain takes it out of you more than you realize. It is rewarding to finally make it to the top. Hunter Peak does have great views. I've only been up there once, but I remember it being pretty awesome. Hopefully you can make it out there again soon.

@@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer Yes, the rocky terrain was the toughest part for us! We went DOWN Bear Canyon at the end of one day and that was probably where we got beat up the most out of the entire trip. It was a cool area though. Thanks again!

@@AWCgaming you're welcome. Bear Canyon is really neat, and from what I've seen not crowded at all. It does beat you up on the way down.

First video I've seen that breaks down some of the obstacles you'll encounter on this hike. Taking my elderly father in a few months and this really helped to gauge whether he would be capable of doing it. Thanks!

Hi AWCgaming, you're welcome, and I'm glad it helps you out. If you have good weather conditions it will be easier, but hopefully the hike will work out for you. Most of it is a pretty rocky trail, and it can wear you out faster than something smoother. Plus the potential for slipping is greater with all the loose rock.

And you are totally right about the view coming in from the West being spectacular. First time I saw it as a teenager was from the highway out of El Paso. It was breathtaking and there was a humongous wall cloud to the east of it, which was cool.
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think that is an amazing view with the range rising out of the desert. The clouds would probably make it look even better.

I like the drive from Van Horn up to GNP. It's away from the oil field work going on to the east of the park. Need to check out the mountains between Van Horn and GNP.

Hi herodotus7, it's a really nice drive, and definitely better than the other way. I think all those mountains are on private land, but maybe they'd grant permission to climb them. They look awesome too.

Awesome video. Loved that you were up there by yourself. I've seen some crazy lines of people going up there. And on the same day seen literally no one else in the backcountry. You got some great early morning footage. And while I haven't been all the way up Guadalupe Peak in a few years, your video makes me want to go bad. I have my eye on that 4 peak route also. I'll try it next time I'm out there. Glad you got a great trip in before the new baby is here.
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cameron, that was my third time being up there alone. It helps to start early. I was actually going to do the 4 peaks in April (when I did Picacho peak and Pt 6395 at Big Bend). It would have been tougher on three hours of sleep and the drive there, but I made the decision to go to Big Bend when I realized I had forgotten my GPS watch. If I'm going to do the 4 peaks, I want to track it now that I have the watch. But if I make it back, it will hopefully be over the course of a few days, and that way I can be more rested before I do it. I have another idea in mind that I may try if I can get three days there.

@@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer man thats insane! I plan on going in October for my bday and have seen numerous videos of like 6-9 hour turn around times, guess it just depends on how many breaks people take

Yes, and if it is crowded it is just going to take longer. Just waiting for people coming up as you come down takes time. I did it with my dad and brother and we took probably 4-5 hours. Have fun when you go! It is an awesome place!

Where do you live? I live in Corpus Christi, Texas and we love going to Big Bend and hopefully will be going to Guadalupe next fall break. The drive is a PAIN though!
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, I live in Pflugerville, just outside of Austin. It's about a 7 hour drive to get to Big Bend and 7.5 to the Guadalupe Mts. for me. Yes, it is a long drive, and you probably have a few hours longer from Corpus Christi. I really have enjoyed my trips to both parks.
@herodotus76 жыл бұрын
If it is relatively crowded, be prepared to hike in and camp at a campsite or outside the park grounds on Forest Service land or just sleep at the state rest area up the road.
@novicehiker68976 жыл бұрын
Do you know how easy it is to get a campsite on the Guadalupe peak trail?
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
As long as it's not a crowded time, it shouldn't be too hard. You just get a camping permit at the visitor's center first. You can't reserve them however, you have to be there, so it could fill up depending on how many people want to camp up there.

@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer5 жыл бұрын
Hi Davor, I made it up in 1:13. I think I've seen a time around 55 minutes, but I'm not sure if that's the record, or if anyone has really kept track of it. I hope you have fun out there!

How did you get in there before 8 am?
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
Hi Davor, the parking lot and trailhead is open all the time at Pine Canyon. You can start anytime you want to. It's only McKittrick Canyon that is gated, but they really should leave that open too.
@dd240sx6 жыл бұрын
Zachary Teich Thanks. I didn't know that.
@ZacharyTeich-HikingTrainer6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, I'm glad to help. I also should say that maybe there would be some cases where you couldn't start anytime you wanted - like starting in the late evening and night hiking into the next day. I would think if you wanted to do that, and you signed in, then it would be ok, but I'm not sure about a situation like that. I've only ever started when it was an hour or less from sunrise. I got there one time at 10pm and just slept in my car until 5 or so. Another time I went to sleep in my car around 8pm, only to be awakened by a ranger, telling me I couldn't do that. He let me pay for an RV site though. The tent camping was full. But I think if you get there late enough and need to sleep in your car then it is ok. I just made the mistake of going to sleep too early. I should've driven away and then came back a few hours later.
