I'm rewatching this because I have a pal in Russia and I wanted to show him the fossil park. I recommend going to Clear Lake too! I grew up there and it's beautiful. Right when you get to the parking lot, you can find fossils. You barely have to get out of your vehicle. Definitely bring extra shoes and socks that you don't care about because you will lose them 🤣

shoe fossils may be found here in the future.

I've lived in Rockford for about 8 years now. You should also paddle down the shell rock by Rockford. It's a beautiful small town and I'm so glad I moved here.

Thanks for the tip, just looked up that river and it looks amazing! I'll have to try to make it there next summer!

@@HikePaddleBike or you can start on the Winnebago (right behind the fossil park) and it connects with the Shell Rock. I don't paddle but I float those rivers. Best thing is, there is a small bar called "Twin Strike Emporium" in town. During the summer, he opens up earlier in the day and has a diy bloody mary station. If you tell him you're floating, he'll hook you up with a to go cup. Perfect weekend starter! Can't wait till Summer!

Thank you for the great info! I visited here in July and also enjoyed it very much. Was surprised to find such a place in Iowa. Spent a lot of time hiking thru the prairie, visiting the nature center and hunting for fossils. I encourage others to check it out!
