Beautiful video! I’m thrilled to see this. It was 1970, I believe, that I hiked to the top with our church youth group. We did the 99 switchbacks by moonlight and arrived at the Windows at sunrise. When I saw the building it actually took me a second because I remember sitting with my back against the wall soaking up the warm morning sun and reveling in our accomplishment. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this gorgeous video. We had made two previous attempts to get to the top but the weather turned us around. Of course back then permits weren’t required. Thanks for the memories! ♥️

My pleasure! I’m so glad it got you great memories I know that feeling it hasn’t been that long for me but also it is my most favorite hike ever!! When I was on the switchbacks it was completely dark and when I took breaks I turned off my headlamp and enjoyed one of tho most spectacular starry nights ever!! Thank you for watching 🙏

Was anyone doing the Chute or was the snow level too low? Crazy to see the cables clear mid May. I was doing whitney every year for awhile. Crazy beautiful how well you captured exactly what it looks like like
@lopezexplora2 жыл бұрын
Most of us doing the 99 switchbacks , the chute I heard was getting slushy ( dangerous) Thank you watching, subscribe if you haven’t already 🥾🥾
Great video! I saw you had crampons for part of the 99 switchbacks. Were those a must have or could you have summited without them? Thanks.

Well done!! I'm taking the same adventure with my son August 9-10 2022. We're going to start at Whitney Portal and hike up and camp at Trail Camp. Early the next morning we'll hit the Summit! From there we will hike all the way back to Whitney Portal. I wanted to ask how much water did you bring/drink from Trail Camp to the Summit and did you feel any effects of AMS?
@lopezexplora2 жыл бұрын
You have a great plan, and having your kid with you will make it priceless. I’m happy for you, when I went there was plenty of water all along the trail so didn’t have to carry a lot because I kept refilling ( filter) my bottle until trail camp which is probably your last chance to get water before the switchbacks. From there I carry 3.5 litters. I never have issues with AMS , I’m guessing is because I’m slow and keep drinking water and having snacks all the time. Best of luck for you 🥾🥾

Super and Congratulations. I plan to summit all in one day end of June. I only got a day permit. How did you overcome altitude sickness? I might definitely have that issue. How was hiking the switchbacks? did you need ice axe?
@lopezexplora2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, no ice axe needed only micro spikes on the switchbacks, for AMS I take Dramamine but I had no issues with it, of course we are all different hope you summit it and have a great time! 🥾🥾

Suggest going up to Cottonwood Pass/ Horseshoe Meadow Campground and acclimate at least 2 days, its 10,000 feet. Think when you go, ice will be gone.

Yeah that was crazy, I get cold easily so I got an extra sleeping bag and clothes
@slag_3c5 ай бұрын
What sleeping bag temp do you recommend for trail camp at end of July?
@lopezexplora5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching, this place could turn to freezing temperatures overnight even during summer so be prepared, I got a 32 degree one because I get cold very easily. Best regards

Beautiful video. Congrats 🎉 In that trail condition at switchbacks- How long did it take you to summit from Trail Camp?

Great video! I have hiked Mt Whitney with family and friends twice (2005 & 2010). Both hikes were amazing, exhilarating, exhausting and epic! Ours were “the big one” hikes-up and down the mountain in one day. 18 hours on the trail from start to finish 😀🥵😩😁🥹💪🏻 Mt. Whitney an adventure! So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing your video. Also, to have a TRULY SAFE hike up Mt. Whitney, never hike it solo!😊

Not really, the creek crossings are easy, but is not a bad idea though, ( for July) Thank you for watching

If you don't want to get your shoes wet, bring a light-weight pair of sandals. Then you can comfortably walk through the creek bed, and keep your hiking shoes dry.
