Hiking Half Dome Without a Permit | S1E29

Hiking half dome has been a goal of ours for a long time, but we never thought that it would really be possible until we started traveling.
We completed the hike in 10 and a half hours, which we thought was pretty awesome. Though our legs were screaming at us for a few days afterwards, it was well worth it. There is no need for a permit this time of year because the cables aren't technically up. But no worries, it's perfectly legal and we took extra safety precautions.

Awesome guys. I went there this year, but had a knee problem that kept me from hiking and you gotta get that permit with plenty of time ahead. I plan on going back next year to hike half dome. You guys rock.

I can laugh about the critters; they will STEAL what is in your bags/sack/packs; only takes a few seconds (mine got hit inside 2 seconds); after that I "marked my territory" around our camp (eating kimchee for 2 wks prior); watch for wildlife.

Thanks! This video is very hopeful! One question about the prussix. How does it work? I need a harness, looks like 2 caribeaners, a rope, and something connected to the cables?

To be completely honest, I would not try to do this without having some basic climbing knowledge already. I would just go in season with a permit if you're not confident in how the gear works. Or find someone who is, who can teach you in person. It's not really something that should be explained online when your life is at steak. Someone actually died the week after we were there from lack of knowledge and proper protection.

Campbase I was referring to the crowds on the mist trail, which wasn't super clear and we forgot to film anything on the way down because we were so tired. 😂 The actual dome was very quiet.
