I hiked up there at camp in 93, you had to run down because you couldn't stop. As a kid it hurt my knees, then a 3 hour tramp back to camp. Just made it back before dark, we were strung out all along the track. Good ol days 😌

Is there any way to visit the volcano without being in a group ? I would like to visit at my own pace.

As this is on private Maori land you will have to go with a group as they are the only guides with a concession there.

you guys did the same tour as we did its really fun going down that big slope and the van get really bumpy on the way their if you went at the back your would be lifted of the your seat because of the holes in the ground

yes one of the people in our group decided to go really fast and fall over he got some scrapes and thats about all but i got down fine
