My Mom walked several sections of the trail, when she was in her '70's-she wanted to walk the whole trail, but her time here ran out-thanks, Cliff!

Many years ago all life and business was connected to the river and the people in this town all owed their livelyhood to it and lived along its shores. There was no.point building farther inland.

Very cool town! I limped into Duncannon back in 2017 and stayed at the church for 4 days while I recovered. The Doyle is a legendary AT hotel, stop in for a beer and burger next time...the trail is about the people that live in all these wonderful small towns just as much as it is the views. Thanks for the video!

I been across the 322 bridge hundred of times, the pass 70 years. The old bridge was a toll bridge . You stopped on the Clark Ferry side at a toll booth and payed 5 cants .

You forgot the Doyle Hotel! Iconic must-stay red brick hotel built by Adolphus Busch in 1770. All thruers stay there even though it is always hot by the time they reach it and there is no AC. Don't worry. I saw a thru-hiking blog from Roan Mountain, Tenn. to Damascus, Va. last night and they skipped Laurel Fork Falls! Alas.

Another noteworthy fact.....A few miles farther from where Cliff stopped is a shelter dedicated to Geoff Hood and Molly Larue, 2 young thru hikers that were innocently slain at that shelter in 1990....😥😥

Very interesting, the small town was a nice addition. Love the bridge views, definitely worth the traffic noises. Although with the missing blazes can't help but wonder how many people, sitting on their porches in the evening, have a conversation such as "Who's that? Oh no...there's another stray hiker wandering around, better get some water and biscuit for the poor thing. We need a human version of the ASPCA for all these strays. Hope this one has an ID, last one was so tired and hungry all he could do was babble. We're not putting up another cot in the garage until find out who he belongs to...and somebody better stop those kids from removing the blazes." That was one rocky trail in the beginning, almost need to be a mountain goat to walk it. Thankfully someone made the steps or there could be a lot of inexperienced people hauled out with injuries since that's a popular area.

About 10 years ago I played fiddle at the Duncannon Appalchian Trail anniversary festival. Pretty little park along the Trail with a small, old stone bridge over a creek. I have some of those Honey Stinger Waffles. Yummy.

I agree it's nicer to go on a walk when there aren't as many people. I usually bring my little dog. He's cute but doesn't like people to fawn over him. It aggravates his sense of purpose to be waylaid with baby talk and compliments about his wavy locks. Plus, everyone thinks he's a girl which must offend his dignity. He sees himself as a leader with a purpose as he dutifully leaves frequent reminders on the side of the trail to let other canines know "he came, saw and conquered". P.S. I dispose of the solid contributions!
