Every now and then I dig around in KZbin for Oly XZ-1 videos and guess that's why YT decided to show me your channel today. Happy! :) I too have a very minimalist cam collection - Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic, Fuji X-T100 with Viltrox 85/1.8, and the XZ-1, which I bought on 12th Nov, 2011. Twelve years later it's still my everyday camera. Glad to have found your channel. Subscribing. :)

Nice review! Older cameras make you rethink your approach and make your brain work. One of my oldies is the Lumix LX7. About the same vintage as your Oly. Leica 24-90mm f1.4-2.3 with intelligent zoom to 180mm (in raw!). Throw in an aperture ring, aspect ratio switch, and close/macro focus switch in less than a 10 ounce package. If you can find a good used LX7, grab it! Keep on enjoying and sharing👍❣️🙂

Bolsa Chica Nature Reserve, always a great place for bird photography. I'm a big Olympus fan (many film and digital cameras). Don't have the XZ-1 but I have an Olympus SZ-31MR (16mp) which has a CMOS sense and all kinds of "Magic" filters like pinhole, reflection and more as well as Multi-Recording, which takes 2 photos in 1. It has a great grip. Fun camera when you want to play but takes great regular photos. I keep it in my car so I always have a camera backup (even though I always carry a camera with me, you never know when you need a backup -- it's happened more than once). You have a very nice presence on video and you speak clearly and at a nice pace.

Ah! Love that you’re familiar with that place. It’s one of my favorite spots😄 that’s so cool. It’s so great when you find those cameras that are fun to shoot and reliable in that way. And thank you so much, that’s means a lot. Thank you for watching 🙏🏾

@@veobeoh Amazing! I hope you enjoy it as well. It shoots jpg and raws, which is awesome. I personally do a bit of editing in post with the raw images. The jpgs it produces are still great though! So depends on your personal preference. (:

Got one a few months ago as my first camera. The lens is absolutely beautiful even though mine has fungus in it . And it doesn't have a grip and is nerve wrecking to hold with one hand .

Wow your first camera congrats! Yeah I feel grateful that the seller I bought mine from must’ve added the attachment that mine has. How are you liking it so far?

Thanks for sharing…I heard someone mentioning the Olympus XZ-1 and looking into it further. I like the colorful photos and results you showed in broad daylight, but this camera was released in 2011, so in 2023 there are 12 years of tech improvements. Why go with this camera over say a used Sony ZV-1? Its every bit as small, shoots 4K video, has really good burst shooting(24fps), and a large 1in. sensor which should beat the XZ-1 in low light performance. Further , you can transfer photos to your phone with Sony’s imaging edge app, and stabilize shakey hand held video footage in post using Sony’s Catalyst browse software. Does the XZ-1 have a certain indescribable magic that makes one look past all this?
@ArchiesLens10 ай бұрын
Hey! 👋🏾 I totally get your confusion on why I would pick this camera as my digital point and shoot. The magic for me and possibly those who have mentioned it is that it has a ccd sensor which gives it a bit of that film look without shooting film (and the price point is much lower). There’s a whole wave of folks shooting with “digicams” these cameras from the early 2000s for that nostalgic look versus more quality. I will say it is not great with low light but if you use the awesome pop up flash on it your good. @onemonthtwocameras has a pretty great video breaking down this camera as well. Thanks so much for watching!🌸

When my sister wanted to update her camera I picked this one out as a Xmas gift. A few of us had to go in on it because it cost ... $350, yeah. I don't think she used it very much because organizing images on a computer wasn't her thing, and also because by then she was already using her phone mostly. So last year I asked her for it. Bought an extra battery and charger for it, but need to remember to keep one installed for the clock! Lately I've been concentrating on my "large" cameras but intend to start using this for around town and whatnot. Archie, do you have particular settings or modes you like for this camera? Your examples here have great color.

thanks so much for watching! I'm so glad you're able to put the camera to good use! honestly I got my settings from @Onemonthtwocameras , she has her settings in the description of her video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaq1iqOcjbSbgaM
@thenexthobby9 ай бұрын
Thank you Archie, just read her settings last night. I stumbled on 2 other things elsewhere, in DP Review forums. Have not yet tried. Supposedly the underwater scenes will cause the lens to fully extend when the camera is next turned on, useful if you're doing a lot of portraiture wanting shallow DoF and the lens is frequently retracting? The other is AE lock, which this camera otherwise lacks directly. I may have the steps out of order here, but it was something like, achieve focus, press the Down button. This locks AF, you can let go of the shutter and the next time you half-press the shutter, it'll lock AE. If this thing truly sticks to low ISO in Auto, I may take it on faith and go with Program mode so that I have both Aperture and shutter adjustability at once. I briefly played with Program mode last night and it seemed to default to ƒf1.8 all the time.

Great video. :) Sorry if you already mentioned it, but are these photos straight out of the camera or did you edit them? I’m thinking of getting it, but I just wanna take some photos with it and not spend time afterwards with editing.
@ArchiesLens Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you so much. No problem I’m happy to answer. This camera takes jpgs and raws. I do edit the raw images a bit, but they still look great straight out of camera! And the jpgs are nice as well.
