Hiking the rugged Mount Anne Circuit - a Southwest Tasmania classic

Join us on this incredible 3 day adventure as we explore the rugged terrain and breathtaking views of the Mount Anne circuit, featuring the tallest peak in the Southwest National Park of Tasmania. This challenging hike is not for the faint of heart, but the stunning beauty of the quartzite peaks, button grass moorlands and incredible alpine tarns make it all worth it.
With fantastic weather, and all 3 ables sumitted; Mount Anne, Mount Lot and Mount Sarah Jane, this really was an unforgettable experience.
The Mount Anne Circuit is a collection of peaks composed of white quartzite capped by red dolerite. This is a geological anomaly in the Southwest where quartzite topped ranges dominate. The unique geology and varied landscape make the Mount Anne Circuit a popular destination for the experienced bushwalker who wishes to conquer the wilds of the Southwest.

I did this pre bushfires in 1989. First day torrential rain so we couldn’t summit Mt Anne which was a shame, second day was absolutely perfect, hot and not a cloud in the sky. The traverse of lightning ridge and camp at the lakes with the sunset over lightning ridge one of my happiest memories ever on a walk. The last day thick fog and steady rain. The fire seems to have cleared the track somewhat and I don’t recall any stairs going up to mount elisa. Will definitely do it again.

Great video. I did this walk with the Canberra Bushwalking Club in December. Words can't describe it. The last pitch to Mt Anne was too much form me and the climb up to Mt Lot through the Notch and then back down to the Lonely Tarns was an epic day.

Good to see you had great weather on the Exposed areas, does make all the journey better when you can see the amazing views from the Summit. I did Mt Anne summit as a day trip and was in the clouds by the time I got there, but still did it. But keen to go back and do the circuit and get those views from the camp sites.

@@AaronGrayOutdoors I got some cloud break between Eliza and the Circuit junction, but whiteout on the summit climb. The part before you climb up from the East side was tricky, as I couldn't see the path and the markers were hard to spot. Had lunch at the top and waited and saw a small amount of WA. The descent was hairy, that exposed rock you need to get down on your gut and lower yourself backwards was getting sketchy. Some of those toppled boulders are the size of a school bus. I remember trying to find rock cans and seeing one section that dropped at least 15m down inside them. I'll PM some pics to your Instagram.

Thanks Adam. The temperatures during the day for the first two days were between 20-25c with the temperature plummeting for the last day being 10c. Still, fantastic weather for hiking without the QLD humidity. The UV's in Tasmania are super high however.
